When I lived in Kansas, I think in '87 neither Kansas or Kansas St. won a game and they tied each other.

The Pittsburgh Steelers require a ticket for everyone as well.

I have 3 kids of my own and 2 foster children. I have no problem events with charging full price for kids. The child will take up a seat which could otherwise be used by an adult.

/Of course, if someone wants to charge kids less, I'm happy to pay less.

Lisa Foust headed to the Jayhawks' season opener last Saturday, they bundled up 3-month-old daughter Kate to go along.

The only way that seats getting filled is if they brought the high chair, stroller and tickle me Elmo concession stand kit.

Heroic Poser: they bundled up 3-month-old daughter Kate to go along.

They should have been charged more then full price just for being so stupid to bring a 6 month old to a sporting event. The child will not know what the hell is going on and just end up being a huge pain in the ass to everyone that is around the parents . Its sad that parents are so stupid that they don't know that nobody wants to sit next to a baby at a sporting event, movie, etc, etc.

Isn't this why stadiums have parking lots?

We're talking about the Kansas Jayhawks. There are plenty of empty seats, believe me.

I am a HUGE sports fan that HATES the economics of pro and big time college sports machines. But this is much ado about nothing. This is a very common practice at lots od pro and college sports venues. Good for the guys that don't, but it ain't like the Jayhawks are unique in this regard. Besides, I can see the point... if the kid is small enough to sit on a lap for three hours there's probably a diaper bag or stroller nearby. And it's probably encroaching into my seat. Who wants to take a toddler or infant to a a game? Wouldn't that be hell for all involved?

Which reminds me....why is it always windy in Kansas???

When the wind is out of the north, it's because Oklahoma sucks.
When out of the south, it's because Nebraska sucks.

On a calm day, they both suck. It's been a pretty calm summer this year.

Airfare should be double, too.

I got an idea, how about you don't take an infant to a football game? Why the hell would you take a 3 month old baby out into a crowd of drinking, screaming, football fans/fanatics?

2006-09-07 05:47:14 PM
Life begins at conception. From the moment of conception forward, babies, whether born or unborn, should be required to purchase separate admission. After all, with rights, like the right to life, come responsibilities.

Discuss in a calm and rational manner.

/Anyone who pays to watch Jayhawk football is a sucker, so infants will fit right in.

I wanna say that this is a conference wide issue. I recall having this same discussion about small children at Texas A&M and University of Texas games.

Stupid policy. Apparently KU is not alone here either.

And, Marchiony said, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has recommended that organizations require tickets for everyone at large events as a way to keep track of numbers.

WTF??? Is the DoHS the doorman with a clicker for the entire nation now? Why?

Yeah, and they had a kid, which means that you either A)Find a sitter or B)Don't go to the game. It's called "parental-responsibilty" and is something that is woefully missing from a goodly portion of the US. Infants do NOT belong at sporting events like that. Aside from the annoyance they provide to every other adult fan, there's also the risk of damage to the young child's hearing.

But ya know, don't let a silly thing like common sense come between ya'll and your football, right?

2006-09-07 05:58:09 PM
I don't understand people who take infants to football games. It's usually cold out and it's ALWAYS loud. At the very least you'd think the parents would be worried about their kids' earsdrums getting blown out.

2006-09-07 05:59:07 PM
Irresponsible parents, can't live with them... well you just can't live with them. Hopefully the morons wanting to take their infants to something as loud as a football game stay home as a "protest"

2006-09-07 05:59:12 PM
"An infant is basically football sized..."

Yeah, but people get upset if you punt it, or spike it.

2006-09-07 05:59:27 PM
I think it's fair. It's also fair for movie theaters to charge full price plus for infants. Almost every time I go to the movies, someone with a baby sits down behind me and I get to hear every whimper just so they don't pay a babysitter. I never dragged my kids along when they were infants or even toddlers. Believe me, charging admission isn't just for revenue, it's for the peace of patrons.

2006-09-07 05:59:50 PM
All the newborns are the players kids anyway.

Rarely do I agree with a Mizzou fan on anything, but amen to that. The Big 12 North sucks balls. The South? Not so much.

2006-09-07 06:00:46 PM
This is a great policy. Keeps at least some babies home and creates the very necessary space for others. Not only do parents usually bring a metric ton of other equipment that takes up AT LEAST the space of one seat, I do not want to have a baby being held right next to me that pukes, or whose face I accidentally smash in when I leap from my seat/pump my fist in the air/etc.

My son (6-mo) has fun at sporting events. Especially football and ice hockey. He likes to watch the colors move up and down the field. Plus, mommy and daddy play with him a lot while he's there.

/minor league games, both times
//so plenty of good seats available
///and he wasn't charged admission
////neither was I

Don't charge for infants at games or movies.

Don't charge double for infants at games or movies.

Prohibit infants from attending games and movies. Decent restaurants, too.

I guess you have to let them fly, but could we arrange separate flights?
