Well, that didn't take too long. The system works!

2006-08-21 03:36:59 PM
who?

2006-08-21 03:37:12 PM
Ooops!

2006-08-21 03:37:37 PM
Son of the biatch. Just remember folks, he gets a trial so you don't have to. I have no love for the guy, but this is an American citizen.

2006-08-21 03:38:05 PM
Isn't it a bit disturbing that every time someone is arrested for terrorism they're held for 5 years or so and then quietly released because there was no evidence they ever had any plan to be anything but insane?

2006-08-21 03:38:58 PM
For those of you that don't know, Padilla was an American citizen who got grabbed by DHS and held for three years without a gharge being filed. During that time he was moved around to avoid a writ of habeus corpus being filed.

Not effective against an insurgency.

2006-08-21 03:39:21 PM
Padilla should go sue crazy. Not just sue crazy, go sue bombing. Like an exploding suing terrorist bomber, only exploding out lawsuits.

2006-08-21 03:39:29 PM
Hey, 2 out of 5 ain't bad. He's still batting 400.

This administration has been making up these plots. It is so farking obvious. There is no such thing as Al Qaida, at least not in the way we think of it. There is no secret organnized club. Only insurgents in the countries we fark up.

2006-08-21 03:39:38 PM
habeas corpus

2006-08-21 03:39:38 PM
Just so we're clear:

It's ok to hold a U.S. citizen for a few years, without access to counsel, and without charging him.

Then, when you're about to be biatch-slapped by the courts, all you have to do is throw some bullshiat charges at him, and everything's hunky-dory!

I love it :)

served prison terms for juvenile murder in Illinois and gun possession in Florida. He converted to Islam when he moved to Egypt in 1998, taking the name Abdullah al-Muhajir

But I trust the Bush admin. 100%. They should be in charge of determining who gets charged with what, and we should never allow terrorists to have lawyers.

"Fair and speedy trial" surrenders

2006-08-21 03:40:28 PM
I thought that the article said that 1 of 3 charges were dismissed, not 3 of 5, as suggested by submitter. Perhaps I have poor reading comprehension in my speed reading of the article. I guess that I'm off to check PACER.

2006-08-21 03:40:32 PM
Damn activist judges!

2006-08-21 03:40:59 PM

2006-08-21 03:41:10 PM
Wow, did the Bush Administration mess this one up. Arrested 4+ years ago, still no conviction.

2006-08-21 03:41:15 PM
And people wonder why the "liberals" want these crazy things like trials and rights and stuff.

2006-08-21 03:42:10 PM
Dude, this is just sad on a ton of levels.

2006-08-21 03:42:23 PM
No worries... Just call someone an "Enemy Combatant" and they become unperson.

2006-08-21 03:42:24 PM
Whatever happened to speedy trials?

2006-08-21 03:42:25 PM
At least the USA has not gone the way of a facist police state.

Imagine if the "land of the free" just arrested people and held them for years without any charges or evidence...

.....

..
.

oh shiat..

2006-08-21 03:42:32 PM
Well, if he wasn't hell-bent on murdering and terrorizing innocent Americans when they first arrested him, he sure as hell is now...

Set him free and send him on home! =)

Nice. The Warts on Terror indeed.

Damn. Tried and convicted for murder as a juvenile. Sounds like a nice kid. Misunderstood perhaps...

5 years for Muslim man who went to Canada on Sept 12, 2001, released without charges:

Wait, I don't understand. Why was the judge in jail the last 3 years?

2006-08-21 03:44:51 PM
This is the same government that can take all your money because you have it in your car.

2006-08-21 03:44:51 PM
Is there really even a question here? I think conservatives are in agreement on this one. I don't care if you're a pipe hitting gangbanger from Harlem who grew up in Afghanistan. If you're a US citizen, you have rights that shouldn't be budged on. It doesn't mean they're letting you go, but they damn well better charge your ass.

At least we can all rest easier knowing that Big Brother is listening to our communications without so much as probable cause, much less a warrant, these days.

why do you people care so much? most of you are white, you'll never encounter what these people go through.

yet another White Guilt outcry. Unreal.

The two remaining charges:

-- conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, and providing material support to terrorists.

I HATE this legalistic double jeopardy bullshiat.

So, what your saying is that he DID IT? and he Planned to do it? ok??????? How is that TWO crimes?

2006-08-21 03:45:37 PM
So, can we have our 6th amendment back, or does this administration have a few more rounds of gang raping left to do to it?
