What a joke!
SF Police department LOVES FARK I bet.

bug
2002-06-25 12:33:28 PM
i bet the NFL is behind this somehow

2002-06-25 12:33:58 PM
I bet they busted them for not serving donuts with the coffee, thats a crime in my book.

2002-06-25 12:34:05 PM
coffee = Close proximity to Donuts

2002-06-25 12:36:11 PM
Pigs. Typical....

2002-06-25 12:36:24 PM
Great use of the tag. This one really deserves it.

They weren't even charging for the coffee. Talk about the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit.

2002-06-25 12:37:37 PM
If the bar has the right permits, do you get carded you when you order your coffee?

2002-06-25 12:38:59 PM
Well maybe if the proprietors of these establishments had stolen someone's credit cards the Cops wouldn't have bothered with them.

2002-06-25 12:39:10 PM
...she found "40-50 patrons inside the bar watching television and consuming nonalcoholic beverages."

I can't even believe such atrocious behavior. I am genuinely appalled that people would think it was okay to watch television and consume nonalcoholic beverages. For shame!

2002-06-25 12:39:37 PM
On a serious note: That story is sad. Those people were just having fun together. What about a sense of community? Ridiculous that the cops thing they are serving in this instance. People drinking free coffee watching sports ins't a distrubance now is it? WTF?

2002-06-25 12:40:13 PM
I actually think it's the MLB people, since they are usually targeted as the most boring sport around by soccer fans.

2002-06-25 12:40:20 PM
Another example of the stupidity that's rampant throughout San Francisco. If they had a bunch of drunks in the place the police most likely would've kept going.

Here in Sunnyvale, a couple of bars were open early for World Cup matches and they had no problems. Then again, the Sunnyvale police aren't a bunch of lazy jackasses like the SF police are.

Whenever I hear "Cop" and "San Francisco" I always think of "Dirty Harry."

I wonder what Harry would have to say about this?

SF Police are terrorists.

OR

NBA is just worried about their ratings future.

OR

I need some more coffee.

2002-06-25 12:43:13 PM
Oh Fark!!! It's one time, hide the coffee!!!!!!

2002-06-25 12:43:40 PM
I am quite sure that all of this is tied to the War On Terrorism. Those soccer fans may be enemy combatants, violating the tenets of the Patriot Act. After all, they weren't cheering for any American teams; therefore, they must be subversives out to infiltrate our way of life and destroy the very fabric of our country.

The SFPD are just protecting us from terrorism...

2002-06-25 12:43:49 PM
I guess it's just easier to bust people for serving coffee and being open at the wrong time than to catch a thief. Lazy farkers.

2002-06-25 12:44:01 PM
"Fark the Police, fark the police, fark em"
They are like that in my town too. They use to hide behind the park near my house and wait for about 5 cars to get to my house on tuesday nights (our drinking night) than come knocking with some lame ass "We got a noise complaint" excuse. It was always funny when some parinoid farker ran out the back door and they tried to catch them though.

2002-06-25 12:44:28 PM
Cops are such magnificent bastards. Never there when you need em. I remember getting jumped one night , having to go to the hospital to get stiches. I called the cops and they meet me at the hospital only to accuse me of being in a gang, being the perpitrator and all sorts of nonsence. I got to curse at the cop as I was pulled into the er. only good thing about the whole night. My mom got thier badge #'s but we were never able to file a complaint. The cop taking complaints was on vacation. Oh the irony.

2002-06-25 12:44:29 PM
You smell that? *sniffs* smells like bacon

2002-06-25 12:44:39 PM

Coffee and TV? Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children!

Sounds as bad as NYC, where the shut down bars for ilegal dancing!

2002-06-25 12:47:04 PM
Buzzwreckers. You'd think they'd be busier harassing prostitutes and beating up poor people at that time of night. I'll betcha one of the cops lost alot of money betting on the World Cup and decided nobody should watch it anymore.

2002-06-25 12:47:19 PM
As a local to that area...I'm just south a few miles and go to The City regularly..I find this incredibly rediculous as (reported on the 10 O' Clock news)a year or so ago they *stopped* busting 'massage' parlors. They reasoned that that only forced the hookers onto the streets. I agree with that...but... heaven forbid the hookers try to get a cup of coffee and watch a soccer game with friends!!!!

2002-06-25 12:47:46 PM
I was pulled over last month for having my stereo too loud in my Camaro..... 4 more squad cars and 1 Jeep pulled up behind me in the parking lot. They didn't even ticket me!!

2002-06-25 12:48:10 PM

And yet there wasn't a single cop to be seen on friday night when some punk kids knifed the tire on my bike. The weekend before that they just knocked it over. So I have to pay for a garrage now.

Every weekend these kids run around breaking car windows and knifing tires. Wish I'd known about it before I bought a place in a "nice" neighborhood.

2002-06-25 12:48:17 PM
And the question remains coppers, where the f*ck is my bike?

2002-06-25 12:48:24 PM
And my wife tells me that I should be more respectful of the police....

BOLLOCKS!

Why Cops Hate Soccer

2002-06-25 12:49:13 PM
how to replace Cops, just let us good folk, shoot them bad folk....just like in "Boondock Saints"

2002-06-25 12:50:04 PM
When I was a kid I wanted to be cop. I would hate myself.

2002-06-25 12:51:19 PM
SFPD! Soccer fans don't know it's not bacon!

2002-06-25 12:53:55 PM
Abbynormal Buy your self an SKS rifle and leave the bike on the street.Find a near by roof and wait. You could put a few rounds into one of the punks who come around on a regular basis and more than likely it wont happen again, ever.

That's what you get for being an evil, flithy rich Amerikkkan gentrifier! Fight the power!

2002-06-25 12:54:04 PM
The ideals that made this country great have been replaced by sheltered obedience, bureaucracy, and incompetence. If the bar wants to stay open late and serve free copy to watch the AMERICAN team make history, who is the nazi pig that's gonna shut 'em down? You know damn well who. Seriously - cops pushing people around, ignoring the real crimes in favor of the easy ones - we are slowly moving towards a police state and a true bureaucratic nightmare.

Applied Logic

Given:

A group of police officers in San Francisco shut down a friendly party, at which no alcohol was sold and during which free coffee was provided by the proprietor. They shut it down citing an obscure and relatively unknown ordinance, after having ignored the 'violation' in the past, not even bothering to mention that the permit was even required until the night they issued the citation and kicked everyone out.

Therefore, one can deduce:

Every last member of the law enforcement profession is a horrible, twisted, evil un-human, from the Chief of Police to the guy who changes the typewriter ribbons. An instantaneous and permanent infusion of pure evil and malice is given along with the badge, and police forces exist only to harass and extort. No lives were ever saved by a police officer, no crimes prevented, no farking kittens rescued from farking trees. And every bad experience I've ever had with the police had absolutely nothing to do with any activities I may have engaged in at the time, e.g. drug use, drunk driving, becoming an absolute raving arrogant prick on sight of a police officer, etc.

Everything I know about logic, I learned on Fark.

AbbyNormal:

I learned a long time ago that there is no such thing as a "Nice" neighborhood. I had my previous apartment broken into through the back window. Now I have a second floor apartment with a private entrance. I pay for a Garage (for my motorcycles) and a car-port for my SUV.

2002-06-25 12:55:57 PM
Typical. Cities like SF and Santa Monica... So forward thinking, so freedom-loving... in the '60's. Fast-forward to the 21'st century, the hippies have taken over and locked everything down. Santa Monica requires a police permit for street performers and anyone wanting to hand out literature. Jamie Zawinski had quite a hastle getting permits for his DNA Lounge in SF, a club he opened partly in protest to the fact that yuppies had moved into the fashionable SOMA district and then forced out the clubs and artists that had made SOMA fashionable in the first place.

2002-06-25 12:57:48 PM
And the world continues to suck more and more.

2002-06-25 12:59:07 PM
Too busy to arrest a credit card theif handed to them by the victim (earlier fark link) but enough time to do this? What a bunch of tools

2002-06-25 12:59:29 PM
Where's an accountant with a stun gun and a fishing net when you need one?

2002-06-25 12:59:35 PM
Ben_r: uh...ya, that's pretty much it.

2002-06-25 12:59:53 PM
It's sad when a badge and gun are needed to replace testicles and a penis. This is too often true with cops.

2002-06-25 01:01:07 PM

MX_rider: I used to live in a "bad" neighborhood and shiat like this didn't happen. And by bad I mean drug dealers, junkies shooting up in your doorway and homeless guys ranting on the street corners. Never had a problem, and the local drug dealers would watch the bikes for me if I tossed them some beer every once in a while.

I had a Triumph and a Ducati parked on the street and in 3 years I had each one knocked over once. I've had more dammage in a week here!

2002-06-25 01:01:36 PM
Soccer fans should be rounded up and placed in work camps. Then after a hard days work herded into those nice showers.

2002-06-25 01:01:36 PM
That is true, you can never find a cop when you need one, but when you're about to spark a dooobie, they magically appear.

2002-06-25 01:03:56 PM
AbbyNormal: Invest in an assault rifle and make a difference!

2002-06-25 01:04:58 PM
without denying that there are some good cops...

I know 4 kids I went to H.S. with who all became cops. In school they were jerks who bullied kids around. By the time of our 10 yr reunion 2 of them had already killed people. one was eventully fired because of it. Jerks are attracted to the job because it give them power over others.
