Maher had to issue an apology after he called the US forces "cowardly" compared to the Sept. 11 terrorists

sigh. He did not call the US Forces cowardly. He was referring to our government being cowardly because the people in the govt were not doing any fighting, rather they sat in their cushy chairs and ordered others to do it.

I was watching that episode and was stunned at how it was twisted the next day by Ari Fleischer.

Bill Mahr liberal? You're crazy.

2002-06-28 07:29:46 AM
Wrong Vengar, I am far more scary than that.

As we say here, scratch a liberal and find a Tory (British Conservative)

and he isn't jewish.

[damn the flood control! damn it!]

Sorry to dissapoint.

You on the other hand have just been oustanding!

Those grammar flames just keep me on the edge of my seat.

Bill Maher is the coward, not the US troops. Here's my last memory of his show, which was the last time I watched it:

Republican primaries, live from San Diego. Chris Rock is in San Diego, interviewing people. One of the panelists in the studio was a dark-haired woman. She was polite, open minded, articulate, and a Republican. She was willing to discuss other people's views and see them from the other person's perspective.

I was amazed because she was a pleasant guest, and moderate and open-minded.

Anyway, Chris Rock starts calling her a biatch and ho and making fun of her. She didn't even say anything to him or do anything to deserve it. No woman does, but even if she were being a bigoted nazi as some Jesse Helms type of Republicans are prone to do, the slurs she took from Chris Rock were uncalled for.

Chris Rock reduced her to tears and humiliated her on national TV in a cruel and selfishly insecure manner.

Now Bill Maher is supposed to be the mediator. He's supposed to keep order while making it enjoyable. But he's semi-nervously laughing along, then joining in like a bully coward. He didn't have the balls himself to confront her, but he did when Chris Rock got her crying. He also didn't have the balls to tell Chris to shut up and that he'd crossed the line of decency.

Chris Rock is a moron, and I have never patronized him since. If he were in a movie I was interested in seeing, I would pay for a different movie. He's just an insecure bully, and an embarassment to men and humanity.

Even worse is Bill Maher. He should have stuck up for an innocent GUEST, not joined along.

He's the real coward. I won't miss him. His show was a bunch of liberals patting themselves on the back. Even if a conservative had a valid point, instead of debate the facts they would just go to childish remarks...however any conservative dumb enough to go on that show deserves what they get.

Good Riddance

If that's British Conservative, I'd hate to see British Liberal.

Even if a conservative had a valid point

...which rarely, if ever happens.

Ann Coulter can't even hawk her damn book without looking like an incoherent nutjob on TV. She makes Tucker Carlson look like Einstein.

The reason so many conservatives don't go on TV or take on Carville is because they have no sac, but they continually pussy out and blame the "liberal" media.

Buncha crybabies.

2002-06-28 07:43:26 AM
I never liked the show. Half the guests had no clue what they were talking about, and he seems like an ass.
He never really debated on the show anyway, whenever he wanted to win the conversation he would throw out some seemingly prescripted joke that would make all the sheep in the audience clap and such which would drown out the idiot guests who had no clue what they were talking about.

2002-06-28 07:44:41 AM
Ironbar, I saw Coulter on TV yesterday pimping her book. She couldn't make it through a whole interview without throwing a fit and spouting off about Liberals this and liberals that.

This was on both GMA, and (I believe) MSNBC.

She basically just did a good job of showing how worthless she is.

I think the pinnacle of political/social satire is Backberner on the (Australian) ABC.

I will accept no rebuttal. If you argue with me, I won't be listening. :-P

I want to have Peter Berner's love-child and that is all there is to it.

On Crossfire last night, even Tucker Carlson had to almost literally tell her to cool off because she was acting wacky, and Tucker is one of the few coherent conservatives.

What I noticed on Politically Incorrect was that conservative guests were much more inclined to start whining like little biatches when they couldn't defend their positions, and complained constantly about "getting ganged up on".

Hey dumbasses, if your opinion is worth defending, you can handle being ganged up on.

That's one of the very things she was crying about...that Liberals gang up on Conservatives and don't let them make a point.

That and something about Liberals not respecting Conservatives.

In better news, I just heard on the news that Clear Channel stock drop 13%. What a great thing to start the day with! :)

Oh, and Happy Bogan Day!!! to all you Aussie Farkers.

They're all parroting bull-patties verbatim without thought, and when Maher would put a conservative on the spot with a pointed question, you got sputtering and backpedaling.

"You took my words out of context" is no excuse, you either said what you said and stand by it, or you're member of the Limbaugh army where facts take a back seat.

The laughs never stop!

Ann Coulter may be a raving lunatic, but I'd do her.

And there was much rejoicing. Yaaaaaaay. Bill Maher sucks

"I don't like bagels."

"Why do you hate black people so much?"

and why is this "sad" ? that show sucked

2002-06-28 08:28:28 AM
BigAlWell, I've heard the line up for his final show is:
Michael Moore, Larry Miller, Tim Robbins, and Genevieve Wood.

That was last night.

According to ABC's Web site, the lineup for the last show (tonight) will be:
Columnist Ann Coulter (!); Comedian Christopher Tim Reid; Columnist Arianna Huffington; Actress Michelle Phillips

And next week ABC will be rerunning some of his old ones. Barbara Olson will be on the July 1 show.

I lost all respect for Bill Mahar after the elections. He had stated a few times on his show that he was a Libertarian. He even had Harry Browne on at least once. Then after the election, someone asked him who he voted for. I was expecting him to say Harry Browne. Who does he vote for -- Ralph Nader! I cannot imagine anyone who is more UN-libertarian than Ralph Nader. Mahar is apparantly just making shiat up as he goes along.

I guess the only thing he really likes about Libertarians is they are pro-drug. Other than that, he must have no concept of what Libertarians stand for.

Good lord man, why? Her voice is deeper than mine and I'll bet her Adam's apple is bigger than mine too.

Bill Maher is a smart guy and will find other work. It's a loss, but temporary.

Funny all these people who can't stand him. But I hope you all understand that his show was cancelled because he said something very true, only politically incorrect. He has balls and what he said stands. Too bad ABC doesn't have any balls.

2002-06-28 08:33:15 AM
If you want a true definition of Libertarian, I suggest you read On Liberty by J.S. Mill.

The proper use of the word is vastly different to the way it gets thrown around in these discussions.

I just love when conservatives and liberals square off on a subject that really has nothing to do with politics. The show was owned by ABC. Bill Maher was never able to recover from that ill advised comment about "cowardly" after 911. People wrote letters, complained, stopped watching, stopped buying the advertisers products. ABC looks at the bottom line and cancels the show...Bye Bye Bill. Still, he is a tool though.

2002-06-28 08:44:48 AM
Jimmy Kimmel said on Howard Stern a few weeks ago that he has that's going to fill that time slot. It'll be a mid-season launch after the Super Bowl.

Prolly no Girls on Trampolines though.

ABC should let Michael Moore have his time slot. TV Nation was a far better show than Politically Incorrect could have ever hoped to be. Unfortunatley the sponsors never liked it because it told too much truth about how corperations work.

No, his show was a bunch of morons: actors, entertainment "news" television hosts, and associated idiots who had stupid opinions and no grasp on the issues, and won arguments by obnoxiously appealing to idiot crowds who cheer anything and everything. A caustic, foulmouthed idiot.

2002-06-28 09:11:47 AM
No tears here. I remember his politics before Clinton, even though being young at the time. He was a much different man, and then as soon as the impeachment came he rode it, changed his show, and sold out to ABC. Good riddance to a phony, who's been giving real libertarians a bad name.

2002-06-28 09:23:50 AM
Sad indeed, the best show on television is no more.

2002-06-28 09:25:16 AM
The concept was ruined by having a lame host.It could have been a lot more.

2002-06-28 09:50:40 AM
It's funny how many farkers say they hated Politically Incorrect, it's basically a fark flame war on TV. Sans Drew and mods.

2002-06-28 09:51:30 AM

Look..it's the worlds oldest cliche, flopping just for me...

Only in america would a show called Politicaly Incorrect get cancelled...for being politically incorrect. What the fark is wrong with you people?

2002-06-28 10:01:24 AM
YAY! BILL MAHER IS A PRICK!!!!

2002-06-28 10:07:51 AM
Seems I read that he was cancelled due to dropping ratings and after all, that IS what drives network television, ratings. I was never a fan but I am not gonna get into this one any further. Love that tiny violin playing the saddest song...cute.

2002-06-28 10:09:40 AM
there was no real hit to his ratings.

2002-06-28 10:20:46 AM
This is sad...and he wasn't drop due to lack of ratings(mentioned it yesterday). The advertisers just dropped him.

2002-06-28 10:25:58 AM
I disagreed with him on a lot of issues, but having a forum where incorrect things (hey, kinda like Fark) is an important thing in this overly PC country. Sad to see you go, Bill.

2002-06-28 10:27:35 AM
Correct you are Bill, I went back and did a little more research on zap2it and indeed it was sponsorship. Apologies all around! =)

2002-06-28 10:31:20 AM
Baldactor: If Bill Maher has balls I would like to take my microscope, find them, and plant my steel toes squarely in their place. I don't think he's smart or funny. Someone should give him a t-shirt with a bulls-eye font and back.

2002-06-28 10:37:53 AM
Whatever. Liked the concept of the show, but I can't feel sorry for him. You can say a lot of politically incorrect things without pissing off your sponsors.

I think he was just trying to say something controversial, for the sake of being controversial. His statement wasn't exactly well thought out. How many people in government (I mean any government, in any country), the decision makers, are on the front lines of a war???

How many people in government (I mean any government, in any country), the decision makers, are on the front lines of a war???

No farking kidding.

"Why wasn't Bush in the trenches with the soldiers huh?!?!"

2002-06-28 11:16:09 AM
I, for one, will miss the show. One of the few shows on TV I made a point to watch.

And FWIW, he was right. It does take balls to deliberately end your own life for something you believe in. I didn't say the terrorists were right, just that they had balls.

And as for the cowardice of our own officials... has Cheney come out of his "undisclosed location" yet? He went in after 9/11 and barely hear of him any more. Maybe he's just busy running the shadow government.

2002-06-28 11:25:09 AM
Despite some posts defiling Bill Maher and his show for being (insert insult here)just because you don't agee with him, it looks like even his demise has sparked a heated debate over numerous political issues and pundits. That was exactly the point of his show - to get people talking about issues. Granted, Maher had his flaws (havig Chris Rock, a self-proclaimed racist, on his show being the worst), but the bottom line is he made Corporate America (especially Disney) nervous. That's why he got cancelled. It wasn't any particular thing he said, and it wasn't ratings. He, like Michael Moore, didn't play step'n fetch it with the corporate Fat Cats and they won't put up with that. It's a shame the show got cancelled.

2002-06-28 11:30:06 AM
PI was the only good on based on politics. He had a great show and will be missed.

For those of you who just say he sucks with no reasons, are probably conservative republicans who know that they are wrong.

He did bring up good ideas and counter-spin news.

Like Bush saying not to second judge him or argue against him, or the terrorist win. Statements like should be brought up and shown how un-american he is.

What he said about the plane, was basically they were brave to risk there lives for a cause. Like the japanesse dive bombers. He however didn't like that it was a attack on civilians and not on the military.

2002-06-28 11:44:13 AM
I am sooooooooo glad to see that ultra left wing crazy gone.
He hated repulicans.
His podium was Republicanswere evil. If there was a counter from a guest he would talk over them until they shut up.
He'll burn

Best thing ever to happen to Mahr was when Erik Estrada knocked him out on Pictionary

2002-06-28 11:45:38 AM
What is it about political satire that Americans either find troubling, or have a hard time finding at all?

Bill Maher is no genious, and I disagree with him on many points, but he was the perfect host for PI. Catering to neither the republicans nor the democrats (though certainly leaning to the left), he evoked discussion, debate and thought.

It seems most would much rather watch a show that delivers a single, neatly packaged point-of-view. What a boring, pathetic television landscape that would be. Of course, that's exaclty what we're left with.

2002-06-28 11:52:26 AM
droogie: I have heard you speak fewer words than Bill Maher, it's true. But I'm not yet willing to say you have intelligence or balls. Good luck with gene therapy.
