(Some Scared Of Dolls Guy)   As if childhood weren't creepy enough already, now you can have a doll made to look exactly like your child. Didn't they learn from Chucky?   (mytwinn.com) divider line 59

There's a VC Andrews book on this theme. A kid gets molested by the guy making the doll for her. NICE.

JonBenet's parents should just have done this, instead of doing on a real kid.

That's apparently the look thet were trying for.
Vacant, plastic, toylike.

2006-09-23 06:43:42 PM
They've had these in various brands like forever.

I had a nightmare once that my parents had my brother's and my heads stuffed and mounted, like you would stuff and mount a deer head. We looked exactly as we looked in a picture that was taken when we were 2 (me) and 4 (him). I guess that the way the dream worked, as you outgrew old body parts, you got new ones... I don't know. It was a dream. All I know is I was me and yet I was looking at my own stuffed 2 year old head mounted a plauque (sp). I touched its cheek and it LOOKED at me ... and then I woke up, utterly and completely freaked out.

That said... I really wish I could have a baby doll that looks like my son looks now and I am tempted ... very tempted. You've been able to get a doll that looks like you via American Girls for quite some time but you only tell them hair color, skin color, eye color... it looks like with this, you actually send in a picture and they actually give you a doll that actually resembles your kid even more.

I don't know.

I'm tempted. My son is adorable. ;-) But then I think about the horrible dream I had and then I think of him in 20 years or so thinking his mother is certifiably nuts... I should probably pass. :-(

2006-09-23 06:46:30 PM
My aunt ordered something from them a year ago. The doll came with two left arms. The Head was also on backwards and looked nothing like my niece. When we contacted people we heard the company had went out of business. Beware..

2006-09-23 06:46:45 PM
American Doll is the most common; catalogs come for my daughter regularly. There is even an AD hotel in Los Angeles with doll beds next to the kids bed.
Just another way to seperate me from my money, nothing more.

I had a "MyBuddy" doll and I always though the kid in the Child's Play movies was a total wuss.

Just joking around guys.. Seriously.

2006-09-23 07:11:31 PM
bobbooty That second picture (cleft lip & pallet) is what I looked like when I was born. 100's of surgeries and many years later you can barely tell except for a scar above my lip and a slightly crooked nose (which I actually attribute to breaking it a few times). And yes my case was that severe.

There's a thing in Japan called Dollfie that costs about a thousand dollars to make/buy and Japanese kids carry them everywhere and write blogs for them.

I want one.

Yes, every child should have their own voodoo doll.

For $7,000 you can order a lifelike rubber fark doll, styled to look like a 12-year-old girl.

For $150, you can buy a real live 12-year-old girl on the streets of Bombay, Calcutta or Rangoon.

Once you buy her she is yours to keep: you may rape her, beat her, put her out to prostitution, or even kill her; no one cares.

My head assplode.

I hate to say this, but JonBenet did, in fact, have a My Twinn doll. Google JonBenet "My Twinn" for a bunch of references.

El Robbo

No, every parent should have a voodoo doll.
"Don't make me put the doll's hand in acid again, Timmy"

As a person with an actualy real twin, I find this offensive and stupid. I congratulate the people who make money off being offensive and stupid.

Enending enmity for the people who buy these.

It's trying to freeze a moment in time, with something a little more durable than videotape and a little more 3D than a photograph. They say "seize the day," but I say "seize the process," the ever-changing, ever-growing personalities we brought into the world when we decided to have children. If we just want to play with babies, or associate exclusively with one developmental stage, we can volunteer at a church nursery or something.

As Richard Bach said, "What a caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly." (Or was it Heinlein?)

The MyTwinn dolls won't mean as much to kids as they would mean to adults--a kid's capacity to take things for granted is virtually infinite. Kids could make do with blocks and dirt and be happy as can be. They don't need expensive toys, and shouldn't get them very often at all.

What they mean to adults is unhealthy at best.

Some of you go beyond "unhealthy" into "sick," but that's not really what I'm talking about here.

2006-09-23 08:00:32 PM
I think it would be neat if RealDoll and MyTwinn were made by the same company.

2006-09-23 08:04:05 PM
You think the dolls are creepy... I was in Chicago a few years ago and ducked into the American Girl store to use the facilities. One floor was a cafeteria, where girls WAY too old to play with dolls (8-9-10) were lunching with their dolls wearing their matching outfits. Way too creepy.

I once had a friend who was realy into her lookalike doll. She used to dress like it and take it everywhere. One time I went to her house and while she was practicing piano, the doll was seated at its own tiny little piano with its hands on the keys. I've really never been so freaked out in my life.
anyway...these things are scary.

I can see grieving parents having one made of a dearly departed child. And then the mom, in her fragile mental state, gradually forgets that the doll is just a doll. And the dad, fearing his wife's obsession with the toy, locks it in a trunk to hide it. Then mommy finds doll, comforts her, and together they kill daddy and put him in the trunk, to see how he likes it.

That's what I see coming out of all of this.

My fiancee's mom had one made for her like 25 years ago. Really, the only similarities, though, are the eye color and hair color.

falkensmaze

That movie sucked soooo bad. And I like crappy horror most of the time. I just deny it's existance.
