That's a pretty awkward reinterpretation of that phrase, but, hey, whatever!

Any Case alumni here? I'm WRC '92. Also a DU.

I'm a future Case alumnus, assuming I don't fail out in the next two years...

Good luck, Andromeda. I'm sure you'll do fine.

Seems funny that they had to point out that one of the arrestees was a native of Iran, like it makes a difference.

Police would not release any specifics about the arrests.

Then how does smitty know it goes up your nose?

Before working in Cleveland, Anvari was the dean of the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, from 1995 to 2001. He also taught finance there.

I was at case Fall '89-Fall '91. Lived on the other side of the fire door from you (BTP).

Do we have enough people to have a CASE FARK party? And where would we have it? Wackadoo's?

2006-09-19 07:11:42 PM
Go Case!

I love it when we end up on Fark.

LOL, their business school was my second choice for colleges.

2006-09-19 07:16:37 PM
What is Wackadoo's? Must be new (left Cleveland in 2000). For a fark party I'd go with the Grog Shop, but I'm partial to Coventry having lived there for years.

Is the Euclid Tavern still open? I think I remember hearing that they closed a while back. For many generations of Case students that was the spot for underage drinking.

2006-09-19 07:18:50 PM
Case law student here!

Glad to see the school in the news.

2006-09-19 07:19:52 PM
Thrag

Wackadoo's is the shiatty campus bar, along with the Spot. The Euc closed down a few years ago. I have no idea where Case students go to drink underage now, as I was able to get a fake.

The grogshop is at a new location now by Euclid Heights and Coventry. Coventry would be a nice place for a Fark party.

2006-09-19 07:21:54 PM
Current student, I'm all for a Wackadoo's party.

Lots of us have no method of transportation besides RTA, so we might want to keep that in mind.

The dean of the science and liberal arts department, now that would be weird. The dean of business? It's not like he's likely to be a million miles deep! Not like a real professor.

Charming_Man: The grogshop is at a new location now by Euclid Heights and Coventry. Coventry would be a nice place for a Fark party.

Last time I was there they were still working on the new space so I haven't seen it yet, but I hear it's awesome (compared to the old hole in the wall it can't be bad). I think my friend Marty still bartends there.

Before I moved to California during the boom I used to spend so much time in the wine cave (the place next to the new grog shop in the basement under the Inn on Coventry) I used to dream that it was my living room. The cave and the grog shop where my two favorite places in Cleveland.

Case Engineering '83. The faculty there should stick to making the drugs, not selling them.

Charming_Man: Wackadoo's is the shiatty campus bar, along with the Spot.

Is that just the new name of the Rough Rider Room, or is it in some new location? I'm surprised there are still on campus bars like the spot. When I was a student they were closing stuff like that down. It was the same year when all the frats had to comply with some insurance regulations saying we couldn't have kegs in the house or buy alcohol with fraternity funds and crap like that (didn't stop the traditional run to the border to by everclear for the Beta punch, but campus life did start to suck more overall).

2006-09-19 07:42:08 PM
Is the Barking Spider still open? That was one my favorite spots to drink on campus, especially during nice weather. Always had a good beer selection.

Even worse news for Case students and alumni:

In January, I saw NYU's men's basketball team defeate Case 78-49.

When two basketball powers like NYU and Case meet you would think it would have been a Fark posting, with the ubiquitous "Duke sucks" trailing.

CSE '01 (Taft), this makes perfect sense considering the amount of Trafficking going on in the dorms. Need something to get through the winters there.

//ahh the dark month of February

I'm finishing up a Ph.D at Case. Wackadoos is a cruel joke, but it's the Taj Mahal compared to the Barking Spider.

/The Winking Lizard on Coventry puts them all to shame, IMHO.

Troy McClure: Case law student here!

I take it Professor Junger is still there? I worked a student job at the law school as a computer tech. I had to reclaim the computer he had been using for years to upgrade him and give the old machine to some staff member. Before giving the computer to a new person I had to clean out the keyboard. It was the most horrifying experience of my life. That is one sloppy man.

2006-09-19 07:51:45 PM
Bosola: Wackadoos is a cruel joke, but it's the Taj Mahal compared to the Barking Spider.

Well, the Spider is just a tiny place. The best thing about it is sitting outside on a nice day drinking pitchers.

2006-09-19 07:54:09 PM
I'd be up for a party at the lizard. When should we do it? Can someone submit a thread? How about mid October?

Also, Thrag, is Beta punch anything like our Deke punch? I'm sure you guys took the recipe with you when you broke off from us many years back. ;)

2006-09-19 07:56:47 PM
I know it's a Fark headline, but oooooooohh do I hate that phrase.

2006-09-19 08:00:57 PM
Do not diss the Spider. Outdoor drinking was great, and they regularly had some decent enough music in there as well, we used to throw darts there on occassion. The Euc wing night was always amusing -- still remember someone sitting on a chair and having one of the legs go through the floor there. We were regulars at Panini's in Coventry its first few years open, the 2-9pm $2 pints (of any of the beers, so good stuff) happy hour was fantastic.

I was also there for the last glorious year of the Greenhouse, where "College ID night" meant "$5 to drink underage". Yeah, the drinks were overpriced, but when you were 18 you couldn't really complain. Hell, I remember one person getting her younger sister, sophomore in high school, into the place. Club I closed the year before I got there, a Mexican restaurant with cheap strong margaritas eventually showed up there.

WRU '78, chemistry.

Sounds like he didn't really learn a lot with that Op Re PhD. Should be able to set up a buy better than that.

Can't believe the Spot is still there.

CO '99. Went there when the flats were actually cool. Went back for a wedding 3 years ago when the law school was being shot up.

The wedding was ON campus WHEN the shooting was happening.

Case Dropout (95-97) / Employee (97-98)

When I saw "former dean" and "Case," I silently prayed they would be talking about Bob Savinell. Business school? Pshaw. Case was about the OChem Prof insisting that we come to class the same day the storm of '96 knocked a farking gargoyle off a building!

To answer many of the above CWRU questions:

1.Euclid Tavern - R.I.P.

2.The Barking Spider is still open and thriving.

3.The Grog Shop moved to the site of the Coventry Arabica after it closed.

4.I THINK the Wine Cave is still there.

5.So is the Coventry Inn.

6.About four stores along the Grog Shop's old space, including the Corkscrew, are gone. {:SNIFF!!:}

7.Wackadoo's is a sports bar where Charlie's Place used to be in Thwing.

8.The Spot is still around, but it's been revamped in the past few years.

9.I assume the Rough Rider Room still exists, but I haven't been there in ages.

10.Prof. Junger retired a while ago but he pops by the law library once in a blue moon.

11.It was the Peter B. Lewis Building, not the law school, that the nutcase shot up a few years ago (although we DID go into lock-down as we're right next to PBL).

12.The creepy guy who shot up PBL used to come into the law library A LOT. Never thought him the violent type, but he was a bit creepy (you do NOT want to know what a middle-aged man wearing short shorts two sizes too small looks like - EEEEEHHH!!!).

13.The Mather Arch? You mean that white stone structure between the church and Thwing? Yup, still there.

14. Stop by the law library and say "hi" to me some evening!
