I do wonder what happened here... hopefully we'll hear something later in the week.

2006-07-25 10:55:21 AM
But Joe Morgan is still employed. Unbelievable.

2006-07-25 11:02:22 AM
He was way better than Kruk, Martinez or any other has-been major leaguer. That sucks.

2006-07-25 11:19:34 AM
Harold Reynolds was one of the only guys I actually paid attention to on ESPN. He was one of the few who could explain the nuances of the game and not sound patronizing like Joe Morgan.

2006-07-25 11:25:25 AM
It was actually nice to have someone on there that didn't boo-yah, do stupid nicknames or try to be all hipster. I stoped watching sportscenter a long time ago. I guess baseball tonight is next.

\Thinks Morgan/Miller is best on TV. Suckit :)

typingwithonehand: and not sound patronizing like Joe Morgan

Yeah, but Joe Morgan invented the power-hitting second baseman and played for the Big Red machine that was better than any of the teams playing today!

/I hate Joe Morgan with a passion

Lord of Allusions

But Joe Morgan is still employed. Unbelievable.

It boggles the farking mind, doesn't it?

Harold Reynolds was the only baseball pundit on ESPN that I didn't want to stab in the face.

I guess ESPN is just furthering its recent "All Bad Decisions, All the Time" business model.

2006-07-25 11:28:39 AM
I like Reynolds and Morgan.

Tim McCarver is the Billy Packer of baseball.

2006-07-25 11:34:18 AM
One of my favorite classic ESPN commercials:

"You lollygag to first base. Then you lollygag to second. Do you know what you are? A bunch of lollygaggers!"

2006-07-25 11:34:22 AM
Can we have more Berman doing baseball??? Oh and will you hire Bob Costas to work with him?

Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back, Back

czmilosz: Tim McCarver is the Billy Packer of baseball.

You mean Tim "They aren't called cleats, they are called SPIKES!" McCarver? And isn't Billy "with the kiss!" Packer the one who gets all wet any time someone makes a bank shot?

typingwithonehand: And isn't Billy "with the kiss!" Packer the one who gets all wet any time someone makes a bank shot?

I think that's Bill Raftery or how ever the hell you spell it.

Bill Packer is a moron(pops)

2006-07-25 11:44:06 AM
First we lose Peter Gammons to sudden illness and now they fire Harold? They should just proclaim Joe Morgan supreme chancellor already and disband the senate.

/mark another one down for "hates Joe Morgan more than life itself"
//would rather listen to Tim McCarver and Billy Packer at the same time

2006-07-25 11:56:25 AM
czmilosz: I think that's Bill Raftery

That's right, I always get those yahoos mixed up.

You're right about Packer though, and that article just about sums up his stupidity. Just admit you were wrong you dumbass. If it was up to Packer, the tournament would only consist of the same 12 teams every year, regardless of their record. "historical makeup" my ass.

Locke3k: proclaim Joe Morgan supreme chancellor already

I thought that was Chris Berman.

Anything that results in more airtime for that braindead idiot Steve Phillips is a crime against humanity.

HR was nice, but as somebody who works for ESPN says on his radio show. "What piece of interesting information has he ever said?"

I couldnt think of one.

2006-07-25 12:34:34 PM
on of the Best baseball play by play guys you probably have never heard of is Boog Sciambi

2006-07-25 12:51:33 PM
So that leaves Kruk as the smart one? BBTN is in trouble.

Pleeeeease fire Joe Moran.

2006-07-25 01:17:07 PM
i liked Reynolds though..
i think most people did.

can't wait to find out the reasonw why.

2006-07-25 01:26:22 PM
You're not with me, Harold.

/sorry, had to be said

What a bunch of bull. Harold was one of the best guys on BBTN, and the only one who at some point didn't start to annoy me.

2006-07-25 01:35:21 PM
Maybe they found him doing some racy stuff in an old Tom Emanski video...

2006-07-25 01:38:23 PM
I'm pretty sure they got rid of him so they had more air time for Barry Bonds shows, Championship darts, and Contender.

This is a FOX programming-like gaffe.

2006-07-25 01:41:30 PM
they should get rid of that stupid play by play shiat where they get on the fake baseball diamond/football field and show us how the play works next.
nobody gives a fark!
you guys look like dipshiats when you're doing it too!
stop it!

2006-07-25 01:42:10 PM
I'm guessing he did something naughty, like hit on a white woman.

2006-07-25 01:45:25 PM
I liked the guy...LIKED. Seems he was putting a little more Stuart Scott in his delivery this year. DIDN'T like that one bit.

2006-07-25 01:49:20 PM
I used to see him at the Little League World Series every year and he was, by far, the most personable and friendliest person they had. Not only was he good on TV, he was great with staff, fans and most importantly with the kids. There has to be something major behind this, otherwise it's one of the worst decisions in the history of ESPN.

2006-07-25 01:52:54 PM
Wow, I never have had this kind of hatred for Joe Morgan. He at least knows his stuff. Could be seen as condescending toward those who don't know the sport, but it beats out being famous for stupid farking catch phrases.
And I'd much rather have someone that a) can speak somewhat correctly (hey, I don't needs to, because I'm not on the tele box) and b) knows how to actually play baseball, as opposed to some tool like Chris Berman, Stu Scott, Eric Karros, or these other guys.

That said, it SUCKS that Harold Reynolds is gone. He's a classy guy and IMHO was great on Baseball Tonight (not quite as great as an announcer for games...). And I honestly have to give him a bit of thanks. He's from the area, and has been helpful to the local college baseball team (which won the national title this year).

Bubb Rubb's clothes were much less fly.

2006-07-25 01:56:26 PM
Wow, that sucks. I liked Harold. Then again, I like Joe Morgan and Gary Thorne as well.

2006-07-25 01:57:36 PM
HR was the best guy ESPN had on Baseball Tonight. God (Flying Speghetti Monster?) help us if we have to listen to Tino Martinez stumble over another explination.

/wishes Morgan would DIAF
//McCarver needs to be the source of that fire
///three slashies and I'm out

2006-07-25 02:00:53 PM
I don't doubt that Joe Morgan is one of the most knowledgable baseball men around. His seeming assumption that he's explaining the game to beings who have recently rocketed in from Pluto annoys the living hell out of me.

I'd much rather have someone that ... knows how to actually play baseball, as opposed to some tool like Chris Berman, Stu Scott, Eric Karros, or these other guys.

Um, Eric Karros played in the majors just a little bit (pops).

Now, if you were making a joke because he hit .268 lifetime, then that's funny. Although most of his career was spent in pitcher friendly Dodger Stadium.

As for "those other guys," Bowa and Kruk had long major league careers as well.

KiwDaWabbit

I read on another forum that the rumor is that he is beign sued by Bonnie Bernstein for sexual harassment and she is accusing him of "date rape"

So... good guess by you.

2006-07-25 02:08:56 PM
No Harold Reynolds or Peter Gammons... all those endless reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond are starting to look good.

2006-07-25 02:10:10 PM
Harold Reynolds was the only baseball pundit on ESPN that I didn't want to stab in the face.

Harold Reynolds made me want to puncture my eardrums. Can't believe they paired him up with Berman on the Home Run Derby.

This guy was AWFUL. BBTN is a polished show -- Kruk, Phillips, Kurkjian, Gammons....they all have a short, concise thing to say. Harold Reynolds was the guy who sounded like he was completely talking out of his ass, not having ANY direction in what he was saying. He sounded ven worse at The Home Run Derby.

Some people might not like what the others have to say, but gawd, Reynolds contributed NOTHING to BBTN....other than a nasal, whiny pitch to his voice.

Seriously? Bernstein wasn't on the last Sunday night telecast. Maybe there's credence to that.

OhTeddyWhy
Joe Morgan invented the power-hitting second baseman

The ghost of Rogers Hornsby would like a word with you...

2006-07-25 02:17:48 PM
The suck:

Joe Morgan
Joe Buck
Tim McCarver

One good thing ESPN has, and I don't know what he's doing for them right now, is Fred Hicks. I'm pretty much a Yankee hater, but Fred used to do the post-game for the Yankees on YES and would do a great job. I think he was with CNN before that. Hopefully they'll move him into that role.

2006-07-25 02:20:29 PM
Joe Morgan is the greatest second baseman ever. Just ask him.

2006-07-25 02:25:49 PM
SeekerRex-

Boog did Marlins baseball for a few years down here. He is deeply missed as his replacement Dave Van Horn absolutely stinks.

Reynolds seemed like a nice guy. Hope his being fired is not an inside politics issue.

2006-07-25 02:26:07 PM
that really sucks... i liked him on baseball tonight. oh well, at least john kruk can continue to entertain me.

:/

2006-07-25 02:32:21 PM
I loved Harold Reynolds and it sucks that he's been fired. I was watching Baseball Tonight toward the end of last week and remember Kruk saying something about being chubby. If I remember correctly, I think Reynolds sort of jokingly inferred that it was the non-weight kind of chubby. I was cracking up, but maybe that's what got him in trouble with ESPN.

2006-07-25 02:33:46 PM
Baseball isn't baseball without Hawk and DJ calling it.

Thats just what I read on another forum from someone who works at ESPN. But like I said on that forum too... Why Bonnie Bernstein? If your gonna blow a job like ESPN, why not go after Suzy Kolber or Colleen Dominguez?

I wish they would send Kruk and Morgan packing with him.

Only a moron like Kruk would tell the Braves that they need to give up on the season and trade John Smoltz for prospects when Atlanta is only 4 1/2 games out of the wild card with 60+ games still to go. And Joe Morgan can't go one game without talking about the "greatness of Barry Bonds", even when the game in progress has absolutely nothing to do with him.

/ESPN blows

There has to be something major behind this, otherwise it's one of the worst decisions in the history of ESPN.

Seconded. If he did anything short of molesting an entire schoolbus full of kids, then this is a terrible move. ESPN is going the way of MTV...that is, irrelevant.

Kruk's just trying to give the Phillies a chance.
