A series of devastating hurricanes have ripped up orange groves, damaging trees and reducing output.

While that is true, a more serious problem is rising land prices. Who wants to take the risk of farming and having your entire livlihood wiped out by one storm, when a developer will give you a bazillion bucks for your land right now? If you are in your 50's - 60's, and your kids don't want to farm, it's better to cash out now. And many are doing that.

The US national hurricane centre in Miami has warned of another very active hurricane season with as many as four hurricanes expected to hit the US before the end of November.

The same people that can't predict if it will rain tomorrow are pleased to announce the number of hurricanes we will have in 2 or 3 months. At the beginning of the season, they predicted 13 major hurricanes. So far this year - nada.

That would suck. I drink a glass a day. And I'm already paying $3.99 per carton (2L). Of course, I suppose that's only $0.01 in "real" money.

The only time I ever drink orange juice is when it's marked down to $1.99/half gallon, because it's close to the expiration date.

I wouldn't drink much of it even if was cheap, because of all the pesticides and crap they spray around.

I don't drink a gallon of orange juice to go to work every day.

/A gallon of minute maid orange juice is $5.89, but it lasts for about a week.

/A gallon of premium is $3.60, and it lasts for 1 day.

Too bad Arizona can't help much anymore. Most of our orange groves in the Valley of the Sun have been replaced by McMansions and strip malls.

Street Price for Oranges?

When I lived in LA, there would be people standing in the medians at major intersections selling bags of fruit (standard price was $1 and so the real cost was how much fruit was in the bag). These folks usually had good prices, but the grocery store prices were no too far off. Squeezing and drinking fresh OJ or grapefruit juice was often price competative with frozen concentrate and was cheaper than buying juice in cartons.

What is the current street price for juice oranges in LA?

Does Florida have street fruit? What is the price there?

Speaking of prices rising.. when the fark did farking soup get so pricey? I understand shipping costs and such, but damn, it's rediculous.

Any Farker 25 and over should know this. This is REQUIRED watching. Likewise, even if you didn't grow up with the movie, Animal House is required as well. They should make this movie mandatory in high school.

I'll be worried when I drink 20 gallons of orange juice a week just to get around to everywhere I need to. And don't have the option of substituting apple juice. So, does this mean we'll be invading Florida soon?

2006-08-20 08:47:54 PM
Guess what sweeties... Orange County was called that.. but now you would be hard pressed to find an orange grove there..
Developers have ORANGE PWNED the state.
Why grow oranges when you can sell the shiat for millions.
