If ever an article deserved to have a couple of "Easter Eggs" inserted into it, it's this one.

Not surprising. Stamp collecting is a fairly common hobby. You figure they'd find their way on to the intarwebs eventually.

You ever wonder what the people 5,000-10,000 years from now -- looking back on the charred remains of our civilization and the various hard-drives they manage to scrap together -- will think of us?

"Holy crap, these people must've spent all their time collecting stamps while watching porn"

Ya know, there are fishkeeping fora - monsterfiskeepers.com rocks - that would be interested in this. Heck, I'm interested in it, but it is in a PITA format. Why point to all those separate pages instead of just using anchors and having one long doc?

Not only the nerdiness of it all, but sixth on the list, "Beluga," isn't even a fish!

If you're gonna exhaustively document this, better document it right, I always say...

2006-09-24 08:39:39 PM
uhh no there are beluga sturgeons

You'd be surprised at how many times I've actually had to use this exact page.

Some people find this stuff interesting. I can't really understand why people are so fascinated with guns.

If you think that is too far, just try typing in your highscool name.

The words are:
Wikipedia is a huge silo of useless pop trivia, and perhaps the world's largest, most distributed bureaucracy - mostly manned by a casual staff of teenagers and the unemployed.

actually, they have been on for quite sometime. Ebay was orignally used for stamp collectors. my dad, who has the worlds largets collection of mushroom stamps (not joking, hes a mycologist) has been trading stamps on ebay for a long while now. His username is his first name (very common) followed by a p. thats all no numbers. These days you cant get Namep with out at least a 30 behind it.

The girls I go out with usually have a large collection of mushroom stamps... on their foreheads.

I'm going to nominate that for deletion. If ever there was something that was unencyclopedic, that would be it.

lol..those crazy filatelle, philotele, philotil, stamp collectors love their lists.

I lol'd @ gaz. Its funny because its true.

I can lose hours at wikipedia. I start by looking up one idea or topic than get led astray by hyperlinked words in the articles. before you know it I am 7 or 8 "degrees" away and totally forgot what I was looking for in the first place

I used to do that with real enclclopedias also.

/I shoulda tried it with the dictionary

And, for the most part, they'd be right.

There's also this list, which lists people who are known for their hair. You'd be surprised at how pointless some of the stuff on Wikipedia is.

shigelojoe: My mind is still reeling from the ginormous article on Knuckles the Echidna SomethingAwful linked to a few days ago.

Well, if this is their chosen area of expertise, we might as well let them have it. I'll stick with obscure novelty 45s :)

didn't sound that funny- but man, I was crying it was so funny looking at that list and thinking about how it got there...

elpepe55: How much of a nerd do you have to be to "lose your cool" in an editing war on wikipedia?

Less so than a flame war on Fark. What's posted on popular articles on Wikipedia supposedly means something, and is seen by tens of thousands of users.

Fark flame wars are pretty much about nothing important, since they're only individual commentary.

I still prefer the List of Films by Gory Death Scene.

Yeah, search it yerself, I'm too tired for linking.

At least the elephant population in Africa is still on the increase. I read on Wiki once that it has tripled in the last six months.

Considering there's actually an article on "w00t", I really can't say I'm surprised...

I like Wikipedia, but it IS a cesspool of useless crap written by nerds with egos bigger than their lives.

Kar98: "Wikipedia is a huge silo of useless pop trivia, and perhaps the world's largest, most distributed bureaucracy - mostly manned by a casual staff of teenagers and the unemployed."

Alas, this is entirely true.
