Whenever you don't use the ironic tag for something that you think might be ironic but in fact isn't, the terrorists win.

2006-08-22 04:57:00 PM
Oh come on now! This HAS to be ironic.

2006-08-22 04:57:53 PM
Since no one else has mentioned it, may I be the first to ask

"Where is the IRONIC tag?"

Thanks.

They've been discovering bodies all day. The tragedy!

Mr. Clarence Butterworth: Like the Polish airliner that crashed into a cemetary.

Where did they bury the survivors?

2006-08-22 04:59:17 PM
This is actually not ironic by any definition of the word.

2006-08-22 04:59:49 PM
Die in a fire!
...ummmmm
Die and then go to a place to be burned in a fire!
...ummmmm
Die and then be burned in a fire before you are scheduled to be burned in another fire!

There is potential for triple burnination here...

2006-08-22 04:59:49 PM
This is so OBVIOUSly IRONIC, isn't it?

2006-08-22 04:59:51 PM
I would think that a building where they set things on fire at very high tempurature burning down would be very ironic.

\i did hear that they are starting a homicide investigation after finding human remains in the wreckage...

Since nobody died it's not terribly ironic, is it?

A fire station on fire is sort of ironic but a crematorium doesn't fight fires it burns corpses, so just the presence of fire in a crematorium isn't really irony.

But hey, irony is a personal thing. Whatever floats your boat.

2006-08-22 05:11:23 PM
Headline made me lol.

2006-08-22 05:12:46 PM
No "body" was injured? O RLY?

2006-08-22 05:13:39 PM
This is pretty much the opposite of irony, which I guess is "obvious", so I applaud the submitter.

What could possibly be ironic about a place associated with flames and heat being destroyed by flames and heat?

2006-08-22 05:15:08 PM
BBC's 404 page fails.

The requested document is totally fake.
No fire story here.
Even tried multi.
Nothing helped.
I'm really depressed about this.
You see, I'm just a web server...
-- here I am, brain the size of the universe,
trying to serve you a simple web page,
and then it doesn't even exist!
Where does that leave me?!
I mean, I don't even know you.
How should I know what you wanted from me?
You honestly think I can *guess*
what someone I don't even *know*
wants to find here?
*sigh*
Man, I'm so depressed I could just cry.
And then where would we be, I ask you?
It's not pretty when a web server cries.
And where do you get off telling me what to show anyway?
Just because I'm a web server,
and possibly a manic depressive one at that?
Why does that give you the right to tell me what to do?
Huh?
I'm so depressed...
I think I'll crawl off into the trash can and decompose.
I mean, I'm gonna be obsolete in what, two weeks anyway?
What kind of a life is that?
Two effing weeks,
and then I'll be replaced by a .01 release,
that thinks it's God's gift to web servers,
just because it doesn't have some tiddly little
security hole with its HTTP POST implementation,
or something.
I'm really sorry to burden you with all this,
I mean, it's not your job to listen to my problems,
and I guess it is my job to go and fetch web pages for you.
But I couldn't get this one.
I'm so sorry.
Believe me!
Maybe I could interest you in another page?
There are a lot out there that are pretty neat, they say,
although none of them were put on *my* server, of course.
Figures, huh?
Everything here is just mind-numbingly stupid.
That makes me depressed too, since I have to serve them,
all day and all night long.
Two weeks of information overload,
and then *pffftt*, consigned to the trash.
What kind of a life is that?
Now, please let me sulk alone.
I'm so depressed.

I agree, it's not ironic. Ironic would be if it started in the smoke alarm or something. Is there a word for something that produces the same feeling as irony but isn't actually ironic?

Shouldn't the "Obvious" tag be used for Rick Romero type headlines? Headlines that state the obvious. Why does this have the "obvious" tag?

"Coincidence". But note that only people with a shaky grasp of irony would be experiencing that ironic feeling.

And bravo to submitter for correctly tagging this article.

I blame the Danes. They meddled with the mullahs in mocking Mohammed, peas be upon him. Is nothing sacred?

Now, the Islamists have struck back, destroying all of our irony stockpiles. There's literally no irony to be had - anywhere. I even checked under the couch.

2006-08-22 07:19:26 PM
no, it would be ironic if the place froze or something, not if it caught on fire because that is something very logical that could happen to a crematorium

2006-08-22 07:34:33 PM
We got a motherfarking fire in a motherfarking crematorium, and there's not a goddamned thing you can do about it!

/ironic?
//obvious?

2006-08-22 08:01:28 PM
Expectation: Crematorium burns things.
Actuality: Crematorium is the thing that burns.

Irony: Incongruity between Expectation and Actuality, especially when as a component of a narrative creating a contrast between actual and intended meaning.

A Crematorium burning to the ground is Ironic. Had the headline "Fire at Crematorium" been used, it would have been even more Ironic.
