Men_R_Jerks: You live you learn. Not everything is perfect, and great the way our parents make them out to be. Madpiper does have some good advice though. Everybody has been burned before by someone. Why is everyone teeing off on Men_Are_Jerks. All she did was biatch about her deadbeat ex. If it's just her name I can tell you that there a lot more insulting and offensive names here.
I don't want to start a big battle here, I just don't understand why she's under so much attack. But then I am a jerk and I'll never understand anything.

This sounds very suspicious. All they have is the store owner's word that they guy was trying to rob him. It seems just as likely that they were in an argument over something and the store owner shot him. The guy would have to *really* stupid to try to hold up a gun shop with a knife.

Hell, if I had a name like Women_are_dumb_biatches I would be pretty unpopular. I just tried to help her from having a hard time. She's new and probably doesn't know what a big can of worms she's opening here. (Although, she could have been a lurker for a long time. If that's the case, she's got a huge set of iron cojones).
Regardless, like Rabbito said, she seems really bitter towards men and that won't get her very far here.

We went to my parents house for the holidays, 1998. I go to the garage to get the snow shovel, and there he is WITH MY YOUNGER SISTER up against the wall, doing the nasty.

A next day he fled, leaving behind everything. Not seen or heard from since.

I am, however, right now seeing a pretty good guy.

There might be a "dumbass" tag deserved here for the gun store owner. He obviously does not use enough gun for the task. Shooting a person in the chest with the correct caliber should leave them a little worse off than unconsious.

Cardinarky - Ballistically speaking, your average handgun is a pretty poor weapon. The great majority of handgun shooting victims live to tell the tale. A rifle or shotgun is much more likely to kill somebody.

The fact that the owner shot this dumbass only once, and then (most likely) immediately called 911 to get the paramedics, probably accounts for the fact that he's still alive. This will bode well for the shopkeeper once the inevitable lawsuit by this idiot (or his equally idiotic family) comes down the pike. "But, you're honor, I shot him only once when he pulled a knife on me, and I was calling 911 a half-second later!" will probably get him off scott-free in the civil suit.

All in all, this shopkeeper's smarter then he looks.

This kinda thing happened in Toledo a long time ago. A gun store owner refused to sell to some gang members, so they told him that they would come back later that night to kill him and take ALL the guns. He called some buddies, and sat in the store armed to the teeth.

The gang members drove a van through the side wall to surprise them and went down quickly in a hail of gunfire.

Moral of the story: DO NOT threaten the owner of a gun store.

This sort of reminds me of a shooting we had here when two 30 year brothers who owed a rich farmer several hundred thousand (around 300,000 I recall) bucks and figured it would be easier to kill him than pay him off. The old fellow lived by himself on his farm and didn't have a telephone. They drove onto his property and opened fire on him while he was sitting on his porch. Well, he may of been old, and he may of had heart trouble and arthritis but there was nothing wrong with his aim: he gunned down both of them with his trusty hunting rifle. Moral of the story: never underestimate old people who are WWII vets.

Some dumbass with a bunch of drugs and a handgun got nervous when he got questioned by the MPs at the gate to the Marine base in Quantico a couple of months ago. Instead of backing up and leaving he fled on to base and tried to run over 2 MPs. He was surprised when armed men chased him down and shot him.
