So they're trying to determine whether or not she's insane or not, correct?

2006-07-26 12:43:39 PM
I think so - at least under Texas definition.

2006-07-26 12:44:13 PM
Too bad it's not Mr. Yates on trial.

Kyosuke: Too bad it's not Mr. Yates on trial.

I'm not entirely familiar with this case, but why do you say this? Did he drown those 5 kids?

How many times do they have to go over the trial procedures? I've listened to this for about 20 minutes and they've gone over it at least 5 times.

Oh thank god, All My Children will be played later. I was getting worried.

Streaming media is blocked for me at work: Whats the verdict?

2006-07-26 12:55:45 PM
I tried reading the article, but then a chubby man in a pink shirt appeared at the bottom of the screen and began speaking to me. Reacting with semi-lightning reflexes, I pressed the back button. Am I insane?

At least her kids weren't witches.

Nothing yet. Waiting for everyone to show up.

They're still waiting for the jurors to come out.

The only person responsible for drowning those kids is on trial.

Abominable Snow Man: At least her kids weren't witches.

if they were they'd have floated.

I'll take the aisle seat and a Jack and Coke.

My prediction: She will be found guilty, but just as the bailiff is ready to lead her away, Jesus will come crashing through the skylight of the courtroom on a rope, will grab her, and they'll be whisked away via Apache chopper under heavy gunfire on a final trip to the Pearly Gates.

/what?

2006-07-26 12:58:26 PM
"she's going back to an institution, whether that's penal or mental"

I giggled....

The Homer Tax

I read a book on the case a couple of years ago. Mr. Yates was very insistent that they have baby after baby after baby, he pretty much isolated her from friends, insisted she home-school, knew she had a mental situation and left those kids alone with her. There was even a period where the entire family lived in a single-room camper.

If he knew she was suffering from depression and delusions, leaving the children in her care was mighty damn negligent. To some (possibly minor) degree, he has some responsibility in what happened.

I beleive she had that disorder where she got very depressed after having children, and more so after each one. The husband basically forced her to keep having more children even though she didn't want to and he knew the effect it had on her. He may have even stopped her from seeking treatment. Eventually after so many kids she was affected enough that she snapped and killed them.

I might not have that all right so maybe someone more familar can chime in.

Unless they are feeding her live to an animal, I don't care.

/I still had to comment, though.

Why are we flogging Mr. Yates? He wasn't at home when she drowned the kids. Oh, I forgot - women are never responsible for their ats. It's always the mans fault.

This couple had a different lifestyle than most of us. They had lots of kids, and she was a stay at home mom. That doesn't make Mr Yates a criminal. She didn't produce 5 kids because she was raped. They chose their lifestyle together.

Andrea YAtes is coming into the courtroom now.

"She is charged in only three of the deaths, which is common in cases involving multiple slayings."

from: http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/07/26/yates.trial.ap/index.html

What about the other two, I don't get it...

2006-07-26 01:00:20 PM
Mr. Yates is directly responsible for his ex-wife's deep depression.

So true. The ol' boy knew that his wife got crazier and crazier after every pregnancy so what does he do? Launched some more sperm shots into her.

Put him in the prison cell with her.

I had forgotten that part of it. You raise a good point. Still, I think she was the type of woman who thought her role was to raise kids.

Jury now in the room.

2006-07-26 01:01:29 PM
Ms. Yates, I declare you legally obese!

2006-07-26 01:01:44 PM
Punishment should fit the crime.

Drown her........in ants.

On a more serious note...I don't think Andrea Yates could be dead enough for any of us...

Because if she is aquitted on these three, they can try her on the other two. You know, double jeopardy?
