Why can't they bow out gracefully? They already have more money than God.

Mick's face in that picture looks like a 8 month-old avocado I found in the bottom of my fridge.

What a horribly written article.

What's the difference between Mick Jagger and a Scotsman?

Mick says, "Hey, you, get off of my cloud"

and the Scotsman says "Hey, MacLeod, get offa my ewe!"

Because, anal brazil men, unlike many other bands that still tour, they can still play.

I first heard that one in 4th grade (age 9). Glad to see quality jokes shared from across the pond.

Dunno, maybe they're not doing it for the money?
Maybe they're doing it because they still can, and still dig it?

Geez, I'm old as fark and even I'm sick of Mick and the boys.

They probably enjoy it. Not everyone (read: us working schmoes) hates their job.

It's nice to know that 12 years later, tee-shirts are still $45 bucks at a stones show.

And I'm REALLY not being facetious; if that price held with inflation, tee shirts at a stones show now would be $64.15.

I don't get the [SAD] tag...

It's sad that the "greatest rock band" ever is still out touring at AARP ages. Same with the Who, etc. Take your money and go home, leave us with the memory of Mick circa 1971.

MizzouGuy: leave us with the memory of Mick circa 1971.

I was 3. I have no memory of 1971.

The Stones still have a solid fanbase and a solid line-up. So shut the fark up youngsters. Funny, when I was the age of most Farkers here I wanted to see Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and Jerry Lee Lewis. They were "old" but they could still kick ass. Respect the music and the elders of it. You may experience something real.

26 years old. Stones = best live show I've ever seen.

Plus, for this leg of the tour, they're going for a lot of older, lesser-played stuff I'd REALLY love to hear. Like Sway, You Got The Silver, Little T&A... Damn, time to put on my vinyl copy of Hot Rocks.

I was at last nights show. Musically it was pretty damn good and Mick was like a madman dancing and preening all over the stage. Opening with "Paint It Black" was pretty sweet...the only problem with the concert being the douchebag behind us that would have been better off buying a live DVD and sitting on his couch. Our section was the only one not standing and dancing and having fun, it was terrible. Never before have I wanted to throw an entire beer on somebody but thankfully it was a TEN DOLLAR BEER.

The Stones definitely still have it.
Just don't sit in section 240 of Gillette Stadium, its the black hole of fun.

I'll never be your beast of burden. I'm really old, my back is hurtin'.

HowlingFrog Dunno, maybe they're not doing it for the money?

Do you know how much it costs for Rolling Stones tickets these days? If they were still touring for the fans, they wouldn't charge hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars for seats.

SwiftFox Because, anal brazil men, unlike many other bands that still tour, they can still play.

Who cares? Rock stars should have an expiration date. There's a reason all the dead ones are worshipped.

I clicked thinking Billy Ocean was dead. Then thought, "The brother cant even get on the main page? Damn." I see someone else in here thought that.

2006-09-21 11:36:08 AM
Thanks, now I have that farking Billy Ocean song stuck in my head.

/get offa my lawn....and into my car

And I say if the Stones can still rock then they should keep playing until they all die and it's just Zombie Keef playing with a tribute band.

Oh, man, I know exactly what you're talking about. Usually it's an amazing atmosphere at a Stones show, because you've got basically everyone from 15-year-olds to 65-year olds rocking out to the same music, which pretty much NEVER happens anywhere else. But when I saw them at SkyDome in Toronto on the Bridges to Babylon tour, it was like I was sitting in the Angry Loser section. I actually had someone shoot me a dirty look for going "Whoo Hooo HOOO hoo hoo HOO" during "Miss You", like I was being too loud. Meanwhile the rest of the stadium was going nuts... Seriously, if you're going to spend $65 on a ticket, why SIT?

I would give my right leg to see Iggy and the Stooges in 1973.

anal brazil menWho cares? Rock stars should have an expiration date. There's a reason all the dead ones are worshipped.

There are plenty of dead rock stars that no one gives a crap about. And I never got this whole "Too Old" thing. In basically everything else, the older you get, the more experience you have, the more time you have to master what you're doing. The Stones perform with more energy than any band of twentysomethings I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. They're not up there with walkers, even though people have been beating that joke into the ground since 1985.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that...

You know, I keep hearing that Mick still has it, but I find that hard to believe. He was starting to look a little worn out at the end of the Super Bowl halftime set, and that couldn't have lasted more than 15 minutes.

Are we sure that he isn't lip synching?

2006-09-21 12:15:59 PM
Hmmm....forgot about Get Off My Cloud.

I thought something bad had happened to Billy Ocean.

That would truly be sad.

No one else is somewhat saddened by the fact that a talentless hack like Kanye West is opening for the Stones?

2006-09-21 01:37:58 PM
I'm going to see the Stones here in Wichita in a couple weeks. One of my older friends, who's seen them like 20 times, is practically cumming down his pantleg in anticipation...

As for why they keep touring, well...why not? People still want to see them, and they still enjoy touring. No one's forcing any of you to buy a ticket, so why complain? Go back to blogging about how Modest Mouse has sold out or something.

Oh, and get off MY lawn, too. Whippersnappers.

2006-09-21 01:39:28 PM
The Stones also just announced a Nov. 22nd date here in Honolulu at Aloha Stadium.

Add me to the Billy Ocean clan

2006-09-21 05:24:28 PM
Hell, I still find it hilarious when John Stamos on an episode of Full House remarks that he went to the Stones Farewell Tour "Was it the sixth or seventh? Anyway..."

That was back in '89 or so!

2006-09-21 07:09:19 PM
That may be the best headline evar.

Yeah that was totally disappointing. I didn't even RTFA because I was hoping for a glorious Billy Ocean thread. After seeing your comment, I am not even going to bother.

I usta see the Stooges almost every weekend in the late 60s. They were terrible. We used to wait in the parking lot for their set to end.
