TFA: The ordinance, passed Monday, bans tubers from using containers of 5 fl. oz. or less.

Another, "rather than enforce existing laws..." I am so sick of this xit. I've had it up to here. No, a little higher, yeah, there.

2006-08-16 02:07:47 PM
Anyone else read the headline and think "WTF? Tubers as in the white stringy roots?" A local government was defeated by white stringy roots?

I missed out this year too.

/Apple River, I miss you!

We do a lot of tubing here in Phoenix, on the Salt river. Just out this past weekend; it looked a lot like that picture a few posts back...

I don't see jello shots out there. Just lots of beer. And marshmallows. Lots of marshmallows.

wait... their concern is people tossing their garbage in the river, right? so why not just crack down on that, you know your actual concern, instead of making up new laws?

Are river tubers kinda like brown trout?

2006-08-16 02:13:57 PM
it's not really about the garbage people. They think jello shots lead to increased viewing of boobies.

And they're completely right.

2006-08-16 02:14:28 PM
only when we are ready to ban all fun will we truly be FREE

2006-08-16 02:14:28 PM
Just ban peeing on yourself while tubing. That will cut down drinking.

I hear cops were ticketing people like crazy on the Comal for the "noise ordinance." Pretty much if you were playing a radio they went after you. We floated the Guadalupe farther upstream than usual this year -- didn't see a cop the entire time. On the downside, there weren't as many hot women either. But after about 10 beers and several shots from the water bottle full of Jack D, they were all looking beautiful.

The part upstream runs through more campgrounds and less private backyards. The whole police state downstream is stemming from complaints made by the rich people that spent big money on these expensive riverside vacation homes, but don't want all the loud, drunken people floating through their backyards.

It's kind of like when people buy homes in the neighborhood next to the airport, but then constantly complain to the city council that the airport is too loud.

I tubed the Apple River as part of my bachelor party a few weeks ago. It was fun, but damn the river was low this year, even with all the people peeing into it.

Politicians just don't know what to do. Obviously, you can't ban alcohol or Jello-O. Instead, they should do what they do best: TAXING. Simply tax everyone to death. This is the OBVIOUS answer to everything! Geeze. That was easy!

There are few forces on Earth as unstoppable as a colelge age person wanting to get drunk.

They need to accept drinking on the river as an "act of God".

No, it's not even a little like that. I've looked at water-side property and thought "how often do boats go through here? How polluted is it? Is it going to smell? How far will it rise when it rains?"

I've never wondered how many pasty white folks will be floating by once a year. Now I know.

With the airport, you pretty much see what you're getting.

I have bad news for all of the tubers. When rich people don't like something they usually succeed in getting rid of it. Hope you like tubing upstream.

Every year myself and friends do a beer float down there and
every year they do something to break us.

One year they were ticketing people if you did not wear a
lifevest and were in anything other than a tube.
Group in a low water point, so I got out of my tube and pulled a raft over it, the cops were watching all of this.
I sat down on the raft for a sec, to rest. Mind you the raft was still stuck on the bottom of the river, and they ticketed the people in the raft.

No matter what we (me and the people in the raft) said, they claimed I broke the law because I did not have a lifevest. Felt really bad for them and offered to pay the ticket, but they were pissed off and were going to fight it.

That city does everything possible to get all of your money. Even if they have to use the ticket card. While I don't have a problem with keeping things safe, they really have gone overboard with all these "laws"

My house is on the Suwannee. Every summer it's the same thing: Sitting around, doing whatever and someone will come up to the back door wanting to use my bathroom. And you know it's a duece, or they'd just stay in the river (which is already nasty). Now being that I own both sides of the river and I have vested riparian rights I could put a fence across it but I don't becaus eI like the tuber-girls. Even when they come to the house for a deuce, I guess. But damn, you dudes just keep paddlin'!

How about razor wire 18 inches off the water?
