Yeah, and the vast majority were Hamas or Islamic Jihad members, though.

Tatsuma: Yeah, and the vast majority were Hamas or Islamic Jihad members, though.

not to sound snarky or anything, seriously, but do you know that, or are you assuming that? that's an honest question - I didn't see a breakdown of who was killed, only a number.

There was a link greenlit about that, a little while ago. The IDF had, so far, a 40:1 terrorist/civilian casualties ratio.

All the news reports I read indicated little to no civilians most of the time.

Not saying there were none, of course there were, but they were far lower than what's happening in Lebanon, though, which is a good thing

That is an unforgivable typo.

"P" is nowhere NEAR "D" on the keyboard.

An Israeli soldier was helped by Palestinians?

/I do not think so

2006-07-27 12:50:38 PM
"Israeli soldier help by Palestinians in Gaza to be released soon."

Que?

2006-07-27 12:51:09 PM
The Palestinians are helping the Israeli soldier? That's mighty nice of them. Maybe there is a chance for lasting peace and harmony in the Middle East.

I would like to see the link about the 40:1 terrorist/civilian ratio. Does any one have it?

maybe he meant 'helped?' as in "Israeli soldier helped into a van at gunpoint?"
/maybe not..

Yeah, and the vast majority were Hamas or Islamic Jihad members, though.

I can't speak for the Gaza operation, but hasn't the Lebanon operation killed like 6 times more civvies than fighters?

Also, Hamas just denied that they were gonna release the guy.

2006-07-27 12:52:53 PM
See??? This is what I am talking about! Palestinians HELPING the Israelis instead of all this killing. There CAN be peace in the middle east!

2006-07-27 12:53:04 PM
Headline required a lot of pondering.

2006-07-27 12:53:17 PM
I think submitter meant "hell," not "help."

You can't stop a forest fire by putting out the match that started it.

Okay, so he's released. Then what?

ElCorridor: You can't stop a forest fire by putting out the match that started it.

No, but it's a good way to start.

elchip: I can't speak for the Gaza operation, but hasn't the Lebanon operation killed like 6 times more civvies than fighters?

No, so far, the Lebanon operation is pretty split 1:1, actually. It started badly (around 1:2) but since Israel is now on foot, civilian casualties are going down and down.

Also, Hamas just denied that they were gonna release the guy.

2006-07-27 12:54:41 PM
I thought it was 50:50 civilian/terrorist ratio. But what's the standard of error on these test samples?

2006-07-27 12:55:28 PM
Does submitter actually think that's what this was about?

2006-07-27 12:55:36 PM
that headline is misleading.

Yeah, good question, I don't understand how you can measure such things. Considering the prevalence of gun ownership over there, and the fact that a terrorist can include the perpetrators of violence or those who directly aid the perpetrators... save for high-ranking Hamas/Hezbollah officials, how do you discriminate?

Translation: "If you wish for peace prepare for war"

Since I am improving my stock of words and phrases here is another useful word from the latin:

Main Entry: pre·text
Pronunciation: 'prE-"tekst
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin praetextus, from praetexere to assign as a pretext, screen, extend in front, from prae- + texere to weave -- more at TECHNICAL
: a purpose or motive alleged or an appearance assumed in order to cloak the real intention or state of affairs

WTF?

The last article I saw about casualties was something to the effect of 310 dead, 11 of which were hezbolah and the rest civilians, 1/3 of them children.

killdawabbitt: I thought it was 50:50 civilian/terrorist ratio

I thought that everybody in Lebanon/Syria/Palestine/Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan was a terrorist

at least that's what Fox New/CNN/MSNBC tells me

skintigh

See my above comment. Even children can be considered terrorists if they actively take up arms against Israeli civillians. It's a very hard distinction to make.

/wish I had some linky goodness of little kids dressed like martyrs... but no idea how to. sorry.

And Israel continues to lose a war of attrition at a remarkable rate.

How much did it cost the Palestinians to take and hold that soldier?

How much did it cost the Israelis to get him back?

Who will run out of resources first?

2006-07-27 01:01:22 PM
Unfortunately, the article has been changed and I couldn't find anything about 40:1 ratios :( It only has stuff about 6 year old babies being mistaken for gun men.

2006-07-27 01:01:32 PM
I think the region needs some more violence. The last 2000 years af fighting and destruction haven't worked but I think we're realy close now. A few more bombs ought to do it.

skintigh: The last article I saw about casualties was something to the effect of 310 dead, 11 of which were hezbolah and the rest civilians, 1/3 of them children.

Yesterday, the IDF fought in Bint Jbail and killed around 30 Hizbullah fighters (reports as low as 15 and as high as 50). It's been like that pretty much all over.
Do you follow the Israeli medias?

www.haaretz.com
www.ynetnews.com
www.jpost.com

You'll be able to follow the casualties everyday.

2006-07-27 01:02:08 PM
I dont see any of you Farkers ever complain or protest when Hezbolla fired 900 missiles into Israel after they withdrew from Lebanon last time.
Funny how the world is pretty silent when Hezbolla kills Israeli civilians, but when Israel does it then theres outrage.
Sick.

2006-07-27 01:02:16 PM
The terror state of Israel will not stop anytime soon. They only need transperant excuses to start their little murder sprees - not to end them.

2006-07-27 01:02:18 PM
Help? I did not know that the Palestinians subscribed to the tenets of Dr. Kervorkian.

Why would you want to? Jesus Christ.

2006-07-27 01:03:19 PM
^^ I should append to my last note, that Hezbolla intentionally targets civilians.
Israel does NOT INTENTIONALLY target civilians.

2006-07-27 01:03:22 PM
Why don't they just smash all the Arab babies heads on the rocks like God told them to do to the Canaanites?

Tatsuma: No, so far, the Lebanon operation is pretty split 1:1, actually. It started badly (around 1:2) but since Israel is now on foot, civilian casualties are going down and down.

You're a bold-faced liar. From the latest AP news report:

At least 423 people have been killed in Lebanon - including 376 civilians reported by the Health Ministry and security officials.

That's because everyone here hates Jews, I think.

well, duh, since we're talking about the Operation Summer Rains. Read the title?

Oh Ha'aretz pisses me off

They tend to use the same links for different articles that they update. Notice that the article was updated last 2 days after the link was posted on fark

what i find disturbing is that al-qaeda is trying to proclaim a holy war against israel.

2006-07-27 01:06:06 PM
Actually, dgarg

The Israel Defense Forces has killed about 40 Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip in an effort to show the Palestinians there is a high price to pay for firing rockets and kidnapping an Israeli soldier, IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz told troops during a visit to an army base near Gaza on Friday. that was the day before their first civilian victim

mc frontalot: At least 423 people have been killed in Lebanon - including 376 civilians reported by the Health Ministry and security officials.

yeah, reported by the Lebanese government and Hizbullah.

Palestinians reported 3,000 deaths in the Jenin operation of 2002, too.

Maxwell_Smart: Why would you want to? Jesus Christ.

I don't want to read about dead people, but since I want to know what's happening, the articles about the war kinda rubs it in my face.
