"He says exposure to music is causing more cases of musical hallucination, where a song "plays" constantly in the head."

I'm Henry the Eighth I am,
Henry the Eighth I am, I am.
I got married to the widow next door,
She's been married seven times before ...

(Second verse, same as the first !)

It's not the Ipod that makes you go CrAzY, it's the internet.

Good thing I have a Lyra instead of an iPod. It's almost just as good. (better, if you buy some kickass earphones)

I've had that before. I would hear the opening few measures of "Battle of Evermore" by Led Zeppelin, but my radio wasn't on. I thought it was coming from the next door neighbors, and then I realized that they think Rrock is "devil's music" so that was right out. It was pretty disturbing the first few times that the "phantom music" played after I realized that it wasn't real, but I got used to it evenutally and even came to enjoy it.

Hallucinations aren't always disturbing. My grandmother experienced hallucinations as a side effect of her Parkinson's medication, or as a symptom of the condition as well. A "baby fox" visited her every once in awhile that no one else could see. She saw it as a pleasant surprise once she got used to it. We could tell when she was being visited because it would cheer her up.

With all that being said, I'm not going to stop listening to my music non-stop. No big deal. I can deal with my iPod making my crazy.

"He predicted the condition will become more common as people are inundated with music from their iPods, radios and TVs, plus music played in public places. "

so I guess music is new to the radio and tv...and in public places?

You want to make sure nobody hijacks a plane? Simple. everyone strips naked. They have ALL body hair shaved off. Remove all the seats from the plane, strap everyone down to metal bars on the floor. Mandatory body cavity searches for everyone boarding the plane, to include pilot and flight crew. passengers are sedated for the duration of the flight, no exceptions. Nobody is allowed any luggage.

There. You're plane is now totally safe from being hijacked.

/Remember there is fun stuff in the tech pages too.
//Now continue being monitored for ilegal activity.
///Yes we can all smell that lovely aroma of something that smells like grass burning.

I call it the Ipod, because frankly it's a farking proper noun. Just because you want to be trendy doesn't mean I am going to throw away what I have gained via countless worthless educational years of pointless crap.

I claim that Apple Corp. in the US is subject to English syntax.

So I call it the farking Ipod.

If you don't like it, then maybe you should eat a spoonfull of sugar.

My musical insanity has already been acheived in the days before iPods, when I listened to Weird Al's "Christmas at Ground Zero" 27 times in a row on a Walkman in December of '96. After that, I'm not afraid of anything!

I call shinanigans. I've been listening to my MP3 player daily for about 6-8hrs a day since I bought it 3 years back... I still don't hear music in my head.

Now, the mystery people I see in my house is a different storie. I still dont know where they came from. Maybe its all the movies I watch are causing me to see phantom movies everywhere

2006-08-12 11:54:04 PM
Hey! Wha' happen to my kitty-kat pic?

It's all askew...

/sad now

iPods make you crazy? well...he may have a point. Look at the comments from recent airline travel threads.
"If I can't take my iPod on the plane, I'll go batshiat INSANE!"
"I'd rather drive 18 hours each way than take a plane trip without my iPod"

I can't afford an iPod. I can't even afford a month of TotalFark. And I so want to join TotalFark and have an iPod. One of those things can be fixed by people in this thread.

PSP is shiat.

I'm not sure how Sony attempted to call it a handheld game system. It's more of a general media device. There aren't any good games for it, and there's a huge pile of stupid movies which were pointless because you could only watch them on the PSP, not on a portable DVD player, home DVD player, computer, etcetera. Now the DS is a handheld game system.

/rant over

It's a brand name, actually, you should spell it how it's supposed to be spelled.

In May, a Bristol audiology expert warned that listening to music at high volume could cause tinnitus and inner ear damage

That's why he gets paid the big bucks.

Big N, little Y, Big farking Q! God, I love that Q, don't you?
iPod is a proper name, so spell it properly.

I'm inherently against having music accessible at all times just as I don't want to be available by telephone at all times. Technology is swell, but I like to leave room for the silence and the sounds of life, now and then.
