Sometimes zero tolerance is a good policy. For example, I have zero tolerance for these little bastards on my lawn. However, a squirt gun wielding 6 year old should be dealt with like when I was in grade school. The teacher takes the squirt gun and keeps it until the last day of school.

DNRTFA but headline says it all. Thanks subby for summing it up so nicely. FTW!

/I sure hope that 6 year old learned his lesson. Little farking bastards.
//That's the farking problem. Kids get into trouble for nothing so it makes it easier to justify doing something wrong because hell either way they are going to get into trouble. Might as well make it worth it.

Idiot Group One:

OMG zero tolerance policies are TEH STUPID and these damn farking lazy school administrators are suspending our angel kids for playing shoot-em-up with chicken tenders and when I was a kid, by gum, we brought rifles to school and twirled them around our head and we even shot each other now and then and didn't nobody care so why you gotta be so strict you MORANS let kids be kids.

Idiot Group Two:

OMG there was a shooting at the school and these damn farking lazy school administrators were letting kids play pretend guns every day and didja hear that there was one kid who brought a TOY GUN to school I mean when I was a kid they had some respect and kids who stepped outta line were smacked with steel rulers and sometimes thrown into the incinerator goshdagnabit and this is our society going to hell in a handbasket.

(ok, they're really the same group)

how do you tell a 6yr old that some people think that his toy is a real weapon despite it being bright orange and squirting water?
no really, how would you explain this to your kid?

i remember my mother allowing me to dress up like a cowboy, 6-shooters and all, when i was a kid. she even let me go to the store like that.. no harm.

i am not sure where to direct my anger about this zero-tolerance deal...sigh.

great generalization Nocket Pinja.
/Farkasm

The problem with Zero Tolerance is it leaves no room for discretion. The responsibility of using common sense is compromised. Teachers are given a position of authority for a reason. The teacher is unable to use their best judgment on how to handle a situation instead the worst is assumed and the book is thrown at the "offender." In this case a 6 year old kid with a water gun.

I have no logical solution to offer on how to keep the guns out of schools. If anything maybe schools should start offering some type of curriculum for social behavior. Since, obviously the parents are not teaching their kids how to act.

My friend brought a gun to school and I knew he had it.
Needless to say he got caught and expelled. Later on after his expulsion he was caught trespassing on school property and this time was found with a knife on him. This kid could have been a star athlete but instead he chose the path of crime and dirt. Became a daddy at the age of 19 went to jail at the age of 20 and I lost contact with him because I had better things to do.

I guess you don't remember OBE and its quick death at the hands of conservative critics, then.

Very clever with the switching letters on a screen name, though. You must be one smart dood.

No, I don't remember OBE, looks like it was tried in 92 or something. I was only 12 and still was not smart enough to generalize everybody into 2 categories. 1 catergory. Apparently OBE should have been part of your curriculum.

2006-09-20 02:04:52 PM
Sorry bout that Pocket Ninja

Don't worry. You'll get those smarts coming some day. Until then, try looking up that big "sarcasm" word you used in your earlier post. It might help you make a little more sense of this big, scary place called Fark.

2006-09-20 02:13:26 PM
Thanks but you were more patronizing than sarcastic. Big, scary FARK is something I know nothing of. Please give me guidance Nocket Pinja dood. You sarcasm would be appreciated if you were at least funny.

2006-09-20 02:15:32 PM
I dropped something.

Your sarcasm...

/Sorry for the double up

I already told you I can't compete with your funnay skills. Switching letters of a screen name is just too much. You are teh king.

Who's hypersensitive? I'm complimenting your staggering wit and intellect, and you're apologizing. Stop being so humble.

You might want to see someone about that lisp, though. People might start to make assumptions.

Follow the Tao, and you realize that there are no categories--so one category for everything does actually work, oddly enough.

Eh, you've got a dozen or so to spare. All I've had is a single one that had six comments in the Tech ghetto.

2006-09-20 02:30:47 PM
Unless the little bastard filled it with pee, it's not a weapon.

Yeah, I can't stand getting a greenlight and having it relegated to one of those slum pages. It's such a buzzkill.

Pocket Ninja: Yeah, I can't stand getting a greenlight and having it relegated to one of those slum pages. It's such a buzzkill.

To be honest, it's not like I submit links every day or anything like that.

Still kind of annoying, though, that something I thought was spiffy was only spiffy enough for six comments....

2006-09-20 02:36:17 PM
I submitted an article and now its completely gone. Comments and all. What happened to it? Pocket Ninja you are well versed in farking do they kill a red light article from TF? http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=2293394.

The comments are available or anything what did they do with it?

2006-09-20 02:39:47 PM
If your thread got nuked, you probably shouldn't be bringing it up in here.

fark preview before posting GD.

2006-09-20 02:44:59 PM
I was just curious as to what happened. I didn't know that they "nuked" them. I wasn't trying to bring it up to start trouble I was seriously curious about why it disappeared. Other than the fact the headline was uber-offensive. Oh well.

/ I just don't under the rationale behind suspending a 6 year old. What does it accomplish?

2006-09-20 02:52:32 PM
tonkin are you happy it hit FARK. Drinks on you?

So, what is the principal's job now? If he can't make any decisions why not just give the job to anyone who can read the rule book?
/stupid

Chiggity Chza: I just don't under the rationale behind suspending a 6 year old. What does it accomplish?

It teaches the parents early that the state owns their child.

2006-09-20 02:54:11 PM
According to Kansas City, Mo., School District policy, the squirt gun is a simulated weapon and a class IV, which is the most serious school offense.

I'm glad bringing a simulated weapon to school is the most serious school offense...

That day is coming. When local governments figure out that all they need is a rule book and a lawyer there will be no more principals.

It helps instill in children a healthy distrust for authority.

This kid should be executed. That will teach him a lesson.

2006-09-20 02:56:16 PM

See there is your problem. Bringing a real gun is the same offense as bringing a toy. Now you look like an idiot who can't tell the difference.

2006-09-20 02:56:20 PM
nilsy07: I'm glad bringing a simulated weapon to school is the most serious school offense...

i think they meant it is in the highest catagory of offenses. i'm sure bringing an actual weapon would be in that catagory

2006-09-20 02:56:33 PM
Tsk tsk tsk. I bet the kid is just overcompensating for having a small penis.

2006-09-20 02:56:34 PM
Might as well suspend him now, he will be a guest of the state in 12 years anyways.

/was he just reppin his block?
//riding dirty?
///n!@@#%$

2006-09-20 02:56:52 PM
eeh, kid shouldnt have brought a water gun in the first place; no reason to have it there. kid gets what they deserve.

/didnt rtfa

2006-09-20 02:57:11 PM
that isn't even a squirt gun. good grief.

next, if you come in with a picture of a gun, you are suspended.

2006-09-20 02:57:35 PM
Zero tolerance is great. If homeowners have a right to rape and torture burglars who try to take $5 from somebody's purse, then school administrators certainly should be able to bring the boot down on kids who bring squirt guns to school.

2006-09-20 02:57:51 PM
Calling a plasic gun a weapon because it looks vaguely like a weapon makes as much sense as calling a rifle an "assault weapon" because it looks scarier than a normal rifle.

2006-09-20 02:58:10 PM
The zero tolerance thing bothers me to a point but being a former school teacher I also understand for keeping broad discipline. If Johnny does something and gets detention then Susie does the same thing angets a warning. What bothers me is that this is going to follow this kid through is whol academic career over a squirt gun. Fine give him the 10 days but dont make it a permanent mark on his record

2006-09-20 02:59:10 PM
Friend of mine is a third grade teacher. She told me they have a zero tolerance policy for kids pointing their index finger and saying bang while playing cops and robbers. Seriously, they suspended a kid for it. All she could say to the asshatministrators was "Damn good thing it didn't go off when he was cleaning it!"
/stoopid people in charge of teachers means stoopid kids

2006-09-20 02:59:21 PM
Yay one more way to fark up the next generation of kids. I can't wait until they say no pencils, pens or pencil sharpners. You know? Kids will have to go back to writing in the sand using their fingers.
/Yay for fingers my GF likes fingers
//More than she likes slashes
