Keith is not a journalist, and MSNBC does him no favors promoting him as such. MSNBC joins the list of cable "news" networks (Fox News and now, sadly, CNN) who don't broadcast news -- only divisive infotainment masquerading as real journalism. But as it's already been pointed out, it's about the message, not the messenger. Mr. Olbermann is spot on about what he espouses.

"Failed sportscaster?" Sure. The far left equivilant of Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly? Probably. Will his words have any effect that other dissent hasn't already had? Probably not.

But it is worth hearing...and greenlighting...over and over again.

Also, if you think any of what he said was over the top, you apparently haven't seen this. (pops) It's the latest trend in polarizing the masses.

A sportscaster disrespecting the Glorious Leader is clearly an insult to both Amurka and to the sports that make it great.

The Billdozer: Big difference. Limbaugh didn't make his name as a sportscaster to begin with. He was one to get into the game. Douchermann, on the other hand, was an anchor on SportsCenter.

You must be one of those bandwagon haters. You know, the type who thought Metallica was awesome when you were a kid, then hid all your Metallica CDs and t-shirts when you heard they sued teh Napster.

I guess the fact that I wore a Metallica shirt out yesterday would kinda put the kabosh on that assumption.

So he was a failure at that too?
Maybe you should wonder why he was in the Dominican Republic with a jug of Viagra.

Don't think that KO is/was hooked on Oxycontin either.

If you leave something to persue a better opportunity, how the hell does that make you a failure? I guess Jordan was a failure at basketball when he went to play baseball, huh?

Frankly, I couldn't care less why Rush had a bottle of Viagra in the DR. Also, he was additcted to Oxycontin based on his need for medication after a painful back injury. I know you are a liberal, and therefore you can't think for yourself and you have a pre-Neanderthal brain size and thinking ability, but do try to come up with better talking points that I'm supposed to give a fark about.

So here's a question - who among right-wing commentators has given commentary that compares to Keith Olbermann's? If you have some examples, please list them and/or link to them.

I really enjoy hearing/reading well-written commentary, and it's been a joy to hear Olbermann doing his.

HumbleGod: I'm not seeing how people can only see this as a mere "OMG Bush needs to fix the WTC memorial" thing. Or at least people who actually paid attention to it.

It's a nice distraction from the message.

See, it goes like this:

Olbermann: Smackdown, smackdown, smackdown, rebuilding WTC as a metaphor, smackdown, smackdown, smackdown.

Bush Supporter: OMG@!!!! Bush doesn't run the WTC rebuilding effort@@!! What a tool.

And kinda misses the point that if GWB really wanted something to happen there, he could make it happen--even if just by force of using the bully pulpit he is afforded every time he speaks.

Yes, because there is hard evidence that Rush went out looking for drugs before he had back surgery. It's also been apparent for a long time you are addicted to some kind of drug. You would have to be in an altered state of mind to believe or post some of the ignorant crap you do.

The comments on Limbaugh are just a distraction from the real discussion at hand. Limbaugh was subjected to a deferred prosecution agreement on May 1, 2006 on the condition that he keep his nose clean for 18 months. Full text of the agreement here: Slate .com document

This is a legal procedure not unlike a plea-bargain agreement for probation for a guilty individual, but without the stigma of a guilty verdict on Limbaugh's record. Since the primary charge of doctor-shopping never went to a trial, Rush Limbaugh is technically not guilty, but he most likely would be convicted of felony doctor-shopping if taken to trial.

Okay, back to the main discussion.

Limbaugh never stopped playing golf once. When you have a back injury that Rush claims he had, you don't play golf. Guy's a junkie scumbag, plain and simple, and he probably went to the Dominican Republic to fark underaged protitutes.

2006-09-13 09:18:50 AM
Amazing dozer, you dismiss Olbermann because of his sportscaster past, but don't mind Limbaugh's drug abuser present.

At least TGOT tries to stay sane, and when he goes over the edge it's way more entertaining.

Is that the same injury that kept him out of the armed services? No, wait, that was a hemorrhoid. Or maybe that was why he dropped out of college after failing two classes?

Sheez, you can't make this stuff up.

From reading the Limbaugh thread and this one, I was struck by the subject and the reference to "hate" as pointed out above.

I keep hearing about this hate, and how it prevents people from actually understanding the issues.

In this thread, where is the hate being most spoken from - the "left" or the "right" and if we read every person's posts in this thread, who is spewing the most vile hatred?

Would you know anything about this Billdozer?

Sorry for the threadjack.

That sure would be ironic, TGAT if, in fact, KO ever made that claim.

Olbermann a failed sportscaster?

From wiki

In 1992, he joined ESPN's SportsCenter, a position he would hold until 1997. He often co-hosted SportsCenter with Dan Patrick, the two becoming a popular anchor team. Olbermann quickly became known for his wit, reporting style, and his tight chemistry with co-anchor Patrick. In 1995, Olbermann won a Cable ACE award for Best Sportscaster while co-anchoring the "big show" as he called it (often referencing the Sunday night SportsCenter). Olbermann would later co-author a book with Patrick called The Big Show about their experiences working at SportsCenter. On the May 10, 2004 episode for Countdown, Olbermann claimed that the short-lived ABC dramedy "Sports Night" was based on his time on SportsCenter with Patrick.

Five years on the job with a industry award doesn't sound much of a failed sportscaster. Sounds like he burned some bridges (he sounds like a dickhead, anyway), but it didn't sound like he couldn't do the job.

Rush lasted, what, less than a month?

EdJofJupiter respectfully asks,

"Will someone please spell out for me in plain, elementary English, what "lessons" we should have learned from the 9/11/01 attacks?"

Never make the assumption that you are free from retribution when you meddle in the affairs of others. There is no ocean so wide, no army so powerful, no border so impenetrable that will prevent a motivated individual or group from exacting revenge.

EdJofJupiter: Will someone please spell out for me in plain, elementary English, what "lessons" we should have learned from the 9/11/01 attacks? Please tell me specifically, in your own words.

Not my words, but the words of John Aravosis channelling Karl rove:

The Constitution only applies when the going gets easy.
War is the answer, even when you forget the question.
The truth is for sissies.
America has never faced an enemy as dangerous and as intent on killing us as King George, the Civil War, World War I, the Germans, the Japanese, a nuclear Soviet Union Al Qaeda.
The real September 11 story was badly in need of editing.
Just because they say it makes it so.
We have always been at war with Oceania.
A fool is born every election day.
Due process is for the innocent.
Patriotism means never having to say you're sorry.
It's all Sandy Berger's fault.

That's about it. Olbermann's career, in bullet points:

*Gets hired at news place.
*Kicks ass while he's at the desk.
*Is a total prima donna when off-camera.
*Finally pisses off enough people, including higher-ups (especially higher-ups), to get fired.
*Gets hired somewhere else with a staff that hasn't seen him off-camera yet.
*Repeat.
