next time she'll be squared away when she gets on a friggin bus...so-more or less-problem solved...

2006-09-14 08:21:24 PM
If all she had to do was show it what was the problem? I could understand him being peeved if she was supposed to swipe it or something. Personally I enjoy the funny quirks old people get. I'm sure I'm going to be a major pain to be behind on the roadways in 30 years or so. My granny passed in 1996 at the ripe old age or 94 and I took her to the grocery store every friday night to get the same 15 items. She didn't even have to be there, but she enjoyed the trip. The fun started after she paid for her items and then proceded to put away her change, fold her ticket just so, then find that one special place in her purse for her change bag, etc... Sometimes the person behind her was already rung up and paid before she was ready to leave and you could hear people mumbling, well, Granny couldn't hear them. I'd just smile at them and nod, take her by the arm and escort her out, totally oblivious to what was going on behind her. It'd be nice to just take her shopping one more time.

I farking hate bus drivers... One forbid me from getting on his bus because I was "too angry," only thing I did was not hold my ticket right...

2006-09-14 08:31:08 PM
Oh I didn't mention that that left me stranded in Columbus for 10 hours, after I waited 6 hours for that bus because the one I took there broke down on the way...

2006-09-14 08:31:43 PM
My 70+ year old Mom told me she got yelled at because she didn't know they moved the card reader down the aisle to the right away from the driver. I lotta of younger people like me took a while to figure that out, too. I wish I was there when the asshat had the tirade. He'd be sucking his next lunch through a straw.

"We've seen drivers yell at passengers who block the doors, talk loud on their cell phones and don't move to the back, all of which we support."

On the MBTA, not ony will people move into the train to let other peole on, people exiting the train can't because people trying to get on the train block the door.

The only thing public transportation has over driving is the money you save. If I had the money, I'd drive every damn day, rain or shine, trafic jams or not. At least you don't have to tell some person for the third time to stop leaning all over you when you're riding the train (and why can't it be a hot woman leaning on you ?).

I don't mind the old ladies that move slowly; I figure, hey, you can't expect a 200yo woman to move all that fast. The old ladies that piss me off are the ones that scrutinize every charge and make a clerk go check prices that they think are wrong. Only the price is *never* wrong, it's just that the old bat has Alzheimer's or something and "remembered" the price from 10 years ago or some shiat.

2006-09-14 08:36:00 PM
The problem is that they (old people) NEVER HAVE IT ACCESSIBLE. Seriously. When I get on the bus I have my money in hand, or have quick access to it. Old people leave it in their purses/fanny packs, get on the bus, then dig for it for 10 minutes. When your in a hurry its goddamn annoying.

2006-09-14 08:36:48 PM
She said the woman replied, "How dare you call me that." No word on what he called her.

Leather-faced hag?

2006-09-14 08:37:31 PM
If I ever saw someone treating an old lady like that, I'd have 'em skipping rope with their own intestines. Then I'd hurt them. Respect the elderly, or at the very least, don't abuse them. Jeebus.

I was just mentioning on another forum today how I much I dislike dealing with government/ civil service employees who we all know are among the brightest, smartest and most engaging people on the face of the earth. I'd rather walk than ride on a bus with the dregs of society who dwell on such vehicles.

/Yeah, call me elitist.

This reminds me of how frustrating I find it to get in line behind someone (usually an older woman) who doesn't even move to take out the checkbook or begin writing until all items are scanned.

It's just politeness to do as much as you can (if you must write a check) so those behind you don't have to wait on you any more than necessary.

She was standing at the bus stop--why didn't she already have the card ready to go?

legion_lives: he problem is that they (old people) NEVER HAVE IT ACCESSIBLE.

When you're an old lady, you clutch your purse, you never dig in it while walking. You might drop it (then you have trouble bending to pick it up), or someone might snatch it.

Old people deserve respect and if they are just paying for something in a grocery store line they are not going to do anything to physically harm you. Chill, they are old and they have probably done a lot of cool stuff and, now, they just don't move as fast as they used to. However, if they have driven their car into the grocery store line, a complaint would probably be valid.

Large vagina much?

/WTF?

2006-09-14 08:45:18 PM
I consider myself to be a fairly patient man, but when an old lady is in front of me in line and insists on counting out $5.00 in pennies I am often overwhelmed with the urge to snatch her walker and brutally pummel her with it. Does that make me a bad person?

2006-09-14 08:45:46 PM
Now that I am in my 40s, I am really beginning to understand how the elderly are routinely subjected to such abuse. Like some of the others, if I saw that taking place, I would have opened a can of verbal whoop-ass on that driver. The article was right -- if someone is obviously a frail senior citizen, why do they need to flash a card to get the discount? Thank you for listening.

2006-09-14 08:47:30 PM

Why limit yourself to verbal?

She shoulda had her shiat squared away before she stepped foot on the bus. Why the fark is it that people get on the bus, and only then realize "oh yeah I better dig through my purse/wallet/bag for my bus card/fare." These same tools may also be found at checkout registers at a store near you.

Just another driver (bus, train, plane) who didn't get any pussy for his WEENER last night...

/needs destressing...

2006-09-14 08:59:23 PM

I was once at a convention in another city, where I met a very attracive woman who invited me back to her hotel room.

But we needed to make a stop at the drug store first. So of course, I am waiting in line with my new friend waiting to pay for one box of rubbers, and in front of me is this 300 year old man who not only must dispute the prices of every thing, but also has a fist full of expired coupons, and then has to pay with exact change, which was hidden in a number of pockets all about his person. Then after all this searching, he comes up short, but insists on searching further.

At this point I thought my penis was going to jump out of my pants and kill this man. I slapped a 20 on the counter and said, "I'll pay for his stuff!, and this too!" giving the clerk the trojans. The look on her face was priceless!

It was worth it!

I guess the point is, even old people should be ready to pay when they get their total, it's not like it's a suprise ending to the transaction!

2006-09-14 09:00:07 PM
Good for him! I can't stand people that fumble for their cards or money. How long have you waited for the bus? Do you think you could have your shiat together? Most bus drivers tell the farkers to take a seat and get their shiat together while the bus is moving or simply instruct them to forget about the fare and get on the damn bus.

renko: She shoulda had her shiat squared away before she stepped foot on the bus.

Perhaps she had nowhere to sit, until she got on the bus. It might not be so easy for an old person to look through their purse while standing, especially if she had a cane or walker. Wait till you're old and you can't use your hands as well as you do now. I dread it, personally.

Patience is not one of my fortes either, but if you serve the public, at least try to be civil. And don't brake the bus so fast that I'm thrown out of my seat by 5 G's of force, K THX.

2006-09-14 09:07:43 PM
I suppose the good news is that she wasn't driving...

Seriously. I recently moved and actually have to drive a short ways to get to work, since I now live more than a mile from my office.

Old people are the absolute worst. Closely followed by the people who are too stupid to talk on a cell phone and drive at the same time.

My girl calls me mean because I yell at ANYONE who drives like a retard. "But they're OLD", she says. So what? Is that an excuse? I don't care if you're 19 or 90. If you can't drive, get the hell off the road.

So why DIDN'T you say that, wuss?

bobsuncle: While on the subject of planning ahead in check-out lines, busses, etc. it's nice to know so many of you butt munches are never going to grow old.

When I get older (I am already old), I plan to not ride the bus during rush hour if I can't manage to find a card when the bus arrives. Of course, when I am older I will be living on a private island in the Philippines, the only moving vehicle being my gold plated rocket car to get me to the other side of the island. I will tell tales of how I used to wear onions on my belt because it was the fashion in 2006.

I have ridden the CTA busses and El a lot in the last few years and some bus drivers let passengers walk all over them and some don't take shiat from anybody. My favorite bus driver is this guy who drives the 77 down Belmont all night. One morning there were five people on this bus and this rider wearing headphones was humming away REALLY REALLY badly and just when I thought I was about to snap and starting beating this guy senseless, the driver pulls over, runs up to the guy and yells, "I TOLD YOU ONCE, IF YOU'RE GOING TO SING DO IT IN THE SHOWER!" He said some more stuff about throwing him off the bus and calling the cops, but after that the guy was quiet. That driver was my hero.
I have seen so many people get on the bus and just blatantly refuse to pay. Or sometimes the rider will pretend to look around for $2 or a fare card for a few blocks then try to sit down. I don't blame bus drivers for getting upset at old people because I've seen old bums try to pull one over on the drivers many times.

2006-09-14 11:23:47 PM
Hey, atleast they're not the ones driving...I'm sure we all know how it feels when you get some 70 year old bugger who can't see drive 30 below the speed limit.

/Why do I always get stuck behind them when I have somewhere to be?

Exactly. I used to work retails. Sometimes, I'd get old people that would really, really push my buttons. Really disliked them

That's why I put on my best smile and did my best to look cheerful and happy.

They are old people. Treat them with respect. They piss you off? Unless they are really going over the board (and insult you), let them be. They've earned it.
