(Winston) "Does the Brotherhood exist?"

(O'Brien) "That, Winston, you will never know. If we choose to set you free when we have finished with you, and if you live to be ninety years old, still you will never learn whether the answer to that question is Yes or No. As long as you live it will be an unsolved riddle in your mind."

Dear Al Queda,

Don't take credit for the Saudi Arabian's (or as I like to call them, the "with friends like these who needs an enemy" people) work. You guys couldn't organise a crapping contest in an Exlax factory.

By the way, just wait till you find out about the whole virgins thing! You're in for some "fun"!

All the best,
Someone who doesn't have to live in a cave.

FuDude: Whew. Good thing that we've spent the last five years not over-stretching our resources in Iraq, have captured Osama Bin Laden, and have the fantastic war-planning skills of the Bush Administration to protect us.

Oh, wait...

Because should have invaded Pakistan with those troops? As long as he's in that country, no amount of US troops will be getting him out.

No! Who cares? Seriously, everybody needs to stop being whiny about this, everybody dies, it really isn't a big deal that 3000 more died on one day, in fact it wasn't even enough to make a noticable increase in the usual ammount that died that day. GET OVER IT.

Raditzdm: Anyone else get the feeling that the CIA has assloads of these videos that they got in Afghanistan, and just anonymosly release them at key points in time?

Ah, yes, it makes complete farkin' sense!

They got these videos in 2001, and they were waiting for Israel to fight with Lebanon AND Gaza AND for it to be close to 9/11 a few years later to dump this particular one.

And others relating to other elections released in 2004

Yup, plenty of old VHS they found lying around, and they are just releasing them on random

Makes perfect sense there.

... Do you happen to know where Jimmy Hoffa is, too?

Hmmm... on this anniversary I find myself wondering if Al Qaeda a)hasn't been able to plan and execute another attack on American soil or b) doesn't have to because the US totally lost it's shiat on that day and the government has been very careful to keep the public frightened ever since...

Personally, I think it's "B". From the standpoint of fallout I'd like to see from 9/11 if I were a terrorist I would be quite pleased with the current state of affairs. Let's look as why, shall we?

Firstly, the foreign policy of the US has become extremely aggressive and very erratic. Aggression is good, because it makes the US look like a meddling superpower which is good for recruitment. Erratic is good because the invasion of Iraq has stretched the US military to it's limits (while also slowly bankrupting the country). So, not only is recruitment and public opinion up, but you can watch countries like Iran and Syria act more brashly and in harmony with your way of thinking.

Secondly, the American public has (for the most part, if his re-election was any indication) rallied around a president that is ineffectual and generally regarded (outside of the US) as a destablizing global force. If you're in the fear business, it sure does help to have a fearful public.

Thirdly, the US government has taken the publics fears and run with it. Watch the US media. Look at how the US has chosen to deal with it's "war on terror".. . a colour coded alert system? Heavily visible and largely ineffective airport screening? The US for the last five years has been a culture steeped in fear. Thought it makes the populace easier to control and allows you to do away with pesky civil rights, it also skews the decision making powers of the populace, which is very dangerous in a republic.

So, if I were an islamo-facist terrorist, I would be very proud of my accomplishments. Everything seems to be going to plan... and if things continue on this path, the great Satan is either going to implode in a poof of authoritarianism of run out of money in the next 50 years or so. Might seem like a long time, but then, this is a problem of biblical origin... what's 50 years between enemies?

Al-Zawahiri died? When was that? It must have been pretty recent, since he's talking about the Lebanon conflict and 9/11...

Did we get him recently, like a few days ago?

I know. Seeing images or hearing reports from that day still raise the hair on my arms. It's a very, very sad day. I never understood why people said "I remember where I was when JFK/Luther King/X happened was shot".

Now I know, everything that happened that day will always be there.

# Gen. Mahmoud Ahmed, the head of the Pakistani intelligence service, was in Washington when the attacks occurred, conferring with government officials. The Indian press subsequently implicated him in wiring $100,000 to Mohamed Atta, the lead hijacker. When the story broke, he was pressured into retirement at U.S. insistence. His link to the attacks was never pursued.

# Two FBI agents approached attorney David Schippers with specific foreknowledge about the attacks. His repeated calls to Attorney General John Ashcroft were never returned. An article in New American on March 11, 2002, corroborated the agents' story. They claimed that knowledge of the plot was widespread within the FBI for months before 9/11.

# The air defense system breakdown on the day of Sept. 11 was unprecedented. Well-practiced protocols for dealing with suspected hijackings failed to function for an astonishing 90 minutes. The little-known existence of "coincidental" military war games has since been exposed, which undoubtedly caused confusion. And now, the chairman and vice-chairman of the 9/11 Commission claim (in a new book, "Without Precedent") that the military was less than completely honest.

# The collapse of steel-frame buildings -- such as the World Trade Center Towers -- due to fire is unprecedented. The collapse of Building 7, which was not hit by a plane, is especially inexplicable. Its collapse late in the afternoon of Sept. 11 exhibited 10 specific features of a controlled demolition, as did the collapse of the Twin Towers. More important, numerous eyewitnesses attest to hearing multiple explosions at the time. And, Steven Jones, a professor at Brigham Young University, discovered Thermate, an incendiary compound, in two molten steel samples taken from the site.

# From the beginning, the Bush administration delayed and otherwise impeded the investigation, preferring to focus on the foreign invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq enabled by the attacks.
