It's more of a display of ignorance of literature than science.

He's thinking of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World". What's Mitt got to worry about, I mean he's an Alpha, for Christ's sake.

Mitt Romney is a psychopath. The only reason he won in Mass. was because the Winter Olympics went so well. There is no way, under any condition, that a man with his extreme viewpoints should be put in change of anything outside of a Mormon temple.

Yeah no kidding it's not like the embryos are taking control of embryonic research.

It's more Huxlean than Orwellian.

Marcus Aurelius: He's thinking of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World".

I came in to say that...but even if he did compare it to AH, he'd be wrong. It's the cloning and genetic tampering that is BNWish.

This comment is to literature as "it's a series of tubes" is to the internet.

Our glorious leadership at it's finest.

Not that I really want to defend the good Senator from Alaska, but at least the tubes thing was an arguable analogy. It was a horrible one, but at least it was there. This is just pulled straight from Romney's ass.

Oh, wait, that's "Mitt" not "Milt"

/My bad.

Romney appears to be positioning himself for the 2008 Republican primaries, when he will need to win over conservative voters to get the party's nomination...

Wow, this reporter calls them like he sees them.

I can see this as Huxleian. It is just a few steps back from the intro of the story. In the book they described the steps involved with the creation of thier society and the initial steps in invetro was key to the creation of the great society.

Too bad he had his antiutopian novels mixed up.

/for stem cell research but in an extended skewed view he does have a point

Did I miss it? Gee, I would think that Fark would immediately greenlight a thread about the new movie "Assassination of a President" which I KNOW several someones would have submitted.

Or are the mods trying to ignore the most embarrassing piece of liberal trash to come along in years?

The word is "dystopian". Just sayin'. The more you know and all that.

Why are the times of posts in this thread out of order?

And I guess Mitt wouldn't like my son, who came to fruition in a lab in Boston...

I often read about Huxley and Orwell when dystopia is referred to on Fark, but has anyone read "We" by Yevgeny Ivanovich Zamyatin (Eugene Zamyatin?

Good book and written long before 1984 or Brave New World.

It's surreal and interesting to compare to some of the things going on today. For example, they have something that is described as oracular in nature. (Kind of like the internet.) There are people who change and erase history in order to make the government look good, and people whose job it is to make sure these things are erased from public memory.

The protagonist is called D-503.

For those of you that enjoyed "Brave New World" or "1984", you will enjoy this one as well. Zamyatin has the tendency to make the audience solve some problems on thier own, rather then spell everything out in the (effective) manner of Orwell. It is also a nice change to see the communist side of "failed utopia" and compare it to reality today.

Check it out.
