Nice headline, smitty.

Yes, Honda will offer a new consumer jet to the American market. No, it will not be a hatchback.

That's Ricest!!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Anything that keeps Piper in business is alright with me.

The reported new pilot for the aircraft:

There were plenty of pictures of Asi, for some reason, I liked this one best.

Lumber Jack Off: I always laugh when one of those stupid punks get pulled over for speeding and/or wreckless driving.

Personally I always laugh when a few dozen "muscle car" owners get busted for running an impromptu drag strip on public roads.

I don't laugh when an innocent wanders into their non-cordoned-off area and gets killed by one of them though. That's just sad.

Didn't Mitsubishi make planes around the time of WW2?

A nice looking jet. If I ever won the lottery, I'd buy one.

I could be mistaken, but I think they made the Zero. At the time, Mitsubishi was one of the largest manufacturing concerns in Japan.

I will not be impressed until the time that they invent the sonic boombox.

2006-07-26 12:32:48 PM
Bloody hell, can't they concentrate on making a passable F1 car first? Land speed records, planes, classy adverts...all well and good, but I want Jenson to win a race.

2006-07-26 12:33:39 PM
Exocet: Nifty.

Looks pretty... but what the hell is that little white strip running between the wing & engine?

2006-07-26 12:35:53 PM
Looks like Honda must have found some clever ways around pantents - look for the direct copy of Gulfstream interior, flight controls, etc

2006-07-26 12:35:58 PM
Don't like the engine mounts on the wings.
440KTS @FL410 will be fast though... Mach .90-.92 perhaps?

2006-07-26 12:36:44 PM
wreckless driving

I thought that was the whole point?

Hard to tell from the angle, but it looks like it might be the engine mount. Can't tell if the engine is mounted to the wing or the fuselage.

It could also just be an additional stablizier, like the vertical wingtips on the A319/A320 Airbus's

2006-07-26 12:37:40 PM
Ha! Good one!

2006-07-26 12:37:45 PM
So basically they are doing the reverse of Saab.

Honda - born from hatchbacks.

//can you get a carbon fiber cockpit nose?
//NOS sticker on the fuselage?
//the airborne and the furious

2006-07-26 12:38:20 PM
The engines are mounted above the wings, rather than the usual case of under the tail. I believe those white strips are pylons holding the engines to the wings.

In other news, the Spectrum very light jet crashed and killed the test pilots... Damn shame.

2006-07-26 12:38:20 PM
How can it be the Civic of the sky with the engines in the back like that? It's really more of the NSX of the sky.

2006-07-26 12:39:21 PM
Finally a reason to mount huge wings on a honda.

Some kind of funky stabilizer on the engine pillar?

Huge pic here(pops) (different angle)

I'm waiting for the inevitable Type-R version

2006-07-26 12:41:57 PM
I wonder if the Acura version will be more luxurious?

2006-07-26 12:42:34 PM
As long as it is not Mitsubishi, but someone has already beat me to that it looks like.

2006-07-26 12:42:40 PM
Can't wait to see the huge ass shopping cart spoiler and "Type R" stickers attached to one. Maybe some bigass chrome tips soldered to the back of the engines.

2006-07-26 12:43:59 PM
Don't forget the gigantic K&N air intake system.

MonkeyBoy666: Looks pretty... but what the hell is that little white strip running between the wing & engine?

The Honda site indicates that they mounted the engines above the wings (and not to the fuselage) to reduce noise and increase available luggage space. Wonder if the cost will be in line with the Eclipse which should start shipping any day now...

My favorite anti-Harley t-shirt reads:
"If HD made an airplane would you fly in it?"
It just got even more funny.

2006-07-26 12:49:06 PM
Will the jet have a big, bazooka-like exhaust, too?

Honda, born from 50cc step through scooters.

People seem to forget Honda made motorcycles before cars before lawn mowers before generators before planes.
