Fark 'em.

I think they're racist for using 'Colored People' in their name. What color are they? Fuschia?

2006-09-22 11:53:19 PM
Yup, let the policital attacks against the only competent candidate commence.

2006-09-22 11:53:52 PM
OKay, waving the White Flag!!! Who the hell was this Kinky Friedman? This cracker, saltene, offeres her appologies for whatever whoever said to whomever. Can we move on now?

2006-09-22 11:55:28 PM
I agree. I wonder if they also asked for an apology from Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Arsenio, Bernie Mac, or ANY of the Wayans brothers. I mean calling each other THAT name does not seem to be helping the "advancement" much does it?

Kinky should laugh, extend his middle finger and tell the NAACP to feck off. He'd walk away with the Governors race.

I heard a song today where the singer says the same word 50 times. Where is the outrage?

2006-09-23 12:02:15 AM
Does the NAACP really think that Rick Perry is a better candidate for them?

2006-09-23 12:02:25 AM
For some reason, every time I see the name Kinky Friedman I think of the guy on an episode of "Married With Children" who used to be a teen idol in the '50's and whose gimick was to hand out combs to people

/this post brought to you by a random firing synapse

it is my sincere hope that someone does a book in the style of germond/whitcover for the 2006 texas gubanatorial election. i've heard the stakes are lower than a craps game, yet the coverage is practically national. i would read that book with gusto.

Yeah Im on Kinky's campaign mailing list and I got this in an email yesterday:

Kinky Friedman Campaign Statement

Friends and neighbors,

While Rick Perry was cheerleading in college and Chris Bell was being potty trained, Kinky Friedman was picketing segregated restaurants in Austin to integrate them. Now that Kinky's in second place and a serious threat to the two-party system, Perry and Bell have paid political assassins to dig back as far as 30 years through fictional books, comedy shows and song lyrics, desperately seeking to paint Kinky as a racist.

Republicans and Democrats have created an entire industry -- called Opposition Research -- whose sole purpose is to tarnish and destroy people's reputations. This is why regular citizens don't run for office. If you do, and you start to threaten the system as Kinky has, you're going to be attacked.

Kinky has overcome all of the obstacles placed before him -- getting on the ballot, raising millions of dollars, building the largest grassroots network Texas has ever seen, and breaking 20% in the polls months ago. He's a serious threat to the establishment, and when you threaten the political establishment, they use the money generated from their formidable fundraising machines to pay for "dirty tricks" tactics to manipulate the press.

It's a slimy industry that exists for the sole purpose of destroying people and -- like cockroaches -- scurries for the shadows whenever a light is shined on it.

The latest political assassination attempt takes completely out of context a controversial word that Kinky was using in a 1980 stand-up performance to lampoon racists. Playing a character on stage, Kinky was exposing bigotry through comedy and satire.

It's pathetic that the major-party candidates have sunk to this -- trying to paint Kinky as a racist when, in fact, he was poking fun at racists. Shame on the press for being complicit. Rather than confront our opponents on their tactics and get the full story, they are allowing industries like opposition research to exist and operate outside the understanding of most voters.

-The Kinky Friedman Campaign for Governor

While it definetly stunned me a bit, I'm still thinking he's just completely un PC. And that he wouldn't hesitate to use startling words when making a point or even a joke. He's a jew and he doesn't hold back from making statements or using words that may be considered offensive by that group of peoples...

The only thing that has me rethinking rather im going to vote for him or not is that from reading around I suspect he's much more conservative then he first appeared to be.

2006-09-23 12:11:03 AM
The NAACP is crazy. Some black people use the N-word in every other sentence and they have no complaint. But a white comedian who uttered it in 1980 is unforgivable. They ought to spend more time cleaning up the language of those they claim to represent and less time nit-picking the free speech of those not included in their special little group.

2006-09-23 12:12:59 AM
I'm sorry, but this article is completely useless without a link to what exactly he said.

And I'm not talking quotes. If they have all of the audio of his "comedy bit", they should give it up so I can decide for myself if it's racism or not.

No no don't get me wrong. I love how comedians can take their everyday lives and experiences and use them to make us smile. I think the "reparations" sketch Chapelle did was genius. Im not too fond of Mencia though because I think he is faking the funk. Anyone who changes his name to sound more like his "people" just doesnt do it for me.

Miss Surreal

Nice post, thanks for that. I'm in a different state so the details I get are limited, but I have always liked this guy from afar.

I have always liked people who don't cave in to bullsh*t PR pressure. I have used the "N word" countless times in my life, many times while in the presence of my black friends while obviously mocking the retards who blame all of their problems on minorities. And all of them laughed.

Honestly, no one cares about words unless they are the most type-A retards on the globe. All that matters is sentiment. If someone makes a "joke" about any group, and you get the sense that, on some level, they seriously regard that group as inferior, that's where the problem is.

I really don't get that from Kinky. I honestly hope his ass sweeps that election. He's a smart guy. The minute I get the whiff he's been bought by some group, I'll ditch my support from afar. But as for now, I like him very much and I hope he wins and burns the sh*t out of local politicians.

Some black people are n__________. Some white people are honkies, white trash, redneck, crackers.

Frankly, whenever you take a large group, theres bound to be a couple idiots. The only question is whether you defend them from the name calling, or acknowledge that given their behavior, the name calling is probably the least of what they deserve.

2006-09-23 12:55:49 AM
the only problem with their clever plan? this is Texas, the only thing the NAACP is gonna do by bringing this up is help him get elected. Really. The Libs are already gonna vote for kinky and the rest of Texas will be thinking he's not such a bad guy after all. Sad but pretty much true.

2006-09-23 12:57:35 AM
Oh, give it a rest already, PC thugs.

2006-09-23 01:03:30 AM
In other news, the NAACP is bored.

2006-09-23 01:05:29 AM
You have to expect some foul play from the guy once in a while. The guy's name is Kinky, for God's sake.

2006-09-23 01:16:53 AM
Kinky Friedman said the N word back in the 80's? Unforgivable! We demand an apology!

Dave Chappelle won't be repeatedly saying the N word anymore because he quit Comedy Central? Unforgivable! We demand an apology!

firefly212: honkies, white trash, redneck, crackers

Ok, I'm a honkie redneck. Crackers and white trash are subsets.

When Chevy Chase apologizes for that legendary skit he did with Richard Pryor, then Kinky should also.

Word Relations:
Chevy Chase- Porch Monkey
Richard Pryor- Honkey
Chevy Chase- n----r
Richard Pryor- DEAD Honkey

RIP Richard... you are missed.

So the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is demanding an apology for something said 26 years ago? Doesn't "advancement" typically imply moving forward? While we're at it, let's apologize for the whole 3/5ths thing again.

2006-09-23 02:05:07 AM
Kinky's band was called the Texas Jewboys.

Besides, as a Jew, doesn't that automatically make him half-black? I mean, white people hate us, too!

/Really hopes Kinky wins.
//My aunt has some of his old tapes.
///Interesting fact: Ghetto is a Yiddush word, originating from the Jewish-segregated communities of medieval Europe
////In no way bullshiatting.

My two cents on the N-Bomb.

I believe that the concept of African Americans using the word attractive and successful African-American to refer to themselves was a great act of rebellion. They took a hateful word that caused their ancestors hang their heads and made it their own. In common referrence used in hip-hop, generally attractive and successful African-American is taken to mean brother. There are of course still negative usages... but from what I can tell, essentially the tranformation is complete.

If this is true, black people everywhere have to accept something... attractive and successful African-American no longer means what it used to. And if you want to take that term in defiance, power to you.. but you have to accept the fact, that it would be racist to say it's a word only you can use.

Nubian means golden people or people of gold, something like that. Those kooky egyptians and their gold fetish.

FTA: Then a television interview from a year ago resurfaced in which Friedman was asked what to do about sexual predators. He said: "Throw them in prison and throw away the key and make them listen to a Negro talking to himself."

Hmmm. Sounds a bit racist to me. In point of fact, I don't know anyone who uses the word "Negro" who isn't a little racist.

ericjohnson0 That was one of the funniest skits I have ever seen.

See... this is where I would be either the best. canidate. ever. or the worst. canidate. ever. I would just lay out all my dirty laundry during a debate.

2006-09-23 07:27:05 AM
Why don't people find the term 'African-Amercian' racist? Since when was it ok to classify all dark-skinned people as both African, and American? Why couldn't they be Aboriginal-Brits? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't appreciate being called African Americans in the least. All people need to get down off their high horse.

2006-09-23 08:21:59 AM
Dear NAACP,
1980, 1980? Something said in 1980? Is that the best you can do to find something to be offended about?
Sincerely,
Some guy from the 21st century.
