Everybody samba!
2002-06-26 10:15:32 AM
Shame! Would have been nice to see an all Adidas final. Even the Ref wears it.

Good game though. Good to see a team that goes down by a goal just after half time keep playing until the final whistle, unlike England's pathetic effort.

Roll on Euro 2004!

/waits for the first pics of the Brazilian Female Football Team

79 mins: Ilhan Mansiz's cross-cum-shot almost sneaks into the Brazil net but Marcos tips the ball over for a corner.

cross-cum-shot... very interesting

I'm so excited to read this that maybe I better just skip it, lest I have a coronary.

eschewing soccer is what makes America great!
2002-06-26 10:20:26 AM
By the way Ilhan Mansiz should have started, stupid Senol Gunes waited too long to put him in
2002-06-26 10:20:30 AM
Sepultura is happy I am sure...

Oops, damn that's a big pic. I'm sure most Farkers wouldn't mind though.
2002-06-26 10:27:10 AM
GALATASARY I totally agree! Hakan did a bit better in this game than the last one but Ilhan should have started in his place.

Good to hear Arsenal is looking at Hasan Sas. He's a great player and it would be good to have a Turk at Arsenal as so many fans in the stadium are Turkish.
2002-06-26 10:27:47 AM
What's up with this "backwards in time" report? Is that the way they always give match results in Europe, or did some dumb typesetter mess up the format?
2002-06-26 10:28:03 AM
Anonymouse: well, I'm happy, now, anyway...

Undertoad, well at the top it says...

All the action as it happened as Brazil beat Turkey 1-0 in their semi-final in Saitama.

So I would guess that it's some sort of transcript where the guy was making updates as the game went on and just put the new entries at the top instead of the bottom. Probably didn't want to scroll all the way down the page or something.

Stupid-ass Brazil wouldn't even have gone this far if it weren't for FIFA's cheap help. fark Brazil, especially Rivaldo, that over-hyped sack of bones with sunken eyes. Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos are good, though.

THeiceberg: What game did you watch? You are clueless, Brazil has won their last three games without conceding a goal.
How has FIFA helped Brazil? Are you referring to the group stage game against Turkey? You do realize Turkey played today?
They held mighty England for 35 minutes with 10 men comfortably.
Rivaldo does things that I assume you can not understand or are able to appreciate if you think he is overhyped. Scoring the goals is not everything he does, I believe he has scored FIVE so far in the tournament. He creates space, draws defenders, sets up team mates and if needed he can have someone ejected!!! You may dislike him for other reasons but as a football player, there is not much more anyone can do.
2002-06-26 10:50:08 AM
Rivaldo could've passed it and Brazil could have gone 2-0, but he's a showboating wanker.

79 mins: Ilhan Mansiz's cross-cum-shot almost sneaks into the Brazil net but Marcos tips the ball over for a corner.

How exactly do you "sneak" a cum shot past someone anyway?
2002-06-26 10:52:04 AM
I think we need to look some more at this:

Rocky I think Iceberg may be talking about the world cup qualifiers where, from what I recall, there were some very dubious things happening with Brazil's qualification matches, like teams moving to different stadiums and other stuff.

I can't remember all the details as when I listen to the South American football correspondant on the radio, it's at 3am on Monday morning and I should be asleep because I have work in about 5 hours time.
2002-06-26 10:57:11 AM
why does anyone care that brazil won..i mean..germany and bierhoff arr clearly the better team and will beat them...GERMANY AND BIERHOFF!!!!!! GET RID OF YELLOW CARD RULE FOR BALLACKS RETURN!!!!
2002-06-26 10:57:16 AM
Phlelan Well Ronaldinho lobbed Seaman from 30 yards the other day so I guess anything is possible!
2002-06-26 10:57:23 AM
seriously, who cares. it's interesting, but we don't need a result of _every_ damn match posted on fark. hell, tennis is more popular than soccer in america, and you don't see the wimbledon results being posted constantly.
2002-06-26 10:58:55 AM
it was great when denilson was put in and he had 4 turkey players running after him down in the corner, and he was able to hold 'em off until he was fouled. too bad he doesn't play more often...
2002-06-26 11:01:37 AM
Renaldo is going to get some pussy.
2002-06-26 11:03:49 AM
eat it Captain Whackoff!!

I am sooooooo glad Brazil won, now at least we will have an exciting Final....I am going for the Germany win though...i think they will out do Brazil, with or without Ballack.
2002-06-26 11:04:01 AM
There's a rather boisterous party at College and Ossington in Toronto right now.

I may drop by to see if it's still going when I head downtown to see the missus later.
2002-06-26 11:05:08 AM
CapnWacky:- I'm no big fan either, but football is the most popular sport in the world, so it's interesting to a hell of a lot of people, and this is an international site.
2002-06-26 11:05:13 AM
Umidude: I dont know anything about that. I do know Brazil had a very difficult time getting to the cup. If they changed venues, it may have been because certain parts of Brazil are more critical of certain players and Scolari probably felt he needed to "protect" his players by setting up the games in parts of Brazil where the fans where more likeley to be tolerant of the team or sympathetic to their poor form. Nothing more than doing what you think is best for your team.

A perfect example of using the home field advantage to the max is the contrast between Korea and Japan. If you noticed, the stadium Korea chose was rather small and the pitch was close to the crowd, makes for more "fan participation". On the other hand, Japan, used a venue with a track around the pitch and the stands where much farther from the field. Its harder for the crowds to have an impact the farther they are from the field. Butt that is just my opinion and opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one.

Germany vs Brazil, three time champions against four time champions and finalists to the last THREE WORLD CUPS. I think Brazil is doing something right. Should be a great final.

In Wimbledon News:
Mario Ancic stunned seventh-seeded Roger Federer 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Tuesday - on Centre Court no less - in the biggest upset of the championships so far.
2002-06-26 11:08:09 AM
Christoba: German coach Rudi Vöeller: "Even though he [Michael Ballack] knew that with another yellow card he would miss the final, he still committed that tactical foul that was absolutely necessary." Don't you just love when managers are honest?
2002-06-26 11:09:25 AM
I hope they pummel the krauts on sunday, damn krauts..... and who'll win the 3'rd place play off ? turkey V korea ?

Those brazilians play dirty...did you see how they kicked the turkish goalie's head?? that should have been a red card.
2002-06-26 11:11:25 AM
and this is an international site

i bet it's blocked in China, though.
2002-06-26 11:12:02 AM
Well those are some mighty impressive colors. Same as Packer colors! Soccer sux! Go Brazil! Go Pack go!! Boobies!
2002-06-26 11:12:36 AM
If you dont like the game, why are you here?
Flamers Flamers, "you been sippin' on haterade".

Christoba: Germany has done well, but with all due respect, Bierhoff is not even in the starting lineup. He is an excellent substitute and in his prime was an excellent starter. Without Kahn, Germany would have been sent home by the USA, that is an accepted fact. Unlucky for Ballack, but he did what he had to do and now he will miss the real big dance. Must suck for him, first Neverkusen and now this! Maybe he will actually get to play a championship with Bayern and Kahn!! Too bad Barcelona didnt pick him up when they could.
oh yea PENTA!!!!! PENTA!PENTA!PENTA!!!!!!
2002-06-26 11:17:06 AM
Rocky I agree with everyone having their own opinion. To be honest, it will be a great final and I'm looking forward to it.

As an England fan, I've been so disappointed with their performance against Brazil. After the goal they really didn't play. It's a shame they didn't have someone like Ray Parlour in the squad who would still play his heart out, even if they were losing 6-0.

This is why I was so happy with Turkey's efforts. They went out to play and even though they didn't get as many chances as Brazil, at least they kept at them!

Anyway, here's to a great final!
2002-06-26 11:20:36 AM
i know i saw Cormee post it before, but anyone else know the link to the pic of Ronaldo arriving in Japan, and he is slanting his eyes at some Japanese girls.
god damn that is a funny pic.

help me out!
2002-06-26 11:21:31 AM
Can we have a good ole fashioned flame war?
Come on, its been over 2 or 3 weeks since the last big one.
