(ESPN)   Islanders sign DiPietro to 15-year $67.5 million dollar deal. Worst ever? The Celtics, $13.5 million, Vin Baker and his AA sponsor cry foul (voting enabled for your choice)   ( divider line

This is one of the stupiest signings ever. 15 years. He'll be done in less then 5. See what happens when a stupid owner who doesn't know his ass from his elbow gets involved with hockey related issues. And I don't even like the Islanders. Owner should shut the hell up, let the hockey guys do their business. Kinda like what the Devils owner does with Lamoriello. Lou's got the whole winning Stanley Cups down, so the owner lets him make the decisions.

Wow, Just Wow, 15 Years, whats the point, Its not like hes Gretzky or something. Theres no way he finishes out that contract.

Didn't Magic Johnson have the record for the longest contract signing at 25 years?

If there was one NHL team that would do something like this, it would have to be the Islanders. Honestly, no other team comes close to being run as poorly as this franchise.

Can't wait to watch the fishsticks crash and burn this year. Wouldn't it be great if he got injured in the pre-season? 67 million for one game of hockey.

I guess they wanted to top the stupidity of the Washington Capitals' 10-year, $90m contract with Yammy Yeager.

Next move? Garth Snow is replacing all 5 skater spots with goalies. Yep, meet the first NHL all-goalie team!

You'd think Wang would learn for Yashin. I mean come on. Poor Isles fans.

for the rangers, thats the best contract in the NHL. we get just about the best player in hockey for 4.5M.

The Jagr deal was 7yr/77M.

If DiPietro were to get injured, his contract wouldn't count against the cap, so the Isles could care less about. It also wouldn't count if he got sent down to Bridgeport since he's under 35. The fact it's $4.5 a year isn't bad, I think it's the outlandish tenure they gave him in the contract.

Unless DiPietro becomes a top-five goalie this deal is a bust. He isn't worth 4.5 mil now and may never be worth it. This contract is foolish because even if he gets injured he counts against the cap (you can only replace a salary with an equal or lesser salary for injured players) and he is guaranteed that contract unless he quits the game. The NHL's CBA is almost as stupid as the NBA's... once you sign a player you are committed to paying him for the length of the contract. And sending him down doesn't necessarily take him off the cap unless it's a two-way contract (and you don't sign a guy to a 15 year two-way deal!).
