Too bad they didn't accidently hit him in the head a few times with a hammer.

2006-07-27 12:39:44 AM
Or a nail gun!

Ryder fled and was chased by the construction workers, who caught and sat on him until police arrived.

Now see, this is a totally appropriate use of the hero tag. The guys captured the guy without killing him or beating him to a pulp, thus eliminating a bunch of reasons for his subsequent appeals.

2006-07-27 12:54:44 AM
Glad the creep is back in custody and nothing more serious happened to the mom and her children.

2006-07-27 01:08:46 AM
Good story...right up until they let him out again.

I'd like to believe they won't but this is America, after all.

2006-07-27 01:17:15 AM
Exactly, ARN...anyone with six of their friends could capture and beat a guy to death, but it takes people with true character (and more then a bit of nerve) to show enough restraint to turn the asshole over to the authorities without gratuitous harm. Heroes one and all.

I dunno about that one... ;)

Man, maddox was right when he talked about the pedo eyes. The guy is freaking me out.

2006-07-27 10:38:08 AM
I'm impressed.

Not that they caught the guy.

hat they let him live.

their union is gonna give them such shiat for doing that without a work order.

You, sir, are a farking asshole and need to crawl back under the syphilitic whore you slept under last night.

how do you know how much money he had? what if it were a matter of preference? this story has nothing to do with the debate you want, so leave guns out of it.

Happened locally...
They weren't construction workers... they were Forest Service employees setting up a tent at the zoo.

And the kids weren't targeted.

2006-07-27 10:43:00 AM
I would have accidently dropped him in with the bears at the zoo.

2006-07-27 10:43:08 AM
Ryder was arrested on three counts of kidnapping and one count of robbery, according to Schmautz.
Don't get me wrong here, this guy is a total piece of dung, but who exactly did he kidnap and rob? Seems like those charges are inaccurate and should be preceded by "attempted".

2006-07-27 10:43:47 AM
He targeted adult women who were strangers; usually he entered victims' homes at night and threatened them with a knife.

What does he think this is, England?

2006-07-27 10:43:58 AM
I guess you could say the perv was nailed as soon as those workers saw him coming.

2006-07-27 10:44:22 AM
I know it's in our best interests as a society to refrain from killing people like this on the spot, but sometimes......

2006-07-27 10:44:28 AM
What does it mean when they say he was "in custody" for 32 years? Was he in prison, or in an institution?

I hope that this incident means he won't be mingling with society for the rest of his functional life.

2006-07-27 10:45:34 AM
Debug

Kidnapping means basically either keeping people in a place they do not want to be in out of fear, or making someone move to a place they do not want to be in out of fear. Even if his threats caused her to move 3 feet- back inside the car or whatnot- that can be considered kidnapping.

As for robbery... not a clue. Maybe TFA left out something?

Good job, Floyd Landis!

In regards to the earlier thread, I wonder if a philosophy major selling insurance would have come to the rescue as quickly.

2006-07-27 10:47:23 AM
99% chance that these construction workers were Latino and illegal immigrants.

They weren't construction workers... they were Forest Service employees setting up a tent at the zoo.

It was a crew doing construction work -- sounds like construction workers to me.

2006-07-27 10:49:57 AM
Looks like he 'fell' and hit his forehead on the ground.

Bravo.

2006-07-27 10:50:31 AM
If he dropped the knife as he ran, then yes sitting on him till the authorities arrived was the correct decision.

However, if he brandished the weapon when me and my co-workers caught up with him, he would be in for a beat down of epic proportions.

People can complain about me being too violent all they want, but when he has a knife, all bets are off.

2006-07-27 10:51:40 AM
Believe what you want. These walls
are funny. First you hate 'em, then
you get used to 'em. After long
enough, you get so you depend on
'em. That's "institutionalized."

Seedforsowing: Too bad they didn't accidently hit him in the head a few times with a hammer.

From the looks of the mug shot it looks like they did...

Twenty six years in prison and what does he do six years after being released, he goes right on back to doing what landed him in prison in the first place. Our justice system needs a serious overhaul. We either need to determine more effectively whether these freaks can be "rehabilitated" or we need to just start putting a round between their eyes.

Seriously, twenty six years in prison. It only took my therapist a year to tell me that I was one sick little biatch, don't try to tell me that we couldn't have determined in all that time if this guy was likely to committ another crime.

2006-07-27 10:53:27 AM
I was just in that parking lot on Sunday with my kids. In addition to
the Zoo, there is the Childrens Museum (for the under 7 croud)
right across the parking lot.
They should have dragged him back into the zoo and threw him to the lions. Farking bastad.

Whats it like living in Portland? I'm considering moving there.

Well for starters, take one wall in your current house or
apartment bathroom and paint it battleship gray. Now stare
at it for the next 10 months while standing under a cold shower.
For the other two months, turn on the heater, but remain in the shower.
If after 12 months you can still smile, laugh and not kill yourself or others,
you can survive here.

twisting this to enact tougher sex offender laws in 3..2..1..

Look, the guy has problems. That biatch was probably asking for it, too. farking cocktease.

If only they would do this with rapists

Tatsuma: Man, maddox was right when he talked about the pedo eyes.

Pedo wasn't his M.O., though, according to TFA: Ryder was convicted of rape and sodomy in 1974 and was in custody from that year until 2000, according to state records. He targeted adult women who were strangers; usually he entered victims' homes at night and threatened them with a knife.

Not to say that the kids weren't going to be hurt, but he may have rather thought the adult woman would be more cooperative if her children were held hostage.

(I can't help nervously troubleshooting these scenarios; I have a wife and toddler at home.)

Chirping_Cricket

Killing them wastes a valuable resource.

Lock them in chains, and use them as pack mules and manual laborers for eternity.

Or just have prisoner on prisoner PPV fights to the death for our entertainment.

Yeah baby, Roman style!

Oh, you're so cutting egde and irreverent. Can I please smack you with a dumptruck?

*blinka* Uh... 'twisting' this story? Explain, please.

This is probably not the animal that mother wished her children to see this day.

SoulSaver: However, if he brandished the weapon when me and my co-workers caught up with him, he would be in for a beat down of epic proportions.

Im curious how many times this is the exact same thought the criminal has.

Believe me im in no way condoning his actions at all. But think about it.

It is why im against the death penalty even for farktards like this guy.

Not because he doesnt deserve to die but because i dont want my thought process to ever be similar to his.

just change your word of KILLING to RAPING and you have what is probably going through his mind.

SoulSaver

Now the PPV fights I could probably get behind.

Are you not entertained? Did you not come here to see two rapists brutally beat each other with cucumbers?

2006-07-27 11:01:08 AM
Trash like that needs to be put in prison with big red "R" on them. Just to let all the prisoners know what he did. Or just up the death penlty for all repeat rapists.

Sex is so tied up in the brain with agression in mammals that every once in awhile the link is so powerful in a human being, and in this case I use that term lightly, that such a person becomes truly predatory. These people, once identified, should be locked up for life.

2006-07-27 11:02:52 AM
He was just asking her if she lost a knife.
