Soooo... there are 2 MySpaces now?
2006-09-11 09:44:32 PM
First the stalkerfeed, now this. I know facebook isn't exactly private, but now it's selling out and turning into myspace junior. Having facebook open to everyone is going to make it less elite and ruin my street cred!

/mostly joking
2006-09-11 10:04:10 PM
yeah so, I'm leaving facebook now, elistism was the only good part
2006-09-12 08:58:15 AM
Facebook is ghey, anyway
2006-09-12 09:13:32 AM
Even worse decision than the damn stalker feed. Hell, I didn't even like it when they opened it up to high schoolers.
2006-09-12 09:17:22 AM

Who thinks that they'll compete

Who thinks that one will buy the other, or they'll merge?
2006-09-12 10:02:21 AM
yep, 2 myspaces. that'll kill it in a hurry
2006-09-12 10:02:27 AM
does this mean that i can go to Harvard now?

/so long, Syracuse University, i'm now a Harvard student.
//hey, it's official. it's on Facebook
2006-09-12 10:02:56 AM
Right, because someone attending a community college is so much more elite than someone with a salaried job.
2006-09-12 10:02:59 AM
screw facebook, I quit it when Iwas getting a million invitations from people I haven't talked to in years to go to their shiatty band shows
2006-09-12 10:04:39 AM
All I know is that people on that thing are pretty stupid. When I taught in grad school I caught two cheaters through facebook (I figured out someone else had taken an exam for an other girl, googled their names, found them on facebook and found out that they were best friends in high school) went to my chairman with the information -- F's all round.

Moral of the story:

1.if you're going to cheat try not to make it obvious.
2.if you're going to make it obvious don't make it so easy for me to find out who you are and how you know each other.
2006-09-12 10:04:56 AM
So now the only difference between Facebook and Myspace is that Facebook doesn't let you redesign your profile with eye-wateringly terrible colors, animated gifs and music?

We'll be seeing it in a few months, I'm sure.
2006-09-12 10:07:04 AM
i have a facebook, but only because some random person used my e-mail address to create one. too bad for them they didn't have my e-mail password, so they couldn't activate the account.
2006-09-12 10:09:30 AM
Facebook is better than myspace, thats why I'm on facebook, not myspace. Facebook has been trying to be exactly like myspace lately. Really lame.
2006-09-12 10:11:23 AM
I think this is just facebook's way of saying 'fark you' to all the users who protested their crappy news feed thing.
2006-09-12 10:11:51 AM
Does anyone think that myspace, facebook or any of the clones

a) contribute anything to society
b) will be around more than another year
2006-09-12 10:12:31 AM
Yay, now I will get random webcam porn stars trying to friend on two different profiles.

/braces for spam
2006-09-12 10:13:15 AM
a) nope, I just use it to stay in touch with people
b) yeah, definitely. social networking has been huge for a while, and I don't think it will decline anytime soon.
2006-09-12 10:13:34 AM
Your cheat-fu is strong. On a side note, why do students always act surprised when their instructors mention that they found something on teh intartubes? Yes, at the ripe old age of 31 I have figured out how to work a computer.

/this "facebook" thing is for whippersnappers though
2006-09-12 10:13:36 AM
I have found Facebook to be more useful than Myspace. That's not saying much since Myspace is useless.

Currently using Facebook to find some Auburn/LSU tickets. Anyone out there selling for under $100?
2006-09-12 10:14:50 AM
What did I say..."facebook is teh ghey"...

2006-09-12 10:16:47 AM
I bet that dude is kicking himself he didn't sell for $750 million because he wanted to 'wait for a billion'.
2006-09-12 10:17:31 AM
Because being privilaged enough to go to college marks you as superior!!!
2006-09-12 10:17:53 AM sentiments exactly.

myspace = also ghey
2006-09-12 10:18:32 AM
Right, because someone attending a community college is so much more elite than someone with a salaried job.

"Assistant managers"(regular workers who sign forms for 5 minutes a week) at KFC are on salary. They get paid maybe $25,000 a year for working 50-60 hour weeks.

Having a salary doesn't mean anything in and of itself. For an increasing number of Americans, it merely means doing the same job for less pay because now you don't get overtime pay.

Kids, go to college, your chances of getting screwed in this economy are close to 100% if you don't.
2006-09-12 10:19:23 AM
Well, it looks like MyFaceBook is in a bit of a sticky situation with it's constituents.
2006-09-12 10:20:38 AM
myspace is mostly an internet eyesore.

anyone here remember the early days of the web and personal websites such as geocities, fortunecity, AOL, etc.?

yeah, all that great design aesthetic has made a huge comeback on myspace. people clutter their pages with sh*tty videos, crappy music, and enough animated garbage to give you a f*cking seizure.

2006-09-12 10:21:13 AM

No kidding eh? Some girl recently posted her cover letter for a group I read to review (letter was pretty standard and I doubt anyone would really read it "I look forward to hearing from you, yadda blah blah"). Had her real name, I googled it and found she posts to "free erotic sex stories" (fine whatever, but some HR person may not be so cool with it).

Oh and the girls from my story above -- both cried it was pretty funny. The dean wanted to kick them outbut my chairman and I both pleaded for mercy -- they were clearly too stupid to leave school at that point, I mean they didn't even know how to cheat.
2006-09-12 10:21:33 AM
I really want to say something witty, intelligent and add something to the discussion.....but I can't.
2006-09-12 10:22:35 AM

I'm old, and hear that the facebook has pictures of nude co-eds, and i want in.

/everything in the preceding sentence is true
2006-09-12 10:23:38 AM
Now Brody Ruckus will get his threesome for sure!
2006-09-12 10:24:07 AM
Meh, so long as you don't add weirdos to your friends list, they won't get anything important, unless of course you have a scandalous pornfile... err, profile pic, in which case, you deserve whatever lech looks you up.
2006-09-12 10:24:20 AM
Oh crap. Something else I don't know about or understand.
2006-09-12 10:25:09 AM
Yes, because one myspace wasn't enough apparently.

The only purpose of facebook was to limit it to the college and post-college crowd...i thought.
2006-09-12 10:25:14 AM
God forbid you just spend $20 and buy your own domain name with web hosting.
2006-09-12 10:25:52 AM
I'ver never heard of facebook before, but my University allows all alumni to keep their e-mail addresses forever, so I don't see how requiring a school e-mail address is limiting the membership much. Why not require proof of age?
2006-09-12 10:26:03 AM

I've been on facebook since the humble beginnings, and I've yet to see any "nude co-eds."
Just a bunch of stuck-up biatches/pricks who are too cool for MySpace.
2006-09-12 10:26:21 AM

// j/k
////"free erotic sex stories"
//Now that I got your attention, more slashies
2006-09-12 10:27:19 AM
......the entire draw of facebook is that it's a controlled age group. it's mostly impossible to join if you're under 18. the problem with this is you're going to have a shiatload of kids flooding onto it. along with the fact that only about 5% of the population was jailbait..after this it'll be about 50/50.

hwah: I think this is just facebook's way of saying 'fark you' to all the users who protested their crappy news feed thing.

i take it you didnt read his apology
2006-09-12 10:28:10 AM
I didn't mind the stalkerfeed, but I hate this change. Blah.
2006-09-12 10:30:57 AM
my brother has a facebook account. he's had it since last year, when he was a freshman.

in high school.
2006-09-12 10:32:22 AM
Bonus! I'll just start a different, more elitist social-networking site, and only I say who can join.
Facebook -- move your feet, lose your seat.

/so elite, YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED.
//excuse me, so 1337.
2006-09-12 10:35:00 AM
facebook was elite for about 2 months when it was strictly ivies and a few others.

I remember those days.
2006-09-12 10:35:12 AM
That's pretty lame. Facebook really did help me keep in touch with my friends from high school and stuff. Now it'll be full of 13/45 year old losers like MySpace.
2006-09-12 10:35:16 AM

You just don't have the right "friends". Not trying to be an ass, but just sayin.

Anyway, first the RSS feed scandal and now this? I think the increased ads, reduced privacy emphasis, and whoring to a broader user base hints a website sale must be in the works.
2006-09-12 10:35:42 AM
I didn't like the fact how exclusive facebook was.

You don't have to use your real name, do you?
2006-09-12 10:36:24 AM
Nicely put moosen!
This is the worst change ever!!! I infrequently used facebook (since friends did) and refused to use myspace b/c anyone could use it!
