That's gonna be a transition... it makes me wonder how greed can surface at that level, when you already have so much... enough greed to take you from a millionaire (billionaire?) to a prison cell.

2006-09-26 11:04:42 AM
*sob*

His family has already suffered so!

Can't we show some compassion?

/hope he gets shivved

I feel really bad for Mr. Ebbers. I met him once at a charity basketball game for underpriveledged kids. He was a really warm hearted man who loved children and came across as the "fatherly" type.

This is a huge injustice for both him, his family, and the many lives this wonderful man touched throughout his career.

/sad day

2006-09-26 11:36:27 AM
"Ebbers was ordered to arrive at a federal prison on 26 September but the location has not been revealed."

Yeah, it would create a huge shiatstorm if people knew that he was spending his time at a minimum security country club instead of the supermax they fantasize about him being in.

2006-09-26 11:37:26 AM
Jesus, give the guy a farkin' break. He's 65 years old. Yeah, society will be sooo much better off holding this poor guy in prison until he's 90 years old. He's SIXTY-FIVE freakin' years old... just let him live out the rest of his life with his family, not behind bars.

2006-09-26 11:40:39 AM
Who says prison can't be about punishment for punishments sake, DrParadise?

FTA:
When the firm filed for bankruptcy protection, some 20,000 employees lost their jobs and shareholders lost about $180bn.

yeah, its a real tear jerker. hope he dies in a fire.

Either some folks are trollin' or they've got post-Enron outrage fatigue. This guy is responsible for the biggest bankruptcy in US history.

Woldcomm was headquartered in NoVA. I know some folks that lost their jobs over this (From TFA - 20,000 total). He broke the law and should serve his sentence.

Good thinking there, hoss. While his employees wallow in unemployment lines, no retirement benefits, no insu, etc, he gets to stay home and be punished watching 70" HD-TV sipping pina coladas served from a 20 year old russian maid's tits.

Then maybe decide to take a "swim' in his olympic size pool for 5 minutes before having his cigar and brandy.

You sir, suck! DIAF

You can't knock a man for the universal need to acquire as much wealth and power as humanely possible while stepping on the backs, throats and faces of those underneath you. This man is a testament to Capitalism at its finest hour.

I hope he enjoys luxurious accomodations at Club Fed.

2006-09-26 11:43:43 AM
WarpZone thank you, I had two friends lose their jobs because of him.....no sympathy for the man here

What's wrong with: "If you steal over a billion dollars you get the death penalty."

ha you had me going for a second there, but you blew your wad too early.

2006-09-26 11:50:07 AM
Seriously, this guy has probably ruined more lives and caused more misery than any ten drug dealers currently in prison.

Society may benefit if this rare prison sentence serves as a deterrent to corporate fraud.

DrParadise: Jesus, give the guy a farkin' break. He's 65 years old.

You go tell that to people who had a sizeable chunk of their pension funds invested in MCI and are now stuck taste-testing cat foods because that's all they'll be afford to eat when they reach 65...

"You can't knock a man for the universal need to acquire as much wealth and power as humanely possible while stepping on the backs, throats and faces of those underneath you. This man is a testament to Capitalism at its finest hour."

humanly =/ humanely

and therein lies the rub.

I hope Bernie gets a big one right up the ass.

2006-09-26 12:18:57 PM
"When the firm filed for bankruptcy protection, some 20,000 employees lost their jobs and shareholders lost about $180bn."

And he was the direct cause. Anyone calling for leniency for this man is an idiot. He probably stole more money than the entire population of San Quentin. I hope he lives the entire sentence - this piece of shiat is too good to die. In a country where we put young men in jail for life for a trumped up third strike for stealing smokes or whatever, this is indeed justice.

The troll-fu is strong in this one.

/Ebbers can die in a prison fire for all I care.

2006-09-26 12:25:24 PM
"Ebbers was ordered to arrive at a federal prison on 26 September but the location has not been revealed.

The two closest prisons to Mr Ebbers' home are the Yazoo City Federal in Mississippi and the Oakdale Correctional Complex in Louisiana. "

I only know about prison from watching "OZ". I don't know if the fictional facility is state or federal. What are the chances that he's in a "Club Fed" type place with no fences, etc.? (These I've seen on 60 minutes type shows)

Will he really be in a place that looks like Oz? If so, would he be in isolation for his own safety?

2006-09-26 12:29:54 PM
Another vote for Bernie dying in a fire.

20K people lost jobs & pensions, etc. at the end of Worldcom directly. The fallout then hit Verizon, who at the whispered request of the government absorbed the remnants of MCI & fired a ton more Verizon employees.

God I HATE this man, and I'm a capitalist pig myself. What he did isn't capitalism, its corruption & greed. There IS a difference.

Again, Bernie Ebbers, DIE IN A FIRE, right after being butt raped. With a telephone pole.

2006-09-26 12:44:36 PM
Hey, a reason for a toast this evening.

2006-09-26 12:45:01 PM
Well said JohnBigBootay

2006-09-26 12:45:39 PM
That sucks. Now he's going to get free food and free medical care, on top of free cable TV, in a well air-conditioned environment. That is a lot better than a lot of his "ex-employees" are getting for their retirement.

/Sometimes, it "seems" better to be in prison than to be a free man in America.

Equivalence: is there ever a thread where it CAN'T be found?

Kid stealing gum EXACTLY EQUAL TO EBBERS!

EZ

Speaking from experience; I was laid off as a result of his dirty books, between me and the missus we also lost $50-$60K in stock options (was going to be a nice little retirement bonus), gone in less than a day. Screw him.

2006-09-26 12:53:40 PM
That headline is a weeny bit offensive, butt such is the price we pay for a giggle.

To all you folks that suggest the leniency is the way to go, you can all DIAF. As a society we have the right AND responsibility to defend ourselves. This is the way to do it.

2006-09-26 01:00:24 PM
Too bad his ass isn't already in jail.....His crime(s) make(s) capital punishment attractive, the bastid!

May he rot in hell (a Mississippi jail)!

Look at all the liberals rejoicing. Pfft.

2006-09-26 01:19:30 PM
I've had a lot of friends lose jobs because of this man and the corporate scandals, but I've gone back and forth as to whether him rotting in a prison cell is really making society safer or better. I mean, it's not like he's going to commit corporate fraud as the head of another large company.

Hopefully his fate will act as a deterrent to others, but the real solution to this kind of corruption is better corporate accounting and more accountability for corporate executives. As long as executives continue to fill board rooms with their cronies who provide neither checks nor balances, corporate corruption will continue.

Don't cry for him--soon he'll have a "heart attack" and join his pal Kenny Boy down in Argentina, at the Adolph S. Hitler Memorial Hideaway for Well-Connected Criminals.
