This actually happens quite often, I'll never understand it. The people who are against animals being used in scientific research have a tendency to go out and kill family pets of scientists and pharmaceutical company employees, I guess they think they're making a point other than "Killing animals is OK if you're doing it in protest of killing animals"

2006-09-29 12:53:57 PM
They aren't killing them, they are "setting them free."

Hey...Silvara has given me an idea. I'll start killing people to protest murder!

You could bomb abortion clinics to protest murder.

Not a new idea dj_bigbird, it's been done already ;)

I've got an idea too... I'm going to protest high gas prices by bying a gas-guzzler!

I don't think I'm being too presumptuous in saying that your dog would rather be exploited than DIAF.

Do as I say, not as I do.

It was obviously Bill O'Reilly, or some nut who watches him, trying to give progressive groups a bad name.

The police should look to see if the fire was started by a loofah or falafel doused in accelerant.

Iraq? Capital punishment?

I'm so confused. I don't know which way to threadjack this.

I never understood the ones who attach laboratories that use animals in drug development or cancer research. I guarantee you if they got a disease that was cured by that same drug they'd use it.

Maybe ARF (animal rights freaks) will head to Cape Cod next. To drag a few whales up on the beach so they can nail signs to them about not clubbing seals....

Grace Slick: "Killing for peace is like f...ing for chastity." Uberanimalrightists are very similar to uberislamofasists.

Some whackjob vandalized the local Reptile Rescue here a few weeks ago--stabbed and beat the animals to death, tore up everything.

What kind of dumb fark would do something like that? Oh, it's New Mexico--never mind.

It wasn't in protest...

some watched snakes on a m.f'in plane and became afraid. Thus, the melted serpant.

Insurance fire.

Mark my words: In the coming years, hundreds of insurance scam fires will be covered by "ELF" and "PETA" graffiti. It has probably already happened...like maybe in this case.

Toasted kittens and puppies cannot be exploited. Mission accomplished.

/now I'm all hungry for bacon for some reason

That doesn't make the ELF any less of a buttbag.

Actually, nothing has been proved yet. My guess it was someone trying to send investigators down the wrong path, but its a pretty lame attempt.

People who torture/maim should be themselves tortured and maimed.

/In public, please.

God, how sad. Those poor animals. For some reason, attacks on animals and children upset me more than attacks on adults...this is just absolutely horrifying.

And the primitive bloodthirsty side of me wants to find those responsible, lock them in a plastic tank, and then burn the building down around it.

Feeling less exploited, motherfarkers?

A man on the fringes of society commits an act most of us consider apalling. How ironic.

total setup job by the owner, i think.

2006-09-29 04:09:09 PM
i used to live a couple blocks away from this pet store.

the place was a tinderbox, with wood chips and shavings used for guinea pig bedding strewn everywhere and cardboard boxes lining the walls. and it was extremely, extremely dirty inside.

i remember thinking that the place had to be a front for the mafia or something, because i couldn't imagine anyone setting foot in the place and actually purchasing an animal from there.

also, from the farking article:
``This case is peculiar, because there is no evidence any animals were freed, which is certainly contradictory to that message," Cambridge Fire Captain Gerry Mahoney said. ``It's cause for alarm, because usually animal rights groups attempt to set the animals free."

somehow i don't think this was an animal rights protest. i get the feeling that the spraypainted message was there just to throw investigators off the track...

"Progressive groups"? Couldn't you have just said, "left wing nut-job groups"?

These are the animal rights equivalent of the wackos who think abortion is murder, and therefore, try to kill abortion doctors.

Idiots. They make anyone who is pro-animal rights look like an ass; I can't stand when people who ostensibly share the same values as I do decide to mainfest them in the most farked up ways possible.

How do you kill an animal, to prove you're against animal exploitation? How do you kill an animal in the first place? Assholes.

2006-09-29 04:10:56 PM
i hope people don't really associate these freaks with those of us working to change how animals are treated.

humane treatment doesn't necessarily lead to animals having "rights" but it sure as hell shouldn't lead to violence.

hug a puppy tonight... i'm going to try and pet a pussy.

Insurance fire.

An obvious, yet astute, observation.

cause we are sure "animal rights freaks" did this.
I tend to agree with char_boy actually.

2006-09-29 04:15:12 PM
Poorly written article.

What it left out is the part where one of the investigating officers said that they believe the spraypaint about animal exploitation was a red herring left by the arsonist, and that the fire had nothing to do with animal rights/liberation.

2006-09-29 04:15:35 PM
RTFA, folks. I'm not so convinced the animal rights group had anything to do with this.

Also, this totally looks like an insurance scam. If they eventually get enough evidence to prove it, I hope that somebody really does light the responsible party up in flames!
