Not a town festival, just one sad old lady with too many skunks and a cult of personality. I've been to this before.

Apparently you've never heard of the Gay Cotton Picken Festival in Gay, Georgia.

Hey there puskunk!

I had a pet skunk when I was a teenager. My Sami lived to be about 12 years old. Got her when she was probably just a week or so old. We found the litter of little skunklings wandering around on the road early one evening. Far as we could figure, something must have happened to the mother. We took the one in and a friend who already had a pet skunk and knew a few people who also wanted one took the rest. She was such a cutie.

Come on, we've waited long enough for the Ohio tag. Cleveland even has a sister city in Florida where old Clevelanders go to die. We inspire Florida and they have a tag.

I've always wanted a pet skunk but W.Va. has a wierd pet law. You can't keep a "wild" animal as a pet if the species is native to W.Va. Aparently I'm allowed to have that pet Capybara I've also always wanted though.

Skunks are lovely - they are such good-natured little beasties. I used to do wildlife rescue, and I bottle-raised eight baby skunks in my one bedroom apartment one year. They were so cute - personality plus! I didn't play with them or pet them, though, as they were meant to go back into the wild once they were old enough. I'm proud to say that seven of the eight were successfully released into the wild. The 8th, for some strange reason, imprinted strongly on me (they were all treated EXACTLY the same, and none of the others did), so he ended up in Wildlife on Wheels as a "pet" who got to visit all the local gradeschools.

Sadly, San Diego County has a law on the books that any skunk trapped by the County is killed and tested for rabies. I once cornered the County Animal Control people and asked them point-blank: "Has any skunk in SD County EVER tested positive?" They had to admit that, No, there had never been a case of rabies in a skunk in SD County, but they seemed to see no need whatsoever to change that stupid-ass law.... farking gov't flunkies.

Sauerkraut and rasberry jam makes a wonderful sweet and sour sauce for 'em. Throw it all in a roaster on medium 'till done.

While our rescue is partial to raccoons and groundhogs we don't shy away from skunks. As said before... They are adorable, very timid and not prone to "injurious biting" but they will nip at you... as all wildlife does (Humans have thin skin, some of the thinnest in the animal kingdom, and no one seems to remember that)

Only problem with skunks is that well... the babies and younger juveniles "leak" before they get the hand of how to handle the scent thing.

You always know when a fellow rescuer has a baby skunk when you walk in the door.

/Grew up on a farm.. never minded the smell of skunks, probably because our dogs were always getting sprayed.

When I was ten a litter of skunks moved into an alcove close to our house, without their mom. So once I started playing with them my mom gave up and we had to find a home for the seven of them. But we got to keep them while she called people and scheduled appointments. It was great, no one ever got sprayed, I was told two of the adopters never had theirs descented.

I had a pet skunk for eight years, Peewee. Bought him at a pet store. Best damned pet I ever had. I can't get a replacement, as pet skunks are illegal in my state.

My god.

I live in Ohio, and I think fark desperately needs an "Ohio" tag. We're at least as amusing as Florida.
