I wonder which one of the prisons on that list is run by the CIA?

2006-09-16 11:16:22 PM
Aww gee. Only 3 of our "molly-coddling" United States prisons made the top 10 list of the worst in the world?

Don't these people know that when you go to a US prison you get great medical attention, good free food, college degrees, and watch premium cable TV all day?

Oh well, I guess we can take heart in the fact that we have a higher percentage of our population incarcerated than any other country in the world!!!

WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WE'RE NUMBER ONE!

At San Quentin was a better album anyway, and San Quentin made the list.

The editors/contributors/readers of askmen.com should be put in prison for being stupid.

Abu Ghraib should be listed here, shouldn't it?

a·bey·ance (ə-bā'əns) pronunciation
n.
1. The condition of being temporarily set aside; suspension: held the plan in abeyance.
2. Law. A condition of undetermined ownership, as of an estate that has not yet been assigned.

Who says you can't learn anything here?

CURRENT prisons, guys. No concentration camps, no Alcatraz, none of that.

Knowing that, I had a feeling Florence was getting on there.

ADX: Okay people. This is the perfect place for this kind of flamewar. *sets up the gas cans and Zippo lighters*

I submit to you: ADX vs. Capital Punishment.

Purpose for both: disposal of the most violent, most incorrectable members of society.

ADX: Lock em up in a concrete closet. Pay guards to watch them, serve them food, but basically, they exist only to suck oxygen for years. Once sent here, you have NO chance of ever getting out. If something comes down the pipe 20 years from now that exonerates you...have you seen what a person who has been in sensory deprivation for 20 years looks like? The phrase "raving madman" comes to mind. So now you exist to take up a cell in a looney bin.
CP: Strap, poke. Lock em up in a pine box. Same end effect, but much cheaper.

Administrative Maximum Unit Prison (ADX)
Colorado, U.S.

The worst part: There is almost complete and total lack of human interaction.

Is there something wrong with me if that sounds desirable, to me? Seriously, that actually sounds nice. No guards in your face all the time. No fights. No assrape. If I ever get sent to PMITAP I hope they send me to that prison, because it sounds like there would be no PMITA.

No Angola, not a real list. San Quentin has nothing on that hellhole.

Woooo J-town.

Not really.

He's talking about doing it without all the appeals, methinks...that's where the money gets eaten up, no?

The following is a list of the 10 most notorious jails on earth; they are the worst of the worst and the lowest of the low.

They're the bottom ten then, stupid...

2006-09-17 12:17:50 AM
Yes, exactly, Glass.

How many appeals do you get before you're thrown in ADX?

Turkish prisons certainly have a shady past, to say the least, and Diyarbakir is no exception. From incarcerating children for lifelong sentences to overcrowding to sewage-flooded hallways, the prison redefines fear and hatred.

That's actually a very good question, Ishidan. I come down on the Florence side. (Florence rolls off the tounge much better than ADX, dammit.) I am against killing on moral grounds, period. However, you can't very well allow the kind of guys who wind up in Florence back into society, and you can't allow them any means of killing any of their new blockmates. So therefore, people who shank people become the loneliest people.

Some of the conditions described in those prisons would certainly constitute cruel and unusual punishment. That is prohibited by the Constitution.

Why do you hate America???

miamivine: Abu Ghraib should be listed here, shouldn't it?

Oh yeah, because panties on the head and naked pyramids are so much worse than this:

Tadmor military prison Syria, Asia: In a word -- torture. The methods used are medieval in nature: Some inmates were killed by the sharp end of an ax and cut into parts, others were roped and dragged to death and still others were brutally beaten by metal pipes. These torture victims consisted of both the guilty and the innocent, and were often randomly selected.

Or more to the point, have you ever seen what the people likely to be relegated to ADX Florence act like? Do they resemble in any way, shape, or form something human to you?

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SARCASM.

Because the popular conception is that American prisons actually benefit society, instead of milk it.

russian prisons are pretty bad to from what i understand...

"n the SIZOs of larger population areas each prisoner is allocated less than 1 sq.m. of space, in some cells it is less than 0.5 sq.m. Prisoners have to sleep in turns. There is no place for all inmates to sit there. Conditions in SIZO cells are extremely harsh: lack of oxygen, dampness, stench. Many inmates have bloody ulcers and legs swollen from long standing, many are infected with scabies and other skin diseases. Their bodies are perspiring and nothing can dry due to the humidity. There is practically no light that enters through the heavily barred window. Two or three-tier beds are fastened to the walls. Any cell, be it for 10 or 100 inmates, has one sink and one toilet."

even if the prisoners aren't violent, they're pretty much gauranteed contraction of a life-shortening illness.

You take comfort in the fact that your freedom-loving democracy-spreading do-no-evil nation is only slightly better than the worst of the worst? Congrats... you're retarded.

I'm surprised Challapalca Prison in Peru didn't make the list. They keep prisoners at like 16,000 ft. and let them slowly die of mountain sickness.

Actually, yes. They may be bombers and shankers and traitors, but they are still human beings nonetheless. Death penalty, torture, not comfortable with that. Sensory deprivation, lack of human contact? Much more palatable. Basically, attacking the mind is okay, attacking the body is not.

The only "retard" here appears to be YOU. Assuming you'd read the article before leaping in like a moron, you'd have seen that where all the other prisions had things like government approved slaughters, the Author of the peice was whining about American prisions because we're "too ordered and controlled". Gee, cry me a river.

What, no Attica mentioned in this thread? It's none too far from my home, and I know a few guards. Sounds like hell on earth to me, and it's not the guards, or lack of anything, for that matter. It's the gangs that roam.
