Noooo I want to take the quiz! Come back link!

And I'm awesome at geography. If you couldn't pick out Tajikistan from Uzbekistan on a map stop clicking the link and let me have a go, since I'm actually good at this and could do with starting my day with a bask in my internet-confirmed sense of superiority!

2006-09-15 09:27:08 AM
Farked. :( I wanted to try.

this is kind of a coincidence, my friend was over at my place last night and i stumbled upon this map of the middle east and northern africa where you have to match country and name and jokingly said she should try it.

she didn't know which one was iraq, or iran, or pretty much any country beyond egypt and israel. as i exasperatedly pointed out that have been pictures of maps of iraq on tv for the past couple of years, she said "is there one for europe? i would rock europe". i found one for europe. she couldn't place spain, spain! it's freaking spain! i stopped her at that point and wept.

70%, one was a super-lucky guess thought, so it should be %60

2006-09-15 10:06:48 AM
I gave up when it asked me where "Vanatu" was. Give me a geography quiz not written by Survivor fans.

2006-09-15 10:09:28 AM
5% is impossible, as there are only ten questions. I guess you could take it twice and only get one right. And WTF, no points for coming close?? I picked the stupid island next door half the time! Gr.

Goomba already pointed this out, but since when is "Holy See" the official name for the Vatican City?

Wiki: Although the Holy See is closely associated with the Vatican City, the independent territory over which the Holy See is sovereign, the two entities are separate and distinct. After the Italian takeover of the Papal States in 1870, there was some uncertainty among jurists as to whether the Holy See, without territorial sovereignty, could continue to act as an independent personality in international matters. A number of countries - mostly Catholic nations plus the notable powers of Russia, Prussia and Austria-Hungary - did recognize Vatican sovereignty, but most nations did not.

The State of the Vatican City was created by the Lateran treaties in 1929 to "insure the absolute and visible independence of the Holy See" and "to guarantee to it an indisputable sovereignty in international affairs" (quotes from the treaty). Archbishop Jean-Louis Tauran, the Holy See's former Secretary for Relations with States, said that the Vatican City is a "minuscule support-state that guarantees the spiritual freedom of the Pope with the minimum territory". [1]

The Holy See, not the Vatican City, maintains diplomatic relations with states (such as with the United Kingdom), and participates in international organizations. Foreign embassies are accredited to the Holy See rather than to the Vatican City, and it is the Holy See that establishes treaties and concordats with other sovereign entities. When necessary, the Holy See will enter a treaty on behalf of the Vatican City.

Oh. I see. Shenanigans.
