The fools! The world ended on September 12th 1981. Nobody noticed.

Strangely, and at the risk of pimping my own website, I was just discussing this auspicious anniversary today:

FTFA: Then when nothing happened, they started laughing.

I'd have thought "reflecting on their own gullibilty" would have been more appropriate than "laughing". Guess that's just me.

Ni!

Well....it's good to have something to smile about, then.

If I was born in Kenya, I'd probably yearn for the end of the world as well

"We knew these guys were tricksters," said local resident Duncan Mbugua, aka David Chappelle.

Of course the world failed with that kind of attitude!

Set your expectations for your fellow humans on "low", and the world will constantly reward you with pleasant surprises.

On a related note, I wonder if all the hotels in the Yucatan are already booked up for Dec 21, 2012? That's going to be one hell of a party.

I love end of the world cults. Been planning to start one myself. The basic idea is this:

I will declare that material possessions will doom us all, unless people relieve themselves of their wealth. The wealth should be directed to me as I will sacrifice myself for the rest of the world, sitting on a huge pile of money.

I have been told by Angel Shebang that the world will end on either October 24, 2008; April 14, 2010 or January 20, 2036; unless it fails to end on the aforementioned dates. In this case, it will end on another date to be determined.

Hmm. As opposed to where, Tel Aviv ?

The day isn't over yet and Bush is up and around. Yisrayl Hawkins is still waiting to see his shadow cast by nuclear armageddon.

Well at least they're happy about it.

/grumble grumble...

Asterix: Hmm. As opposed to where, Tel Aviv ?

Anywhere where 1,100$ would be a month of welfare, rather than the annual salary of most of the population

I would rather live on that than some place where some wild eyed Zionist/Muslim would arbitrarily kill, purely on religious belief.

So you'd trade your comfort to avoid going to a place that only exists in your head?

Dont worry Kenyans, we'll get it right sometime soon....

What're you talking about? I mean, c'mon. Where can you see lions?
Only in Kenya.
Go to Kenya; they've got lions.
Where can you see tigers?
Only in Kenya.
Got lions and tigers -- only in Kenya.

Forget Norway.

The article says there's lots of wild sects out there in rural Kenya, not all of them doomsday cults though. Give it a few decades and one of them will dominate. And lo, a new religion will be born from the ravings of some power-hungry dirt farmer.

Just like every religion before and after it.

2006-09-12 09:33:18 AM
Can't say as I'm surprised. Religious folks always live in fear of something. Let them waste their lives waiting for mythical events which will never happen.

That's going to be some awkward dinner conversation around the campfire.

Residents of Nyandarua village in central Kenya are full of relief, after a local sect's doomsday predictions failed to materialise.

The House of Yahweh sect had predicted that the world would end before 12 September and had started building bunkers in case of nuclear war.

Local sect? House of Yahweh is based in Texas.

Perhaps they should have killed themselves? Then the world would have ended...At least for them...

smokey the bear declares the forest is ending.

Mekongcola has a point. Why can't more screwball cults take after Heavens Gate. Castrate themselves then commit suicide. That's the ticket.

2006-09-12 10:22:20 AM
"after hundreds of a doomsday cult were killed six years ago in neighbouring Uganda after that group's predictions failed to come true."
It just makes so much sense to do that.

2006-09-12 11:01:55 AM
Yay! The world didn't end! Kenya believe it?

He got the dates mixed up as usual. So the world ends December 9.

It's time to face
