Hey! Tesla rocks on totally, man. Don't knock on Tesla!

2006-08-06 12:26:37 AM
Hero?

First, it looks like a 1994 Mustang

Second, it's going to suck balls anyway.

GM just needs to give up already, and make f*cking lawnmowers or something.

2006-08-06 12:29:18 AM
They probably wouldn't have much luck there. I have a Honda lawnmower.

/The new Camaro looks pretty sweet.

Looks like GM will be just in time to not cash in on the retro-muscle-car fad, just like their new PT Cruiser killer-clone that's 7 years too late.

2006-08-06 12:57:59 AM
as long as they keep up on the Corvettes, I don't care what else they do...

2006-08-06 01:03:34 AM
ok, saw the pic of it...has the huge doors/small windows that a lot of the latest cars do. WTF is up wit dat?

I'll already be burning rubber in my new Dodge Challenger.

And what about bringing back the Pontiac Firebird/TransAm?

No kidding. I really liked my '76 Trans Am...

SpinStopper

I get the feeling this and the new new GTO will be very similiar in frame and options. So probably no real future Firebird/TA. We are talking about GM here.

And 2 v8s? So the V6 for pussies and high school girls, and both a Z28 and an SS? My question is will they both be the LS2? Or will one use the LS4 (5.3L) and the SS have the LS2?

GM, too little, way too late.

It may have a new body , but it will probably have the exact same chassis and drivetrain of a Colorado or some other classic GM tatic.

2006-08-06 12:27:56 PM
I've owned several (okay, three) Camaros over the past 20 years or so, including an '81 that I still own, and I'd rather buy the new Challenger.

WHOOPS

Sorry GM. All your former Camaro fans just financed new Ford Mustangs.

Ford was listening to what GM customers wanted in a pony car.

Too late.

2006-08-06 12:29:28 PM
That car suffers from community designer disease. It doesn't know what it wants to be and it looks like shiat.

2006-08-06 12:29:57 PM
They're trying to cash in on the whole retro car thing. Its really a novelty more than anything else. Hopefully Tesla motors will attend GMs funeral.

2006-08-06 12:30:14 PM
so, you create a design that looks sort of like an old camaro, build a car full of computer parts made in China, Korea and Japan, produce and engine that has nothing to do with engines of the sixties and seventies, and then announce "LOOK, IT'S A CAMARO!" All of this is proof positive that most American car buyers are either retarded or...aw hell, I don't know what.

2006-08-06 12:30:44 PM
Yeah and what about the '69 Camaro????

.....and I want mine with the optional Tesla Coil.....that's what we're talkin about right?

Heh, no. Anything that you could call a "fan" of either hates the other. So yeah, the Mustang won the high school girl and 50 year old balding man demographics.. but those aren't really fans. Those are "people who are sure Becky would find the car totally awesome".

2006-08-06 12:34:21 PM
"most American car buyers are either retarded or...aw hell, I don't know what."

The phrase "stupid" or "dumbass" is what youre looking for. Not for buying an american car, well, most american cars, but for buying somehting because they slapped the same name on whatever new POS they churn out.

Why would you want an engine that has anything to do with the motors of the sixties or seventies? You'd be looking at 20 less mpg and 100 less horsepower. The number of people who wouldn't have a problem with this is very, very small.

And I hated Ford with a passion... but they built what I wanted, so I bought one.

Tesla surrenders??? Smitty is an idiot...GM has enough of a track record that one can easily, clearly say that they produce shoddy vehicles

The Tesla has ZERO emissions and cost of 1-2 cents per mile

Even the less endowed(cough cough, smitty) would want one with its looks and specs

"WHOOPS

In the first place, since the Camaro will have an independent rear suspension where the Mustang has a live axle, and will thus have greatly superior handling to the Mustang... no.

In the second place, the original Camaro was also a response to the huge sales success of the original Mustang. That didn't stop the original Camaro from being a great success in it's own right, and won't automatically stop this one either. Not everyone wants a Ford. Deal with it.

Mustang>Camaro always have and always will.

I'm going to assume this thing wont get the almost unanimous positive reviews that the new Mustangs have. Most articles I have read about the new Mustang rates it one of the best cars made in a very long time. That, and with the Gt500 coming out, Mustangs are seeing a huge resurgance. I never liked Camaros anyways. All I ever see driving them around here are people who think they are fast, when they aren't. I mean sure, you can make them fast, but why make an inferior vehicle fast? Oh yea, because you can buy them cheap, but some primer on it, and rev your engine and get everyone else in the trailer park pumped up.

/likes pre 70 maros.
//anything after is shait.

First I had seen that they are producing a V6 version. I also had read they wouldn't offer an automatic transmission, so maybe now they will? I feel it looks too much like a mustang, but, we shall see on final version.

I love my 2002 V6 Camaro, it has great acceleration, I can blow pony cars away easily. But for everyday driving, it's comfortable, handles well, and gets 28-30mpg. Plus I can haul more stuff in the liftback than idiots in their 11mpg suvs.

I've looked and looked and couldn't find any 2006 model car that I liked so decided to hang on to it longer. By 2008 maybe I'll change my mind.

I agree: Dodge will beat them to market by almost a year with the new Challenger... and, since it's built on an existing platform, it will be a more reliable new model right out of the box.

Lagg
It may have a new body, but it will probably have the exact same chassis and drivetrain of a Colorado or some other classic GM tactic.
I don't think GM has a RWD platform from which they can clone this new car. That, and corporate inertia, will turn out to be the holdup.

/still rooting for GM
/but it's getting kinda depressing

Thats great,....by 2008, it'll only cost $200.00 to fill it up. Have fun! We're payin for your muscle cars with our sons and daughters dying in a desert.

I have two words for you: Mustang II.

Now take a look at the Camaros on sale the same years Ford came out with that abortion and tell me the Mustang was a "always" a better car.

Now that GM owns Saab, they should stop all this ponycar shiat and bring back a real classic:

You know, they started selling foreign automobiles from Germany and Japan over here. You might want to check out a car that can actually take turns instead of just going in a straight line.

Wow shouldnt this be a dumbass tag? Why not build a sensible car that doesnt look like ass sometime? Dumping money into crappy muscle cars and SUVs has placed american car manufactures into the position they are in.

Unless you did some serious modifications, there's no way you're getting that kind of mileage.

Shouldn't that headline read "General Motors to build new Camaro by 2008. Expects to issue first recall in 2009."

"Wow shouldnt this be a dumbass tag? Why not build a sensible car that doesnt look like ass sometime? Dumping money into crappy muscle cars and SUVs has placed american car manufactures into the position they are in."

No, sorry to break it to you, but the labor unions have placed American car manufacturers in the position they are in. There was a time when they were necessary, but in more recent years, they have extorted such overgenerous worker contracts from the automakers, that the Big Three can't make a car that will compete price-wise with the Japanese carmakers (who are building them in U.S. factories, but with non-Union labor) and maintain the same level of quality control. The simple fact is that thanks to the labor unions, American automakers have much higher overhead to cover, so they can either make cars that are just as good, but cost more, or cost the same, but aren't as good.

I had a 69 Camaro until Hurricane Opal took it out in '95. Loved that car. The new Camaro needs a little more retro look from the 67,68,69 years. The best looking Camaros ever.

I used to own a 86 red and silver camero when I first got my license. It read Team Camero across the bottom and was customized by Choo-Choo customs. I got rid of the car a few years ago, but I loved that car and I have tried my hardest to find a picture of that car but yet, I have not been able to find one at all on the Internet. If anyone can point me to a picture, I would appreciate it tremendiously!
