Aziz, LEFT!

/Botts' Dots

FNG [TotalFark]
2006-09-12 12:21:11 AM
They are reflectors. They reflect light, like those things on the back of your bicycle.

2006-09-12 12:34:02 AM
like FNG they're reflectors,

when you're out on a dark desert highway you really can't see the (faded/eroded) painted lanes that well. Without the reflectors, you might have to stop for the night.

/welcome to the hotel california

2006-09-12 01:02:36 AM
Some places they are there as reflectors and others are to keep people in their lanes/on the rouad/out of ditches. Some places don't have them at all (snowplows rip them out).

2006-09-12 01:57:34 AM
Bott's dots.

Common in Nevada and California because there is no risk of them being ripped out by plows, and because the lane markers tend to be faded/eroded/tarred -- in Vegas you can hardly make out the painted/taped lane markers.

Around we exclusively have the recessed metal models, which are supposedly plow-resistant.

Jumpin German Jeebus some people have NO sense whatsoever

a) driving while blind
b) riding with a blind driver

Patub-tub---"What was that?....I dunno"
/who wants to let this blind farker drive, anyone?

ChicagoKev: Bott's dots.

In the UK they're called Cat's Eyes.

So was the deaf and blind guy also a good pinball player?
Did he drive by sense of smell?

When you're driving down the highway at night
And you're feelin' that wild turkey's bite
Don't give johnny walker a ride
Cause jack black is right by your side
You might get taken to the jailhouse and find
You've been arrested for driving while blind

Now just the other night with nothin' to do
We broke a case of proof 102
And started itchin' for that wonderful feel
Of rollin' in an automobile
You could say we was out of our mind
And let me tell you we were flyin' while blind

Then they had us up against the wall
Hey it's only blood grain alcohol
And there ain't no cause for alarm
We ain't out to do nobody no harm
How could anyone be so unkind
To arrest a man for drivin' while blind

FTA: "Omed Aziz was also banned from driving for three years at Warley magistrates' court in Oldbury, West Midlands."

Won't he still be blind in three years?

When it's pouring rain, late at night, you're glad you've got those, or you're cursing the guy who thought lines would be enough.

2006-09-12 10:09:04 AM
The reflectors are especially helpful at night when it's raining, which can make the painted lines completely invisible.

2006-09-12 10:10:56 AM
We always thought they were for "her pleasure." The misses will be confused when she hears that these weren't intended to be used as honeypot stiumlators. To find out that this is not the case after spending all our hard-earned money on a specially built donut sidecar is heartbreaking.

2006-09-12 10:12:09 AM
Hey look, it seemed like a good idea at the time!

2006-09-12 10:13:33 AM
ok someone explain this to me please....

Omed Aziz was also banned from driving for three years at Warley magistrates' court in Oldbury, West Midlands.

dosent the fact THAT HE HAS NO FARKING EYES!!! mean that he is banned from driving for life?

idiots.

" When Aziz, who is also partially deaf," ... " also suffers from leg tremors and has only two fingers on his right hand"...

Do they call him lucky?

2006-09-12 10:26:55 AM
finally the 'donate your vehicle to the blind' ads I have been seeing around here are starting to make sense.

-the g/f and I still lol when we see them...

TFA: Omed Aziz was also banned from driving for three years at Warley magistrates' court in Oldbury, West Midlands

The only thing that came to mind was it somehow fit into a mandatory sentence of some sort, if they have those stupid things there.

I still don't know who would drive through a magistrate's court, blind or sighted.

I prefer cats eyes to bots dots, not that i hate cats or anything it's just slightly gratifying running over them when you think there's a cat attached.

"...remove his sunglasses, the officer was surprised to see he did not have any eyes."

I hope the cop didn't scream like a little girl when it happened. He is going to have nightmares for years to come.

This reminds me of another question...Why is there braille on drive up ATMs?

2006-09-12 10:48:07 AM
In his defense he has leg tremors and only two fingers on his right hand....oh, and NO EYES!!

2006-09-12 10:48:49 AM
I hope the court sent him a strongly-worded letter.

2006-09-12 10:53:26 AM
Better article here because it mentions he wore a t-shirt to court that said "MO7H3R F*****" on it. I guess he could claim he couldn't see what it said.

2006-09-12 10:54:30 AM
I'm suprised he got out of his driveway. Have to give him a certain amount of credit for getting as far as he did.

/driving is scary!

My kids asked why there was a chirping sound at certain intersections. I told them it was so deaf people knew when to cross the street. They gave me some puzzled looks.

/I know they're there for the blind drivers.

dosent the fact THAT HE HAS NO FARKING EYES!!! mean that he is banned from driving for life?

No, of course not. That would be undue discrimination. What will keep him from driving is the fact that he will never pass the justifiable vision test.

2006-09-12 11:14:04 AM
actually, if you've ever driven in florida durring a rainstorm... the dirt is white, the road is white, the cars are white.

when the rain comes down hard... ALL you see is those little botts

2006-09-12 11:27:28 AM
I actually told that reflector thing to an old girlfriend of mine, she is so gullible. She thought about it for a while and asked, "how do they know when to stop?" I told her that the Stop signs are all in braile. She just replied with a satisfied "oh".

>Around we exclusively have the recessed metal models, which are supposedly plow-resistant.

They may be plow-resistant, but they're sure as heck not frost or pothole resistant! They've been putting them in here in MA for 10 years or so. They last about one season. They re-pave the roads every 5 or ten years, so every now and then, you see a stretch where all the pmarkers are still there...

Umm...

I thought they were there for when it rained and you can't see the lines due too an excess of water.

2006-09-12 12:59:34 PM
A blind man was convicted for dangerous driving? Shouldn't he have just been convicted for driving? Adding dangerous in there is a wee bit redundant.

Well, it *is* 2006. Who knows what they'll be able to do for him in the future. Should his privledege be revoked in 2018 if science comes up with the artificial eye?

Anyone else just say WTF??? after reading that? HES BLIND! HE CANT DRIVE!!! IS IT LIKE BUMPER DRIVING OVER THERE??? ARE THE STREETS LIKE BOWLING ALLEYS?

What the fark are plows doing on the highway?

/no wonder CA is so messed up

The rumble strips are there before toll plazas for blind drivers too.

I grew up in the midwest with nothing but crappy painted on lines you couldn't see in the dark when it was wet. Didn't see my first "turtle" until a trip to Floriduh. Now I'm in Seattle and they are everywhere. Just white non-cat's eye bumps that go on top of the lines.

I actually saw them being put down once too. You'd think it woudl be all high tech ... nope ...
Two guys hanging off the side of a truck, one with a tar/glue gun and one with a stack of turtles.
squirt ... press ... squirt ... press ...
Talk about a low pressure job.

What the fark are plows doing on the highway?

Maybe that was sarcasm but he's talking about snow plows. I don't know what he's talking about when he says there's no plows on the road though since we have tons of roads that need plowing. The Sierra Nevada mountain range here in Cali is higher than the Rockies.
