A fossil found in 1971

Sounds like a fark news flash to me.

I think its funny that it sat in a museum for 31 years before someone figured it out.
It's the little things that amuse me.

According to Intelligent Design/Creationism/Xtianity people, these would be nothing more than dog bones thrown together as part of Evil Science's plot to secularize society for Satan.

*blink blink*

And since they doubt the dating methods, and insist that the world was created 6-10,000 years ago, the margin of error for the carbon dating would have to be +/- 348,000,000 years....

Oh that all makes sense! Sign me up! Give me some guilt! Two helpings of Original Sin, please! Bad penis! NO FUKKY TIL HEAVIN JEBUS SAVE ME!#$

Ahhhh, good old fark. Nice and slow thereby encouraging me to actually work.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot.

oh yeah, go Darwin!

Hey, creationists... what was that about "no transitional forms"?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Wow, haven't heard a Strom Thurman joke since I disconnected the HBO.. no more Dennis Miller Live for me...

"It trudged through the swamp catching anything that moved -- not terribly exciting, I suppose," Clack said.

That's not a very nice statement. How does thos loser know what was and was not exciting for that poor water/land dweller. Is he the foremost expert on prehistoric raves/parties? Does he know which quadrapeds belonged to the 'in' crowd, and which didn't?

Sheesh

2002-07-03 04:07:37 PM
Jeez, I've been waiting to call that guy ex- (or late) Senator Thurmond for a couple decades! Makes you wonder what Methusaleh looked like near the end....

2002-07-03 04:10:40 PM
It was very cruel of the aliens in their 12th planet to plant all these fossil records for us to find, it just leads to mass confusion.

I hope they return soon, I'm sick of working and could really use a good overlord to rule me.

2002-07-03 04:11:30 PM
We still love you anyway Strom

...Scientists later realize it's only Bob Hope....

This caption is wrong. It's actually from the War of 1812, but who's counting?

2002-07-03 04:18:33 PM
He heh heh...

Millions of species, billions of cubic feet of earth to still search, finding the entire chain, one stinkin' fossil at a time. We need more archaeologists.

2002-07-03 04:18:36 PM
Philo---thats looks like tom hanks

2002-07-03 04:21:28 PM
AlgertMan, you mean that guy's ass to the left looks like Tom Hanks? Couldn't agree more.

2002-07-03 04:22:16 PM
That IS TOM HANKS.

This is some kind of goddamn conspiracy.

hehe... I love

2002-07-03 04:31:11 PM
A bit off topic but Thurmond ran for President against Harry Truman in 1948!!! This guy is a fossil for sure.

2002-07-03 04:34:13 PM
would a creationist argue that adam was the first land walker? If adam was created in gods image, god has legs. Would god have legs if he never walked on land? If not, maybe he swam.

PhaetonGrim:
Archaeologist study the HUMAN (and there ancestors) pass, Paleontologist study fossil remains of life.

Behold: a transitional fossil that helps close a gap in the fossil record, adding yet more creedence to the fact of evolution.

I cast Summon Bevets +5!

Back off on Strom. He served his country well. At lest he drive a ddrunk whore acroos a bridge.

One two many ds but who is counting?

"Scientists knew of no other fossils, until Pederpes, that represented any sort of intermediate stage between the aquatic and terrestrial tetrapods."

-Now will the fundies/creationists shut the fark up!

...of course not

Bah, finding that fossil just creates TWO gaps where there used to be just one! Give it up, you Darwinists! Zeno's Paradox proves that it's impossible for anything to have evolved!

2002-07-03 05:00:22 PM

Code_Archeologist doing a little stretching and checking his equipment making sure he is limber and ready for the ensuing flame war that is to erupt. There is nothing worse than getting a nasty pull or strain in the middle of typing a flame.

2002-07-03 05:02:00 PM
Juda: Ah yes. Thanks for the clarification, wasn't thinking very well. Although I sure would love to see fossil evidence of the human progression (at which stage in the chain does a Paleontologist become an Archaeologist, anyway?).

2002-07-03 05:03:32 PM
Zeno's Paradox is a faulty arguement and has been solved. Come on you creationists you can do better than that. Who's next?

2002-07-03 05:10:51 PM
Kiz: The only thing Zeno's Paradox proved was that Zeno was thoroughly insane. Even if it wasn't a faulty argument, what the hell would it prove?

2002-07-03 05:19:55 PM
There is no proof that evolution has EVER created a whole new species from another one. There are hundreds of holes in the theory of evolution, just as in the theory of creationism. But keep in mind, they are both THEORIES!!

It takes as much faith to believe that evolution is responsible for creating man as it does to believe God did.

People on both sides seem to be closed-minded and refuse to truly listen to alternatives, so it's a ridiculous debate.

2002-07-03 05:27:20 PM
ummm Creationism isn't a theory it's fiction... No more scientifically valid than a good Star Trek novel.

Make mine Monkeys! Let's say it all together my ex-monkey brothers! "No More stupid Adam and Eve stories in Fark!"

2002-07-03 05:33:50 PM
1st: You are confusing a a theory with a hypothosis. A theory is defined by the National Academy of Sciences as, "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses." Meaning that there are proven facts of evolution it is not an unproven hypothosis like the Higgs Boson Theory.
2nd: Saying that evolution cannot show that new species have been created through evolutionary processes is incorrect as well. The birth of at least two new species of finch have been observed breaking off from their parent species in the Galapagos Island chain.

2002-07-03 05:35:25 PM
Well, where is evolution proven? Of course we find fossils that may have been predecessors for other life, but look at Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Of course, most of those are fake, but wow, a mermaid skeleton! Gee, kinda makes me want to believe they existed... And frankly, I dont care how we got here, what matter is that we ARE here, and should live life the way you feel is right, unless of course your Charlie Manson... =)

Check this link out too, was on Fark a bit ago..

2002-07-03 05:35:55 PM
I'm just curious as to how Creationism is a theory. Isn't it a single story that is somehow different from all the other creation stories in all those other 'heathen' religions? How do you know you are right, anyway?

2002-07-03 05:37:29 PM
Middle aged knee walkers are much more fun.

2002-07-03 05:38:31 PM
Give science time, anyway. It will take more than a couple of hundred years to describe or classify the millions upon millions of species that exists\existed over the course of several hundred million years, anyway.

2002-07-03 05:39:35 PM
Hmm... Anyway. anywayanywayanyway...There, that should get it out of my system.
