Don't analyze the flatulence!

Farts are funny. Especially when women do them.

End of story.

The point is that so many movies took a gag that first hit the screens in "Blazing Saddles"

I'll see your "Blazing Saddles" (1974) and raise you one "American Graffiti" (1973).

Flatulence jokes were really funny....like when I was 12.

Hollywood overuses everything these days.

Have you noticed that all those movies coming out with Will Ferrell, Wilson bros, Vince Vaughn and an assortment of their loser friends are all the same? And terribly unfunny at that.

I agree with the writer's opinion on film schools. They focus on great shots, lighting, editing, sound work, angles, and the like. They really don't try and teach their students how to, you know, write.

I believe it was George Clooney who said something along the lines of, "You can make a shiatty movie with a good script, but you can't make a good movie with a shiatty script."

I find your premise to be poor and your writing less good.

My favorite gag, which I haven't seen in a film (yet), is to fart when I'm alone in an express elevator. I get out, several people get in, and they're stuck with it for 32 floors.

If that happened to you in the 1500 Market building in Philly... it was me.

Has this guy seen everymovie, there has to be thousands of fart jokes. 100???

On the topic though a fart is a great way to entice the audience to laugh especailly when your movie sucks, case and point Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Harold and Kumar.

Is this guy ripping on whining about a particular fart joke, or the non-specific fart joke in general? Because if it's a particular gag joke that he's complaining about; which one is it?

/edited to show non-intended puns as I was going to write them, then decided against because they were puns, but decided they were funny anyways

Ill give you ferrel but ill die the day i say Vince Vaughn is not a MASTER of funny.

Wedding Crashers and the Breakup were good funny brainless movies. Which is what a comedy is supposed to be.

And his brief appearance in Black Balls is one of the greatest film moments in history.

TFA confuses "one single fart joke told over and over" with "a lot of movies have fart gags". The former would not be funny. The latter is always funny.

I still think Family Guy took the cake for fart jokes with the "Michael Moore farting contest". That one had me cracking up for a long time.

It all depends on the delivery of the joke... the south park "terrance and phillip" scenes are mediocre at best, but some are still clever enough to be hilarious.

Blazing Saddles being an exception to the rule.

Not to get silly, but at least the fart joke in Blazing Saddles had a point, making fun of old Westerns and our romanticized notions, which ignore what sitting around eating a can of baked beans will do.

And it was just really funny.

jasonb2008: Has this guy seen everymovie, there has to be thousands of fart jokes. 100???

Movies with fart jokes - not fart jokes overall. Headline is wrong. It's not "6 or more times per year" its "in 6 or more movies per year".

Of course, sometimes a fart joke can be well done. It was well-timed and foreshadowed in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Meanwhile, it was dull and repetative in Scary Movie.

Trail of Dead: TFA confuses "one single fart joke told over and over" with "a lot of movies have fart gags". The former would not be funny. The latter is always funny.

That's what I was wondering; he talks about a specific fart gag but, doesn't say what it is - seems like he's just whining about all scatological humor...

Oh, and the extras in the Harold and Kumar DVD went into great detail about how much effort they supposedly made trying to get just the right sound for the two-chicks in the can scene. The sound guy coming up with all sorts of microphone in the toilet variations. I couldn't tell if it was true or not - probably an exaggeration.

I love the author's comments about the "Golden Age of Movies." When exactly was this "Golden Age"? Sure, some phenomenal movies came out in the 30s, 40, 50, 60s, 70s... but they have in the 80s, 90s, and present day as well. It's so easy to look back on old movies, music or any other media and assume all media was better then. Problem is, you don't remember the garbage that came out as well, and there was more garbage than there were classics. We remember how good the Godfather was but tend to try to forget all of the Beach Blanket Bingo and Gidget movies.

Well I hate you SOB's. I'm working on a short film that's taking the fart joke to new levels.

Salt Meadow Bay Trailer
