My boyfriend and I have a zombie contingency plan in case of emergency. Basically, we get lightweight, sharp objects, rendevous at his high-rise office building, barricade ourselves inside, and ride it out. There's enough junk food in the office (video game company) to keep us sustained for weeks.

2006-09-02 05:36:54 AM
It seems odd that we have a zombie emergency plan, yet no earthquake emergency plan, even though we live in the SF bay area. I've lived through a few good earthquakes.

EstroJen - Have you ever heard of many people surviving a good zombie outbreak? It's best to be prepared, man.

that plan didn't work so well in 28 days.

I can't remember, but do dogs turn into zombies? Cause if they don't, I'm safe. Otherwise--toast.

A better plan for zombies is to hit a home depot or a Lowe's first get what you need to and build a fortress from a wal-mart they have plenty of food (eat the perishable stuff first then the frozen since you may not have power long), bottled water, and toliet paper, plus in a good size one you have enough items to make plenty of weapons for any size group all you need is the barricade supplies from the Home depot or Lowe's (your choice or which ever is closer).

If the zombies go down with a shot or hit to the head you got plenty of .22 cal ammo and rifles to clear the zombies amassing at the doors, .22 will go in but won't have the power to leave so they bounce around inside the skull to destroy the brain better.

Other than that I'd put an easy to get into dependable vehicle where the shipments come in, since if the zombies surround and break through the other doors you can try to escape and still be above the zombie's reach to get plenty of clean shots to their heads without them being able to reach you.

My wife said I was crazy, and didn't need to get a gas powered chainsaw. I'd be just fine with an electrical one, she said. I said "But what about zombies? I can't just slay zombies near electrical outlets!"

I need a lighter lawn mower. And a katana.

Charliex, it didn't work because they LEFT the high rise. Look, we all can miss a few meals here and there. I'd be good.

2006-09-02 06:09:57 AM
Deadite, I have easy access to the quarry truck, if you don't know what that is, gis, and also access to large loaders. Perfect vehicles for making it through a city.

However for long distance trips you can armor up just about any car you can find. I have noticed in zombie survival guides junk yars are ignored. They are important places to find material to build safer zombie proof vehicles making you mobile and able to move supplies and people to safer locations faster, ensuring you have a larger force to fight with.

2006-09-02 06:10:30 AM
A trip to the marina and a big ocean going boatwith lots of supplies, not like the little tub in dawn of the dead.

either that or the mall

They missed "Night of the Living Dead", a fine documentary film. The zombie outbreak in Pennsylvania of 1967 was quite a battle.

Barricading yourself in a Wal Mart is a good idea, but the clothes are shiat. The Lowe's or Home Depot part is also a good idea because Wal Mart's hardware is worse than their clothing.

My thoughts: flesh rots quickly, especially in warm weather. Wait out the zombies. Eventually, they will lose the ability to walk/run/crawl. If everybody stays off the streets/out of sight, I figure the zombies will not be able to make "new" zombies, and will quickly rot. A few months, and the zombie plague will be over, and I will be a svelte size 8 as well!

Yeah, I've put WAAAAAAY too much thought into this.

2006-09-02 06:15:57 AM
They had to leave because the zombies were working their way up there and very limited resources, stuck in the top of a high rise with an elevator or a long staircase way out isn't such a great idea, might as well be in cavem unless its a short termer, if there is a fire or loss of water/power, it won't be so good.

2006-09-02 06:19:11 AM
In Shaun of the Dead, the zombies could not climb stairs. I still say being in a storied building is the best way to go, although now I'm thinking on a boat is the best way to go, unless you believe that zombies can walk through water, as they could in "Land of the Dead".

2006-09-02 06:20:55 AM
If they're brain eating zombies in D.C. They'll starve to death.

WaffenSS

Those quarry trucks are great especally if you want to do a "Tremors" style run in or out of a city, alot better than grey hound buses. Junk Yards are great for mobile movement and long lasting outbreaks. You just can't stay in same place more than a week though unless you got better defenses than a old fence and barbed wire.

I unfortunatly don't have too much faith in people in large groups with "dead" relatives trying to eat their brains, so I doubt that people would live long enough without infighting and splitting. So I'm mostly planning for short 6 month infestation with immediate family, all the friends still alive at the time. That alone will be about 50 people if all live, plus they kinda turn to me when wierd things happen so I better have a good plan if zombies show up. 6 months should be long enough for decay to set in (the one thing zombie movies don't show) and legs start breaking off at the thigh.

2006-09-02 06:22:36 AM
shawn of the dead, and land of the dead both had the same ideas with the high rises too, omega man and night of the living dead was some what similar with a fortified house. you either have to leave at some point or they were overcome by sheer numbers and force.

total isolation thats the key.

2006-09-02 06:26:39 AM

2006-09-02 06:26:41 AM
walking under water like land of the dead or pirates of the carribean is a scenario, but they won't be walking out in the middle of the ocean, since they'd be destroyed with the pressure of the deap ocean with no direction abilities and complete darkness and they'd have to get up to the surface, and find you. also the sharks will get them, unless they become zombie sharks like zombie 2 i think it was.

hisphrenic, I lol'd

Oh man, I was looking as a joke some zombie fighting squad, oh man, looking at this guy we might be screwed: http://www.zombiehunters.org/images/seminar.jpg

http://www.zombiehunters.org/gallery.php

Haha, humanity is doomed if people count on those people.

I don't plan on on infighting if I control it. Strict organization. Keep to an organized military structure. All civilians who will not fight are locked down in secure places, and armed. Since I am thinking zombies don't really have heartbeats being dead and all, a device that is inserted into the chest that beeps when the heart stops will be helpful, make it a distinctive sound, so when people hear it they think "zombie! Get em!" Of course everyone would need to get this installed before they are a zombie, but it helps trust in your squad a little more when you know he will be beeping like a freak if he turns into a zombie.

2006-09-02 06:29:40 AM
Let's all agree that 1.) we're up too late, 2.) We have way too much time on our hands to reference zombie movies, and 3.) To all have plans in case of zombie attack.

I agree I am a loser, and should probably concentrate my energy on better things, like, oh say, graduating from college.

2006-09-02 06:29:49 AM
That's why I like where I live charliex 6 miles to the nearest town which has enough hunting families in it that if the town was lost pretty much any house would be good to stop at clear and loot the ammo, and the nearest wal mart is 11 miles away, and it's located outside of the town so you can see a good distance from the roof if there is a horde coming after you. So if all else fails I can just go home from the walmart fortress.

/finally something good from walmart, may not last but its better than nothing

2006-09-02 06:31:04 AM
I dont think the walmart/lowes/home depot would be a good idea, besides using these places for a quick stock-up of supplies. To many people trying to get in with the same idea. (Infected or otherwise.)
I suppose with a well armed team you could attempt to hold said real estate, but a cut and run approach would be best.

WaffenSS: large construction vehicles are the way to go for moving through mass gatherings of zomb's, but the noise they generate would be bringing in everyone of the zomb's for miles. And I am not sold on using them in the cities. To easy to get them hung up in debris or wrecked vehicles. It would be nice to have one out in the countryside though. (With a large supply of diesel of course.)Me and my friends are always on the lookout for what would make the best vehicle after the zombie apocalypse.

Ill add more to this thread. This zombie talk is what I love.

This would have only been about the third time I felt the need to post about something, and you had to get to "zombie sharks" before I could.

Atleast it wasn't started by Rosie O'donnel then all guys would have to fear that the zombies didn't think their ding dongs were ring dings.

For now the outbreak is only limited to bon bons, and books. Thankfully though there is a force on our side they are NO MA'AM

2006-09-02 06:38:14 AM
thebecoming, a team of a loader, and two large quarry trucks would be perfect, basicly loader can be used to move any debri (but quarry trucks can easily just run over most debris, not like there is going to be a lot on the street, just abandoned cars, a quarry truck can drive on roads most cars can't... dad drives them professionally so I have a good idea, lol). Only problem is tires and fuel, but then again that will happen with any car.

Great thing about quarry trucks is you can build forts on them, make them a mobile command post practicly. Height advantage is great, and rigged with maybe the african car flame protection, zombies wont get on it.

Let the zombies come. I am sitting on a military base. I can simply grab what I need in the confusion of the zombie onslaught. I can throw MRE's and water in a bradley along with guns and ammo and cruise on out.

As a native of Vicksburg, MS and a history buff I must say this is new information to me.

/does anyone know where in Vicksburg I can get a tinhat?

2006-09-02 06:47:56 AM
no matter what the strong hold is , you just keep brute force attacking it til you break through and the zombies wipe them out as the people are generally in a small confined area with not enough room to manouver, zombies are usually infectious so they only need to get a few of you.

If you live near the ocean and a marina check out all the big boats first, i'm going for that oracle/ellison bloke that owns a yacht, the ronin. sails are better than just engines too.

isolation works the best i think, but it can work against you if you get sick or need something thats not there, or its the hills have eyes, you just don't want to corner yourself in.

i dunno about the military bases, didn't work in 28 days or tremors either, you run out of ammo and fuel eventually and they just keep coming, save one bullet right ?

2006-09-02 06:49:27 AM
Guys! Guys! Just wait until winter. Zombies are exothermic, they're cold-blooded. Their bodies do not produce any heat on their own, thus when winter comes, they will freeze solid and be immobile. Plus, the freezing and thawing process might just crack them to bits or cause ice crystals to destroy their brains. Either way, when the winter comes, just walk outside and saw their heads off.

And the best weapon you could have besides firearms? A simple hammer. It will easily crush a skull, it's easy to use, it has many other uses besides killing, and it doesn't require any sort of skill or finesse.

Your next bet after that is a screwdriver or an ice pick, but make sure you're wearing enough layers of clothing or hard enough stuff (like leather jackets and a biker helmet) to prevent bites from breaking your skin.

If you live in the South you're pretty screwed though. Despite the abundance of firearms, the winters there are unlikely to freeze zombies for any long period of time.

2006-09-02 06:49:40 AM
The quarry truck is a good idea. All vehicles will have to scavenge fuel. Make sure you have a syphon hose and a manual pump with a long hose to hit up gas station underground storage tanks. Gas pumps run on electricity, and in the event of a prolonged infestation the power might fail.

My theory with zombies is that you need to keep moving. A barricade is an incitement to siege.

Hence, zombie attack = road trip.
