xaveth: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." - Al Gore

Ok, and? How does this out of context quote, that apparently you haven't the congnitive facilities to interpret, prove that Al Gore claimed to have invented the Internet?

Barrack Obama and Bill Clinton, I mean Hillary Clinton in 2008?!?!?!? What THE FARK! are you all insane?

Al Gore never said he invented the internet. The phrase was tersed out of a brief interview Al Gore had with Wolf Blitzer that pointed to some early internet legislation Gore was involved in.

I am convinced that Republican strategy over the past eight years (especially on the internet) is to spend millions getting the Democrats to nominate the wrong person. And I'm not talking about through direct campaigning but through much more Rovian subterfuge.

Right now, Hillary is getting kid glove treatment from the Republicans because it is fair to say that she is their dream candidate for the 2008 ticket. But Gore on the other hand gets nothing but the most virulent of vitriol hurled at him from the right whenever he comes up in the news. Bill O'Rielley practically frothes at the mouth at Gore's mention. And yet, O'Reilley seems rather neutral on Hillary.

Something has to explain how the Democrats wound up selecting Kerry for the nomination. Electable my ass, it was clear to anyone that even AL Sharpton was more electable than Kerry!

Gore is too much of a polarizer, even if he is an "adult". That's why we need somewhat more moderate. McCain, Leiberman, Obahma, etc.

Gore? Nope.

xaveth

Your point is what, exactly? Gore pushed and funded the DARPA program and its successors that led to the internet. Good for him and for us that he did. He never claimed that he "invented" the internet.

Eisenhower could rightly claim to have "taken the initiative to create the interstate highway system". If he were around today, he'd be slammed by media idiots for claiming to "have invented interstate highways".

Sure I'd vote for Gore, he has more than room temperature IQ; but then, many people voted for President Monkeyface because they could tell he's as thick as they are. I pray that 2008 plays out differently than 2000 and 2004......

2006-07-30 07:38:54 PM
Confabulat: Gore told Rolling Stone, "Right now we are borrowing huge amounts of money from China to buy huge amounts of oil from the most unstable region of the world, and to bring it here and burn it in ways that destroy the habitability of the planet. That is nuts! We have to change every aspect of that."

Hard to argue with that logic.

P.J. would beg to differ.

...Anyway, Al Gore was about, I don't know, a million times better prepared to be the Leader of the Free World than George Bush was in 2000. As President, Mr. Bush has failed time after time again to lead our country into the modern world, it is almost as though he is intentionally guiding us back into the dark ages and into religious wars. I wish I was kidding.

Your News Anchor: DistendedPendulusFrenulum: I'm sure Mainstream America would prefer the authoritarian, superstitious neofascists we have in power now. After all, what's due process but an unnecessary impediment? And how will we compel ideological compliance if someone circumvents Fox News?

Hi, I'm DistendedPendulusFrenulum and I like to use big words 95% of the population doesn't know, so I appear superior to everyone else.

I voted for Bush because he knows what he wants, unlike Kerry, who jumps all over the place. Also, Bush's values seem closer to mine. But Kerry at least took his loss with some style. Gore made a big stink when he lost, pissing a bunch of people off and perhaps costing the Democrats the most recent election. There is no way in a thousand years Gore would ever win if he ran again.

Randall Flagg: How does this out of context quote, that apparently you haven't the congnitive [sic] facilities to interpret, prove that Al Gore claimed to have invented the Internet?

Uh oh, we have another Al Gore apologist. Well first of all, I merely submitted the quote to expand the topic rather than basing the subject on someone's interpretation of his quote. But now if you do want my "congnitive" (as you say) interpretation of the quote... Al Gore took way more credit than he deserved for "creating the internet".

2006-07-30 07:46:05 PM
"Gore 2008: I told you so" would be a pretty concise bumper sticker slogan.

keytronic: but through much more Rovian subterfuge.

At this point .... the democrats need to begin a 12 step program, before they will even have a hope to win any future elections.

But they will never even start, because they are completely, and totaly unablr to get to the easiest stage, recognizing that they have a problem.

As long as they are convinced that their losses are all part of some elaborate sceheme from Karl Rove ... they are doomed to fail, and blame it on 'evil republican mind tricks.'

I'd really rather just shut up, and let them continue on in this insanity of theirs - but after 8 years, this is really getting old.

Grow some balls, nominate a farking candidate who can win, have a message of your own - other than "anyone but bush,"
and when you loose, - and this is a novel idea - "move - on" it's sad, to see so many people claim that "Gore won" in 2000 and that "Kerry won" in 04.

Come on, guys, this is really getting embarrasing for you - I feel bad for you all ...

Wow, blistering retort. I guess I'll have to log-off and take a little nap now.

Liberals cannot be trusted WRT national defense. There is not enough back-bone amongst the lot of you to stand up Islamic fanatics. Of course, you might be able to sit and have good long talk about all the things they are upset about. They probably just need a shoulder to cry on.

Al Gore, where have you been all my life?

That's the point at which I stopped taking the article seriously.

I think it was at "wonkish" for me.

I would rather take the embarassment of not getting over stolen elections than the embarassment of continuing to support President Bush and his fiasco of an Administration.

Does anyone else find it TERRIBLY depressing that our presidential choice seems to swing back and forth like a pendulum, from one extreme to another, after every few terms? It goes from as far right as you can get to as far left as you can get. I'll be happy when we finally get a nice, sane moderate running the show for a change.

Everyone is biatching and moaning about what a poor job Bush is doing, and I'm right there with them. But we'll all be doing the same thing when we get a democrat in there. I miss the days when the most of our worries was a stain on a dress and national outrage that our pres scored a bj with a fat chick.

Adult?! Um... I seem to remember a very revealing temper tantrum he threw in front of a very large audience. That one incident tells you a lot about his calm under pressure and how emotion takes over. Not someone you want pressed by various crises. He's fine as second banana because the final decision doesn't rest upon his shoulders. I really don't think he has what it takes to think rationally in extreme situations.

And instead we selected somebody who freezes up in a crisis, mangles his native tongue, acts like a slob in social situations, and bases his actions on religious conservatism.

Good work, America, you really have presented the nation's best as candidates to the highest office in the land.

How does that differ from the chimp currently sitting in the Oval Office again?

The environment is a useless topic. The environment is changing, and it always has been. We're not even at temperatures that the earth sustained before we even got here. This topic is just another distraction.

Jebus Christ, we have people starving around the world because of America's foreign policies and greed for their assets. Our corporations wreak havok on other economies in order to sustain ours.. it's like a global pyramid scheme, and like any pyramid scheme, it'll eventually collapse (the economy, I mean).

Our government is so intertwined with media that we can't even get a clear picture of what's going on. We might as well be watching the News from China.. we've got an illusion of free press but they control the corporations that control the media and vice versa.

All sides here need to wake up and read the history and news, not watch it on TV.

Correct.

Smitty, you're a shining example of why the dems consistently lose to chimps, retards, and fundies. Somehwere along the way your brain ceased to understand the meaning of "electability". As a TRUE conservative who is sick of the GOP I respectfully ask you to round up all your like-minded friends and disappear for a few years. Those of us who realize that the single-most important quality a candidate can have is electability will wake you up in the late fall of 2008. Have a nice sleep, thanks very much.

Both parties are the same, anyone who thinks Al Gore (or any democrat) is an improvement over a Republican (or any Republican over a Democrat) has very thick rose color lenses on...and no brains.

Almost 6 years of Bush, and you Nader-ites still believe that? Hey, I'm not a huge fan of the Democratic Party, but they are definitely different than Republicans, and the past six years have proved it. (Except for Lieberman. He's the same as a Republican.)

"Why can't we get a normal president?"

What a wonderful question.

Ask the press. They have run roughshod over the "Freedom of the Press" thing and have lost all sense of accountability.

No normal person today would consider running for a major office because we all have skeletons in the closet and the press will go to any lengths to find them or make them up. Any one over the age of 40 and under 60 that claims they never smoked pot is a liar. Most have much worse things to hide.

Soooooo, all we have choices on are nebbishes that couldn't think their way out of a wet paper sack. Dull, boring, never had an original thought, no sense of humor....Al Gore. perfect. What neo-con will he be up against? Just another nebbish. The first 4 people forward will be destroyed by their closet.
