Doesn't anyone know the roller coasters are the secret rulers of the world?

2002-06-26 05:46:51 PM
Great.... a 75 year old rollercoaster, eh?

Might be exciting if they haven't done any maintenance in the last 50 years or so.

2002-06-26 05:47:28 PM
Indeed.

Forget Viagra, this woody has been up for 75 years!

MonkeyButler: Check the FArQ on the left side of the page and dig through for the info on posting photos/images in the Photoshop section.

Funny, I thought they tore it down.

Although I suppose the fact of its nonexistence doesn't make the thing any younger.

I don't see anything on that page saying it's been torn down, and considering I rode it last month, I'd say it's still there.

Fun ride. It's kind of short though. The barkers try to keep you in the seat by offering you a discount... we rodeit three times in a row for cheaper every time, the people waiting were pissed.

Appeal, am I missing something? Where does it say the Cyclone's been torn down? The last sentence on that page you linked is "It has been an amazing life, but against all odds the Cyclone is still with us, giving coaster lovers the punishment they love so much and a ride that many call near-perfect."

Ha! Thanks, Appeal, I needed a little good-natured humor after slogging through that "Pledge of Allegiance" thread. Criminy.

I've actually never ridden the Coney Island Cyclone.
But I will. Someday. :)

" Real security did not arrive until 1991. On June 13 the coaster was named a New York City historic landmark and on July 26 (the rides 64th birthday) it was dedicated as a National Historic Landmark, helping ensure the coaster's permanent existence at Coney Island."

Neat!

Coney Island's Thunderbolt was bulldozed 11-17-2000... Cyclone's still there obviously :)

Heh, what about that one ferris wheel that they had... the one that ended up catching on fire and rolling into the sea... killing everyone on it...

thanks to Beavosaurus Rex for showing me the way...

I'm the moron with my hands up - i ride it every summer

I've seen people ride it.

I heard you could feel it shake.

I'm not suicidal. :\

Unfortunately, I have never been on the Cyclone, at least that I don't remember of.

I lived in Brooklyn for a year when I was 7, and I remember going down to Coney Island all the time. I might of went on it, but I truly don't remember.

This is definetly a milestone. I hope they have remodeled the coaster, cuz 75 years is a lot of abuse taken on the coaster.

I lost count the number of times I've ridden the Cyclone. I grew up in Coney Island and my parents still live there. Thanx for this link.

You know BashMash, from the headache I got from riding that crickiety creaky thing I'm fairly certain they HAVEN"T done any remodeling. They should hand out advil when you get off.

The roller coaster, sicko.
