I'd like to believe that the only reson this got green-lit is because of the image posted by sterrno. I could be wrong.

Yeah, but Affleck was the bomb in "Phantoms".

Technically, Ben has been consistently terrible ever since the deplorable "Armageddon," but I especially have been unable to stomach him ever since he whined his way through "The Sum of All Fears."

I heard a review on NPR the other day, and the reviewer was saying this is the best Affleck has ever done as an actor.

While that may not be saying much, it still is saying somthing.

The only watchable role he's ever played was in Mallrats, when he was the guy who enjoyed screwing women in a very uncomfortable place.

/What, like the back of a Volkswagen?

It's sad that the foreign festivals are slowly transforming into american awards shows like the oscars and the golden globes.

I commend you for even watching The Sum of All Fears.

Affleck as Ryan combined with the Islamic Fundamentalists being replaced by Neo-Nazis (so as not to offend Muslim sensibilities) was an automatic "NO WAY IN HELL" in my book.

What's submitter's last movie?

/I thought so.

2006-09-09 10:06:12 PM
I dunno, I think he grates on people mostly because we don't give a shiat about his life and yet it was shoved down our throats. I contend you'd all be talking about him amicably if he never married fatbutt, nor was in Gigli and Jersey Girl.

/Still likes Dogma.

2006-09-09 10:07:33 PM
Awesome, he seemed to really pull a lot from his "public perception" for that role and it showed.

He's a decent guy that doesn't want to become self-involved (and delusional) through "fame." What's so wrong with that?

anyone like to recommend a decent new release as i'm about to head out the door to the rental shop? ....prefer it not to be with Benny boy.

I posted this before, but given the circumstances it definitely bears repeating:

REMEMBER everyone.....it doesn't much matter now anyway because Affleck has the Curse

I saw a commercial for Hollywoodland the other day. Affleck is barely seen, and they didn't even mention him in the ad. This is what he needs to do to rebuild his reputation, to do indie flicks with strong roles. He's not necessarily a bad actor, he just needs to stop doing stupid shiat.

This is why the Toronto film festival is so much better, and happening as we speak.

We would never celebrate the mediocrity that is Ben Affleck, no matter what performance he managed to pull off.

/Matt Damon is no better.

I don't have anything against the guy personally. I'm sure he's probably cool to have a beer with while talking sports. But that doesn't have anything to do with the opinion most people have that the guy can't act and that most of his films have been absolutely terrible.

And let me add that I saw Hollywoodland last night and Affleck was "acting" way above his game. That said, the script lacked conviction. It would have been a much better movie had they just decided on one theory as it's center and run with it. LA Confidential style.

The A. Brody as Private Eye's private life subplot with his Son was just SOOOOO (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) unnecessary.

As a matter of fact, its hard to shake the "I'm watching Ben Affleck as George Reeves" feeling, regardless how good his is. Kyle MacLachlan was originally slated to play Reeves, but wasn't bankable enough even to float the budget. But it would have helped Hollywoodland out a lot.

Blahhhhh, blahhhhh, blahhhhhh.....See yah at the Oscars, BEN.

LA Confidential was Ellroy's fiction, Reeves' death is fact.

Unless you know what happened that night, dont get pissy.

I guess I fail Fark... I've enjoyed Affleck since he was a kid playing the grandson of Captain "Granny" Granville on that PBS series Voyage of the Mimi. I really don't get the hate.

/never caught Gigli or Jersey Girl though
//don't hate Matt Damon, either
///didn't hate Wheaton as Crusher, for that matter

Maybe the judges just really liked the idea of Ben shooting himself in the head.

2006-09-09 10:37:13 PM
Malinois, it is my god given right to get pissy. :)

Narrative film is fiction.

Oh wait, did you say that Reeves is actually dead?

Damn. Well then, that makes the script even worse than it is :)

Voyage of the Mimi... didn't that have a girl with a prosthetic leg in it. Didn't her and Ben's character make out or some such business?

2006-09-09 10:41:01 PM
Ben Affleck and bomb should only be used in the same reference when one has wiped him off of the face of the earth. He is a talentless hack with a face like a horse.

2006-09-09 10:41:56 PM
Affleck was quite good in a perfectly decent biopic. Just get over it already.

But it was Bob Hoskins who was really standout.

Hey, to all you self-righteous biatchers... he get's to fark Jennifer Garner.

/Not a fan of his.

Affleck's been in more turds than Tom Cruise's cock but he's ok in the Kevin Smith movies.

2006-09-09 10:50:14 PM
I still haven't forgiven Affleck for defiling the fair Jennifer Garner. But, it does seem like a nice comeback... after Gigli, I figured he wouldn't even get cameos in old buddy Kevin Smith's flicks.

2006-09-09 10:52:24 PM
On a related note, just how the fark was it that Armageddon was ever deemed worthy for inclusion in the Criterion Collection?

2006-09-09 10:52:38 PM
All you Affleck lovers should check out this charming performance in an interview from two years ago. (POPS)

What a drunk-ass prick.
