"I needed help, and I didn't know how to ask for help," he said. "And I guess, in my crazy way, that was my way of asking for help. Help with my drug problems, help with my sanity."

"Of course, if I'd gotten away with it, that would have been great too."

Why can't we just tax theft and make it decriminalized?

It's pretty popular.

speaking from my current mental state, i can completely understand this guy's actions.

...though he is a foolish, foolish man nonetheless

Innocent until proven guilty. Even if asshat makes stupid comments and does stupid things durin trial

At least here (in Finland) they are sill using old NTs - no much point of stealing.

Actually, if you're going to steal computers while on trial for stealing computers, it is probably a good idea to steal the courthouse computers.

I was completely dumbfounded as to what kind of person would do this until I read he was also convicted of drug possesion.

Drug addiction is a medical problem, not a criminal problem. How is this guy a dumbass? He admits straight up he knew hed be caught.

howdoibegin: How is this guy a dumbass?

I'm sure glad we don't put drug addicts in jail then.. since it's a medical problem.

Maybe he likes to have sex with computers.

The man can't help himself!

howdoibegin: Drug addiction is a medical problem, not a criminal problem

Sir, I think you'll find it was a criminal problem waaaay before it became a medical problem.

Sir, I think you'll find it *is* a criminal problem, and was waaaay before it became a medical problem.

A lot of courthouses here in the states have pretty modern PC's in them. True, there are some pretty freaking old DOS based machines out there but unless it's a tiny little courthouse in middle-of-nowhere West Virginia their machines probably aren't that terribly old. Now, as to how much you can do with those computers once you get them is another matter because most of them are tied into internal network or the company that put them in locked them down pretty tightly. Not only that but if you're stealing them to erase your records, well, good luck with that. Those records get backed up almost every night and even if you do steal them, short of doing some pretty extensive formatting if those drives are ever found the records will still be able to be recovered.
\network admin at a company who supplies the computers and recording systems to about half of the courthouses in the US and quite a few systems in other parts of the world as well

Good luck with trying to use those monitors -- they all have Solatire burned into them. Either that or some penis pump website.

Out Of Bounds Actually, if you're going to steal computers while on trial for stealing computers, it is probably a good idea to steal the courthouse computers.

You are probably right. The more obvious, the less likely to be a suspect I suppose. Too bad more and more people are catching on to that.

This is just funny though. I'm sure they had a laugh.

The only reason I can see for stealing courthouse computers when you're on trial for stealing is to make farkers argue over if this is a proper use of the irony tag.

He should ask the judge if he can be released when the computers he stole/tried to steal become valueless.

Somewhere there is some poor sap in prison for stealing a Pentium II.
