Glenn Greenwald should be proud - his arguments can't be countered so his character is attacked.

/it was pretty funny, though.

It was, at that.

And greenlighted, at that.

I expect a pretty resounding "Who?" from Farkistan.

Well I LOL'd.

2006-07-24 05:05:45 PM
Is he really like that? I've only read a few of his blog posts and he seems like a fairly level headed guy.

2006-07-24 05:05:52 PM
I can do 3 sock puppets at the same time. The middle one doesn't really move though and after a little while kinda bends over.

2006-07-24 05:06:14 PM
That was almost as funny as George W. Bush's blog.

I guess that is why he defended his arguments using a number of aliases.

"For your information, Mr. Greenwald has written a New York Times bestselling book on executive authority, broken a story on his blog about wiretapping that led to front-page stories on most major newspapers in the country, and Russ Feingold read from my(his) blog..."

2006-07-24 05:08:27 PM
Regardless of Greenwald's points, The situation is still funny. Glenn showed up using multiple aliases to defend himself in blogs with posts that read almost identical to each other. Then, when IP logs enter the fray, his denials look even more comical.

Whether or not you like Greenwald, the childish behaviour contrasts so well with his accomplishments.

I see. That is hilarious.

As yet nobody attacking him has posted a rebuttal of his original points highlighting the eliminationist, violent and fascistic rhetoric of the most popular right wing blogs.

They can sure call him names and point at a proxy server as proof he's posting under multiple names, but argue back? Not one word.

/that would take brains
//mmmm brains

Whatever his point is...is beside the point. The fact that he's masquerading as someone else in order to bolster defense for whatever-his-point-is places him beneath contempt.

sirfith beat me to the link .

Disclaimer: I have never read that blog before today, so can't comment about the veracity. Also, I had no idea who Greenwald was until reading this. After reading it, I still don't really care much. Just thought it was bloggers being their typical selves, petty and childish.

Seriously? Somewhere out there there's a Fark moderator that beats off on laminated photos of Sean Hannity.

Stupid? Yes. Does it retract anything from the validity of his arguments? Nope.

If I wanted link after link to shrieking wingnut hateblogs I'd go to newsmax.

Does anyone have mirrors of the pictures? The link given above isn't complete without the proof that those pictures supposedly had.

Greenwald lives with other people. Those people have poor judgement. Right-wing lunatics are nutballs. This is the stupident greenlight I've ever seen on Fark.

I guess that is why he defended his arguments using a number of aliases.

Because each and every Internets user has their very own special IP address that nobody else in the whole wide world can use. Ayup.

At home, I share an IP address with my roommate. At work, I share it with a couple hundred other employees. If I go to a library or use someone's free wifi, I'm sharing an IP with who-knows-how-many people. Yet, according to the "I Don't Care About Glenn Greenwald- YARR 'TIS THE GREAT WHITE WHALE I SEE" Patterico School of Logic, we're apparently all the same person.

But, hey - anything to divert the topic away from Glenn stating the obvious, eh?

2006-07-24 05:27:24 PM
More seriously, if "serious" can possibly apply to accusations of sock puppetry in the absence of real arguments, here's Greenwald's response:

"Not frequently, I leave comments at blogs which criticize or respond to something I have written. I always, in every single instance, use my own name when doing so. I have never left a single comment at any other blog using any name other than my own, at least not since I began blogging. IP addresses signify the Internet account one uses, not any one individual. Those in the same household have the same IP address. In response to the personal attacks that have been oozing forth these last couple of weeks, others have left comments responding to them and correcting the factual inaccuracies, as have I. In each case when I did, I have used my own name."

Greenwald's implication is that his boyfriend, who lives in Brazil and who Greenwald visits there, was responsible for leaving these comments.

And that's pretty much the end of the story, despite various attempts to keep it going with twenty-page-long rants by the "Ace of Spades," and pictures of sock puppets.

I don't know who this Glenn guy is, but I did find the sock puppets very amusing.

/easily amused

I did see a case where someone thought it would be good to to NAT overload on a PIX 525 for 16,000 users using a single external IP address.

It didn't go too well, as you might imagine, but it could happen.

His arguments that all right-wingers are kooks involved in a net-wide conspiracy to bring him down, because gosh-darned it, Senators read him!!

My friend and I had our phones tapped for a little while. it was the weirdest thing. I used to be a little punk rawker who was against the government and I would come up with these crackpot theories on how to dismantle and destroy all of society leaving only oregon, which would be owned by me, to start a new world of hunter gatherers just like in the days of old. I would talk to my friend about how I would by oregon, develope nuclear weapons under ground and sell them to countries who hate us. Then plan a day of attack for all the countries to bomb the shiat out of the US, which would in turn make the US bomb the shiat out of them, and then the rest of the world would join in and they would destroy themselves. Of course I would deny having any part in it and remain nuetral and be safe till the rest of the world killed themselves. This led them to actually tap our phones. So they spent thousands of dollars listening to a couple of 15 year old stoners talk about stupid shiat like that. I found it funny

There's a Glenn Greenwald saga?

What the hell is a Glenn Greenwald and why should I care?

Speaking for 75% of all conservative bloggers, pelase allow me to say: We're sorry some people on our team beat this issue to death.

To recap: A guy named Glen Greenwald, a liberal moonbat blogger, engaged in a comments-war with some conservative bloggers. Eventually some others came to Greenwald's defence.

After using IP scanning, it was confirmed that these other commentators were actually Greenwald himself, pretending to be other people.

And the all the conservative bloggers, having blogged about all other problems, beat that dead horse till nothing was left but a greasy stain.

2006-07-24 05:39:27 PM

And here's the real issue that libertarian attorney Glenn Greenwald has been harping on. What is it about his advocacy for your Constitutional rights that makes conservative cultists so angry?

Sen. Arlen Specter's...proposed FISA legislation...renders legal the President's lawbreaking and cedes to the President the right to eavesdrop on Americans with no judicial oversight.

The bill would also all but kill pending litigation challenging the legality of the President's eavesdropping conduct, and endorse a theory of presidential power so extreme that even the President's own Attorney General rejects it.

Despite all of this, Specter claims, apparently with a straight face, that "negotiations with administration officials and the president himself were fierce" and that the bill is "a preeminently fair compromise."

If you give a sh*t about your privacy or rights, contact your Senator and tell them to vote against Specter's sellout.

I wish these conservatives would get this frothy when the Pentagon plants favorable stories in local news broadcasts, or when the administration secretly pays journalists to write favorable editorials, or when the administration leaks classified information for purely political purposes, or when press passes are issued to neocon male prostitutes with no press credentials.

Hell, I'd settle for an honest-to-god rebuttal of anything this Greenwald says, but instead we get this organized ad hominem attack against a nobody liberal blogger from Brazil.

Way to have your priorities in order, and prove every negative stereotype about blogging accurate, guys.

No. Rolleyes. Big enough.

/go ahead, check my IP, you humorless fascists

2006-07-24 05:40:47 PM
While it was slightly funny, did it actually refute any of his arguements?

Nope.

/hypocrisy on

The ad hominem attack is the last refuge of the idiot.

/hypocrisy off

Yeah, see, no. You're still a fool even if you think it's a non-issue.

carmody: The fact that he's masquerading as someone else in order to bolster defense for whatever-his-point-is places him beneath contempt.

And then instantly renders all of his points moot. poof.

"After using IP scanning, it was confirmed that these other commentators were actually Greenwald himself, pretending to be other people."

That would not be an correct statement.

All you can say is that the posts originated from the same IP address. You have no knowledge of who actually posted the comments. Unless Big Brother really is monitoring our every move already.
