very quickly becoming a nation of cowards

They really should change these zero-tolerance policies. Instead of suspending these kids, they need to let a couple hard, pipe-hittin' administrators go to work on them with a blow torch and a pair of pliers. I know *I'd* be more inclined to work in education if that was part of the job.

2006-09-20 03:00:13 PM
I bet the principal's face looks like an ass so they should force it to be covered outside of a restroom.

2006-09-20 03:00:17 PM
I can't blame the 6 year-old for bringing a toy gun to school - real ones are so expensive nowadays...

2006-09-20 03:00:23 PM
Remember when that kid got suspended for pointing a chicken finger and saying "bang"?

America: nation of retards.

2006-09-20 03:00:23 PM
The incident will stay on Tawann's permanent school record.

Oh, no! Not the permanent record! Have they no compassion?

When I was in 7th grade, a guy in my class got expelled for an entire year because he left a Boy Scout knife in his bag from a weekend trip.

Now, I'm no fan of the Boy Scouts, as despite all the good they do, they also do a remarkably good job of preaching intolerance and bigotry to children, which is perhaps the single most despicable thing anyone or anything can ever do to anyone.

That said. Steve was a good kid - in the same "early honor" classes I was (like a precursor to high school honor level classes), soft spoken, and a good friend. He'd never harm a fly. Hell, the "knife" that fell out of his backpack could barely cut butter. But zero tolerance said one year, and he was gone.

This is where zero tolerance doesn't work. I grant that there are TONS of places in which it does. But here, it's just plain wrong.

/Sorry for the non-Fark-like answer
//He had to move away to continue going to public school
///I was so pissed

this thing is a plastic bulb with a finger hole.

How about those wax guns with sugar water in them! that's a SUSPENSION!

2006-09-20 03:00:54 PM
Its cause he's black. He's lucky all they did was suspend him.

2006-09-20 03:01:08 PM
I had a .22 rifle in my locker in high school; I only brought it in so I could fix it up with the tools backstage, being on stage crew for 4 years.

The only thing I shot was the air conditioner for the weight room, phark those meatheads for having a/c while the rest of us didn't.

2006-09-20 03:01:41 PM
I could understand if he had one of those guns that look real ... but come on! This is ridiculous .....

One reason I wont be sending my kid to public edumication ....

2006-09-20 03:01:42 PM
And you're telling me the French are pussies?

2006-09-20 03:02:12 PM
It's not zero tollerance (which would be reasonable if the policy really reflected zero tollerance).

It's negative tollerance.

2006-09-20 03:02:48 PM
Think the fact the kid was black had anything to do with it?

/not justifyin'
//just wonderin'

2006-09-20 03:03:43 PM
Here's something funny.

Throughout the 80s in High School, I carried a small buck knife in my pocket because it was a handy tool to have. Most of my friends did, and a day didn't go by when you didn't need to unscrew a Philips head screw or cut some string or somesuch.

Can't do that now, since we've become a nation of cowards, pussies and blathering dunderheads.

oh man, i love how your excuse was that you only shot one thing. almost like, "what's the big deal? i only fired it once?"

Oh no, he will never get into Harvard now!!

This is about the most asinine thing I've read in a couple days. I'm really worried about what I'm going to do when my kid gets to school. I have a zero tolerance policy of my own-- zero tolerance for this kind of bureaucratic bullshiat. How can we fight this crap?

On the last day of middle school, we had essentially a big party day off. Everyone got to hang around outside all afternoon and was ENCOURAGED to bring water guns and bathing suits. One of the science teachers got all dressed up in goggles and had a couple of the biggest super soakers that were available at the time (ones with big water tank backpacks). I can't even imagine what would happen to him now.

/no shootings at my school
//squirt guns don't kill people
///...when you pry them from my wet, sunburned hands...

2006-09-20 03:04:46 PM
We are rasing a generation of weenies because of stupid crap like this.

I came for the stupid and boy was I not disappointed. Nice work on the thread there. Phew.

Solution to political correctness:

Round up all the democrats and execute them in an orderly fasion.

American prosperity ensues.

2006-09-20 03:05:22 PM
Only logical conclusion a child can draw:

If the punishment for an orange water pistol is the same as for a real weapon, I guess you are better off packing heat!

Is this principal a shil for the NRA or something?

See! Waterpistols are as bad as real weapons!

2006-09-20 03:05:36 PM
Hey, that kid could've gotten a hold of sulfuric acid or liquid hot magma, and sprayed it in some kids eyes. So this is more then justified.

2006-09-20 03:05:48 PM
It's cause he's black. In LA they would have beaten him down.

2006-09-20 03:05:56 PM
I think I've found the solution:

1)Send kids to school in hyperbaric bubbles. That way, no colds or other contagions take root in our places of learning
2)All of the playground equipment made of rubber. No recess because kids may get scrapes and bruises.
3)No lunch period because kids are going to get fat.
4)No books because paper cuts spread blood and blood can have AIDS.
5)No teachers because teachers can be child molesters.
6)No brick buildings because bricks are hard and can hurt. Kids learn in tents.
7)Police monitoring because we know all kids are mass murderers who don't know the difference between a squirt gun and a real gun. This, of course, is society's fault and has no bearing on parental responsibility.

So basically, elementary school should be a bunch of kids in a tent for 6 hours under police guard. No need to thank me, I know the depths of my genius.

I filled one with gasoline once and shot flames. It worked for a while until the gas gummed up the plastic innards.

2006-09-20 03:06:08 PM
Pro Zack: next, if you come in with a picture of a gun, you are suspended.

That's already happened.

2006-09-20 03:06:18 PM
"We regret that this happened. My feeling is that by not giving any exceptions, this young man will not bring a toy gun to school again," Budesheim said.

I think schools are missing the point. The problem is that this CHILD is NOT a young man. What happened to dealing with these things on a case by case basis and keeping it quiet. I mean its not like he painted it black and held up another student for lunch money. Now for nothing this minority student is out of school for 10 days and then they're going to wonder why he can't complete his lessons properly...

2006-09-20 03:06:33 PM
oh ps: it was a catholic high school too.

Being raised with 12 years of catholic education, i am proudly athiest. The shiat they try to force into your mind is absolute rubbish.

I have no doubts tho, that it was a better education than the public school system of Philadelphia could have offered. Where they graduate the kids to the next grade simply because they don't want to deal with them any more.

2006-09-20 03:06:37 PM
I wish one day one of these parents would sue the schoolboard over this kind of stupidity. I can understand harsh punishments and zero tolerance policies for REAL weapons, but this just a 50 cent waterpistol for christ's sake!!! Can't tell if it is a real gun or not, spend about 5 seconds inspecting it. If you still can't tell, shoot yourself in the head with it!!! God willing, it will be real and loaded.

2006-09-20 03:07:38 PM
In what world is that little thing a weapon?

In what definition of the word 'weapon' does that toy fall into?

We need to overhaul the 'zero tolerance' policy and come up with common sense. If you're going to punish the boy, punish him for bringing a toy to school. Don't suspend him for 10 days for bringing a weapon to school.

As for it being on his permanent record, I thought those were fake. Does anyone know if that's going ot effect him as an adult?

2006-09-20 03:07:45 PM
TFA: You're going to suspend my son for 10 days for this? He cannot harm a soul with this

I have a bottle of bleach that would disagree with your assessment, ma'am.

Lucky for him it wasn't a penis shaped water gun or he'd have to register as a sex offender for life.

how do you tell a 6yr old that some people think that his toy is a real weapon despite it being bright orange and squirting water?

I'm no expert but small, orange, dripping water and vaguely gun shaped is the text book definition of a shot gun.

What you really need is a reasonable person standard, would a reasonable person think this is a gun. If not, move on. As kids we used to pick up sticks an pretend they were guns so is the child who picks up a stick and thinks its a wand using his imagination while the child who says, "bang bang" a thug?

2006-09-20 03:09:32 PM
Wow -- is there a cheesier looking "squirt gun" on the planet? what a piece of shiat.

Farking idiot school admins.

Saw a 7yo girl suspended for bringing a steak knife to school on opening day. She found it in the side pocket of her canvas lunch bag -- Mom had used it over the summer -- and called a teacher over as soon as she realized it was there. Lesson learned: Keep your f**king mouth shut.

Saw a 7yo boy expelled -- PERMANENTLY -- for drawing a crayon picture of a "spaceman" shooting the (2) class bullies with a "ray gun." Lesson learned: Fark if I know.

Saw boys suspended for "finger guns" on the playground.

This poor little farker learned something too: Next time bring a REAL gun and cap that nosy little biatch that narked him out.

Now that kid knows how Iraq feels.

Well, it LOOKED like a WMD program to us. Zero tolerance!!!!! Shock and awe baby!

2006-09-20 03:09:55 PM
You know if this kids mom was a decent parent, and I use the term Decent loosely, she would have known her lil Gangsta had the Piece in his backpack and stopped him from taking it to School.

2006-09-20 03:10:12 PM
So if there's a zero tolerance policy over a something that you can pretend can hurt someone, should the kids who hold their fingers in front of their eye and "squish" someone's head be suspended to? Because they're pretend hurting someone.

If this was my kid, I'd take him to putt putt and theme parks and ice cream for the 10 days. Also, get his class materials for the 10 days and teach him myself, just so he won't fall behind in class.

2006-09-20 03:10:12 PM
The kid should have been Tazered©

2006-09-20 03:10:14 PM
Sure the teacher has discretion: Take the toy away, ignore it, give it back at the end of the day, problem solved. Eventually zero tolerance policies will reach a high enough volume that they will be addressed in the courts, and I believe that this will a little bit much even for them.

2006-09-20 03:10:52 PM
This is so stupid...why couldn't the teacher just nab it from him and keep it till the end of the school year? It's very obviously not a real weapon, I mean...it's orange, and made of plastic, and filled with water. Stupid.

On Halloween one year we were able to wear our costumes to school. I was a pirate! I brought my plastic sword and everything. If I were in school nowadays, I guess that would be automatic 10 day suspension. Are the kids even allowed to wear their costumes to school anymore? Are they still allowed to have Valentine's Day parties? What happened to being a kid?!?!

I remember the thread that laughed about the English forbidding pupils to bring butterknives with their lunch, and now they're banning more obscure butter applicators!

/future western moratorium on dairy products?
