Youtube will gladly remove any material that the uploader does not own the copyright to.

Suing them for copyright infringement is like suing makers of recordable media - blank VHS tapes, DVDR, CDR, blank audio tapes. They did this exact same thing twenty years ago when the blank tape and the cassette recorder became popular, so don't treat it like it's a new thing, or that it's their lawyers that are to blame. These people make a living screwing everyone but themselves - the competition, the musicians, the consumers - whoever they can, they will.

Youtube's pretty cool and all that, but anyone who's been around the intarwebs for awhile has been just assuming it will never last. Enjoy it while it's around. I think it's got probably 6 months left before it gets sued off the web for a year or two, and eventually gets sold and comes back as a lame neutered version that includes nothing copyrighted, and just corporate-sponsored BS with DRM and a special player you have to download for windows only. Mark my words.

The honesty of Universal is refreshing however. They seem unconcerned about protecting their copyright and are all about getting YouTube and MySpace to pay them millions. They usually hide behind some "protecting our property" crap for a while before admitting they just want to get paid for someone else doing the marketing they should be doing.
