One day, when these kids are 15, they are going to sit around getting high with their friends and telling stories and someone is going to tell this.

And then one of their friends is going to say "You TOO!?!"

Then they are going to have unprotected sex, have a kid of their own and leave the kid in a toy store for good. The Story will appear on Fark.

The End.

toys r us vs tv. lesser of 2 evils both made in hong kong.
2002-06-28 08:00:53 AM
Parents have been using malls as corrals for their teens for decades.
2002-06-28 08:06:48 AM
Twas ever thus. Some people shouldn't be trusted to care for a goldfish. Let alone a child. My old man used to take me to bars. I'd rather have been left in a toy store.
2002-06-28 08:07:39 AM
Sheesh.....these parents should just dump the little buggers off at the neighborhood public school and let school officials entertain and feed them.
2002-06-28 08:08:07 AM
There used to be 2 kids who got dropped off at the computer store I worked at. They caused all sorta mischeif, 8 and 10 years old. Judging from what they would tell the cops when we'd call them to get the kids, the parents didn't care.

Why not just drop them off at an orphange and eliminate the middleman (retail store)?
2002-06-28 08:08:36 AM
Oh so that is how they get abducted! I thought it was from their house at gun point with their sister in the room. This makes much more sense. Stupid parents. Go back to at least using the TV and violent video games as a babysitter. They won't kidnap and molest your kids.

It leaves an opportunity for kids to fall into the hands of ... sexual predators easily."

What the fark? What is witht he dramatic pause? I feel "DUM DUM DUUUUUUM!" should have been inserted there.
2002-06-28 08:11:40 AM
We'll see this headline soon :

"Child left at charity shop while Mom goes for groceries. Child sold for $10 by mistake."
2002-06-28 08:11:51 AM
i work at a video game store, and parents use my store as a babysitter alllll the time. we want to put up a sign that says "unattended children will be sold"

HAHAHA but you need to actually do it a couple times to really get the message across
2002-06-28 08:14:43 AM
This isn't new at all. I remember hearing my mom biatch about this in the bookstore she works at 10 years ago. Mostly yuppie scum parents who let their little monsters run wild - Hell, someone else will clean up the mess, right?
2002-06-28 08:15:31 AM
Solution: Don't let these people have children.

end troll
2002-06-28 08:26:58 AM
Parents could also be charged with wrongs to minors or misdemeanor child abuse, both of which carry possible jail time, fines, court appearances and involvement with Social Services.

Then have at it. Parents need to be PARENTS, not "custodial units."
2002-06-28 08:27:32 AM
Not just toy stores. I run a video game store RIGHT NEXT to a supermarket. Needless to say, I don't keep the controllers plugged in in my demo units, or they'd never leave!
2002-06-28 08:30:17 AM
Hey, it worked for Adam Walsh, right?

And I here you Gaambit. I managed a Babbage's after college for a few months and the only people who came in 90% of the time were 10 year olds who wanted to play DOA2 for free.
2002-06-28 08:30:32 AM
TV is more gooder.
2002-06-28 08:32:40 AM
<IMG src="linton.j pg"

It takes a village to raise a child.
2002-06-28 08:35:27 AM
I worked for Babbages for 6 1/2 years. It was not at all unusual for parents to drop off their kids at the mall for the day during the summer with 2.00 for the arcade and 3.00 for lunch. Needless to say, by 10:15 they had spent their money and were in the store wanting to play games for free.

(Just out of curiosity, any other Farkers ever worked for Babbages? And which stores. I was at 133,153,178, and 1484)
2002-06-28 08:38:54 AM
The stores could abduct and sell the children.
2002-06-28 08:41:21 AM
Mandatory sterilization
2002-06-28 08:43:36 AM
Sell them as cheap slave labor.

Oh, and vote for me?
2002-06-28 08:51:07 AM
Hey, how about this for an idea:

Don't farking have kids if you don't want to take care of them!

You have to have a license to fish, drive a car, or sell insurance. But you can create all the people you want and unleash them on the world, no matter how incompetent you are.

I'm all for human rights and freedom, but seriously, there are a lot of people having kids with no business doing so.
2002-06-28 08:51:19 AM
"It's extremely dangerous," said Sgt. Michael Anderson. "It leaves an opportunity for kids to fall into the hands of ... sexual predators easily."

Announcing the availability of these children in, say, a TV news story is another great idea...

(BTW, why is voting enabled?!?)
2002-06-28 09:00:41 AM
Bring them to the pound.

Vote for me!!
2002-06-28 09:03:19 AM
Why didn't my parents think of that?
2002-06-28 09:06:19 AM
Actually, this particular store is one of our biggest customers.

I hope the little brats are not stealing or damaging any of our merchandise.

Firstmattinspace - Is your company the one that makes the Hello Kitty vibrators?
2002-06-28 09:12:23 AM
Ahh...Gord did a great bit on this....
2002-06-28 09:13:43 AM
Hehe. Gord was the first thing I thought of when I read the headline. :-)
2002-06-28 09:13:57 AM
so? I grew up with a TV and I turned out TV.
2002-06-28 09:17:51 AM
I had this idea sometime last week: Why not charge parents a breeding fee before they're allowed to start bangin away to make these little monsters? Nothin too high, maybe like $30,000. Considering most people put more thought into buyin their new SUV, maybe they'd take a little more time if they had to make in investment in the kid. Put the money towards fixing up governmental property the kid will fark up/live in once he's grown up into a little criminal.
2002-06-28 09:20:25 AM
Spamzilla - For some reason I thought that was hilarious.
2002-06-28 09:20:39 AM
Its all zoning. Toy stores and trailer parks. Atleast it wasn't Wal*Mart. Can you imagine? Whatever.
2002-06-28 09:27:15 AM
Andonbray: it's always time for a Homer quote.
2002-06-28 09:30:05 AM
I restate my earlier comment from the Walmart post: One of the great injustices of the universe is that one of the easiest things to do is get pregnant. (unless you're actually trying to, of course)
2002-06-28 09:31:46 AM
I've always found it pretty hard to get pregnant.
2002-06-28 09:31:46 AM
"Mom, what was I like as a child?"

"Oh, honey, you'll have to ask the nanny about that."
2002-06-28 09:33:27 AM
Those kids could have it worse. Could have gotten dropped off at a Catholic church for the day.
2002-06-28 09:42:40 AM
Labman, I used to work at Babbages stores 322,249,319 and 224.. of them.. only 224 is still around i think.
2002-06-28 09:42:56 AM
firstmattinspace: My neice loves that stuff. I saw at least 4 things on that site she already has.

Spamzilla: That is really funny!
2002-06-28 09:47:22 AM
I'll bet these are yuppie parents doing this too..
2002-06-28 09:53:43 AM
CygnusTM, I was thinking the same thing. Would-be David Westerfields all over Denver are likely putting together abduction plans as we speak.
2002-06-28 10:05:06 AM
My father once told me: "You can have a life, or you can have children."

I think truer words have never been spoken, but most parents seem to think that kids are a part-time investment, and somebody else can be responsible for them. Wrong. You put them here, they're made out of you, what makes you think that anyone else wants anything to do with your spawn? Just showing up doesn't earn you any special rights.

Parents suck. That's why I'm not one (and my father's advice rings in my head every day when I see my friends with kids of their own). I like my life, and I'm not trading it in for some ingrate kid.
2002-06-28 10:07:51 AM
Hmmm...since this is a Denver newspaper, so it wouldn't surprise me if the parents of Eric Harris or Dylan Klebold also used toy stores as babysitters.
2002-06-28 10:08:30 AM
NamelessOne, I know that feeling. of the ones I worked at, only 153 and 133 are still around. I was purged during the bankruptcy in 1995 (I think it was 95, wasn't it ? I'm getting forgetful.)
2002-06-28 10:11:35 AM
Whenever store clerks asked me where my parents were I'd say "They're in a heaven helping jesus build my tree fort!" Thank god my mom was usually drinking banana boat floaters at T.G.I. Fridays and too drunk to come looking for me or I might have gotten busted.
2002-06-28 10:11:51 AM
Maybe the grocery store next door should consider putting in a child care facility. One of the larger chains where I live has exactly that. The parents drop off their kids while they shop and if there is a probelm with the child then the parent can be paged.

Regarding the other comments about teens at malls, I'm curious. Didn't any of you go to hang out at malls when you were a teen? I know I did and that was many many many (you get the point) moons ago. It wasn't because my mother wanted to get rid of me, I wanted to go. My daughter does the same thing now too. Although I don't let her spend all day there, I will allow her to go for 2-3 hours on a Friday or Saturday night. Beats the local under 21 dance club where little sluts give blow jobs between parked cars and ecstasy is in abundance.
