Hmmmm, aren't the new holo-TVs coming out work kinda like a holoprojector? If so, I'll wait until I can get one of those. Then I can hook my R2 unit to my Atari whenever I wanna play holopong.

I don't mind telling you guys that but building a full-scale R2 replica would kick 8 specific kinds of ass.

Oh my God, you're kidding right? Obi Wan lied his ass off about Luke's dad, you think he's going to admit that he knows R2? Anyway, a Jedi only owns his lightsaber so he was telling the truth. Next you'll be complaining that Vader didn't buy 3PO a beer when he saw him.

You're wrong. He could totally have forgotten about the droid. It's not like it played a significant role at a crucial point in Obi-Wan's life.

And even if he didn't forget, he pretended to in order to protect Luke for the entire 30 minutes until he told Luke that Darth Vader was his father... those 30 minutes made all the difference, you see!

/fark you Lucas

"I've placed information vital to the survival of the rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope."

Seconded. Besides, if anything, R2 was mostly with Anakin.

Getting parts is the hardest point. The aluminum casing is just half the battle- then you have to go into Toshi Station to pick up some power converters.

I bought the $100 voice activated one that actually moved and can hold a can of soda/beer a year or two back. Its a pretty sweet as conversation piece and just fun to have around. Makes beeps and bleeps and reacts to different Star Wars characters names.

Um, did you even see the films?

I did, but it's been a while. In fact, the first time I saw the films was:

Star Wars : 12 June 1977
Empire : 21 May 1980 (yeah, freakin opening day!!!)
Jedi : some time in 1983

After re-reading my comment, I realize that what I posted was very, very stupid. It should have read "killed his father", not "was his father".

In any case, I stand by my implied assertion that "I can't seem to remember owning a droid" to be one of the most glaring plot holes in the series.

Well I already explained why it isn't but whatever. As for your other point, Obi Wan didn't admit that Vader was Luke's father until Jedi, years later. But again, whatever.

Ahem...

Very clearly, as shown in "Revenge of The Sith", Obi-Wan knew R2-D2. They didn't get along very well. No loose wire jokes? Anyone. Being that Obi-Wan is just about the coolest guy in the universe, I doubt he'd forget his best friend's droid, especially when his best friend's son is lying on the ground next to said droid.

Having said that, I'll go with the idea that he was trying to protect Luke from the truth by feigning ignorance of R2-D2 and I also agree with the idea that he never OWNED a droid. But why would R2-D2 be trepident about coming out of the cave when he first sees Obi-Wan? Don't say because he's older and the droid couldn't recognize him - it's a robot - they have sensors and tricoders and stuff. It's a hole - stop apologizing for Lucas' screw-ups.

I can't believe I just wrote all that out. I might not be able to count the last girl I slept with.

Call me a nerd if you must, but the astromech design has stood the test of time. It still looks as cool today as it did 30 years ago, and you can't say that about many robot designs, real world or fictional.

I believe I corrected myself on that point. If not, please forgive me, as I'm drunk.

I saw this and was thinking one of my closest friend's dad built his own R2-D2, so I thought "What the hell?" and checked to see if he was on the registry. Yup, he is. That's pretty sweet.

He was afraid that the sand people were still around. And no one's apologizing. You can either patently decide that something is a plot hole or think about it for half a second. If you listen to the commentaries, Lucas knows every frame of his own films.

I'd provide links but my net-fu lacks. Look around for military EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) units and you'll notice they look strikingly similar to Johnny 5. Lots of those units are mounted with SAWs (machine guns), shotguns, explosive devices, and various other weapons platforms.

Then take a look at FCS (future combat systems) on google and youtube if you want. You'll see that we're advancing to a point where those of us in the shiat will have a robot or droid back-up.

I'm actually working on my own Death Star.

If Star Wars tech were real, wouldn't this be the ultimate pork-barrel-boon-doggle political project. Imagine Haliburton's budget with this baby.

Obi-Wan never owned R2-D2, Anakin never owned it either. If anything R2-D2 was the property of Naboo.

I take what Obi-Wan said about never owning a droid as truth without revealing details, much like when he told Luke "Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father".

I'd be happy with one of those r2d2 coolers that were prevalent everywhere at the time.

Now on Ebay for 1400, sniff. (Pops)
