He ended up going in a helicopter. Why wasn't this the first option anyway, instead of wanting to create a traffic nightmare?

Even the SS has become dumber with GWB in office.

LOL

Might I suggest using Marine One your majesty?

Why even consider going by car when you have a helicopter at your disposal?

I remember when Deng Xiaoping came to Houston...think it was 1979...He was taken out to Simonton (way west of town) for the rodeo which used to be held every Friday and Saturday night. The Katy Freeway was completely shut down for the motorcade on a Friday evening. For those of you that know Houston, you can only imagine what kind of unholy nightmare that was.

Any of you Houstonians know if they still hold that rodeo?

There we go.

No politician should be allowed to use tax payer money to campaign with unless they all get to, it seems kinda farked up to me...

Shut down the road
Let all those registered voters know that George Allan is to blame!

DIA,

Any of you Houstonians know if they still hold that rodeo?

I don't know about that one, but they still have the huge rodeo downtown.

If you like getting shiatfaced and watching dudes fall off horses, it's the place for you :)

Siminton was really something different. The population was all of 800 on a good day and the rodeo didn't offer big money or anything. It was guys who did it for the love of it. Every weekend.

It's tough to fly around DC, lots of restricted airspace because of the white hou... oh...

Don't you just love people who's passion in life is abusing animals to prove what men they are, and to prove once and for all that we win the fight against nature?

Yup. Especailly enjoy it while drinking warm beer at an outdoor arena. Hence the term "rodeo beer". Come down sometime. You might even fark up and enjoy yourself.

I'd save that kind of talk for cockfights and bullfighting. Rodeos are relatively harmless.

Unless you happen to be the human strapped to the back of a pissed off bull. Then it can be a little dangerous.

When Bush was in Tempe in 2004 for the final debate with Kerry, they closed down roads that had seemingly nothing to do with his route. It took me 2 hours to get home (normally 20-25 minutes. Of course he had to stay in a hotel 2 miles from my house.. so that might have been a factor.

That's farking stupid. If I had a helicopter at my disposal I'd use it every day. Hell, I'd even use it to get to the bathroom.

/I'd also get my interns to blow me whilst riding in it

Should've given the SS the finger while they were at it. That walking penile implant in a suit is always causing the roads to get boned up here in Orlando whenever he comes down to use craploads of taxpayer money to try and bolster his brother's political career.

Closing down the car pool lane and probably causing gridlock for most of the motorists is cheaper?

Think again.

I wouldn't blame it on the administration. I think it's the Secret Services job to get the POTUS where he's going in the safest manner possible, not the cheapest. Since when have you ever seen a President getting on SouthWest airlines to save the people a buck?

2006-08-25 02:01:42 PM
Was the Hero tag broken? I'm sure the thousands of commuters affected appreciated the DOT's response.

2006-08-25 02:01:55 PM
Thank God they said DIAF. Anyone who lives in the Virginia suburbs outside Washington DC will tell you traffic is gridlocked here every day, even with all the lanes open. If they were closed people would end up sleeping in their cars. Rush hour around here seems to start around 3pm and goes until 8pm. And if there is a special event on like a concert at the Nissan Pavilion or a Redskins game, forget about it. You could be in a traffic jam at 11pm at night.

So George Bush is going to "help out" George Allen by showing up at one of his fundraisers?

More like GWB is PUNISHING George Allen by showing up.

Cheaper for whom?

The economic cost of clogging up the freeways for the day is way more than the price of one flight on the Presidential Helicopter.

Oh, but when it comes to screwing over the average people, they don't really count. So let's fark up their commute.

2006-08-25 02:03:03 PM
Maybe he should have just mailed a check for the amount the helicopter trip would cost him. Funds - raised.

I didn't read the article but the logistics of setting up a secure off-airfield landing zone for Marine One is more than a little daunting. Also for all the people that are suprised he wouldn't just take the helicopter everywhere..when weather is a factor he rides the car to and from Andrews.

happens alot.

Bush doesn't need a landing zone. He's a freaking military machine. Remember his carrier landing? Just give him a parachute or let him rappel.

Mr. Clarence Butterworth

On the topic of the macaca, the guy who was called a macaca by George Allen graduated from my school.

Pretty surprising.

Meh. Good for VDOT.

I wonder how that event was. Allen's been described as "Bush without the brains," so I bet it was a showcase of profound oratory.

Dear Leader doesn't need a wimpy parachute! He could leap out of jet fighter, tuck and roll for the landing, and walk away all while eating a piece of KFC extra crispy chicken.

Inasmuch as I don't care for the nickname "Chimpy McFlightsuit," he's not doing enough to live up to it. It could have been a great opportunity for him to show up, rip off his stage flightsuit to reveal a $25,000 tuxedo, and wow the crowd. But no. I'm disappointed.
