a better method of attracting younger buyers would be to actually build their good concept ideas, and leave the minivans (i.e. jeep liberty) on the drawing board.

This is why I laugh at marketing reps in their 20s, they THINK they're creative and can come up with something so creative and groundbreaking, that the world will beat a path to their door. Yeah, keep right on thinking that.. maybe someday you'll get good at it.

Why thier marketing strategy will fail:

You do of course know that your vehicle was built in Mexico with left-over spare parts from the 70s, right? Enjoy your Gremlin redux. Catch any fish?

I think 'bobblehead' describes SUV drivers in general.

Everytime I see one of those Caldillac or Benz SUVs, I see a stupid, arrogant bastard hastening the end with their gas-guzzling monstrosities.

There needs to be a SPECIAL tax on those vehicles, say, $20,000/yr. Hell, the goddam SUITS that drive them on their way in to work to lay off someone can afford it.

I think 'bobblehead' describes SUV drivers in general.

There's nothing like a mouth-breathing, tailgating, two-foot-driving SUV owner on the freeway.

The only thing worse is a group of them. Constantly tapping their brakes.

Seriously, next time you're behind one of these people, take a count of how many times their brake lights go up. Usually, you'll notice they're constantly braking even when there's no change in speed in the general flow of traffic.

It's bizarre, but it proves the point that people who buy SUVs hate driving. It makes them twitchy and uncomfortable. (and from the mush suspensions, it's apparent that they prefer to be as disconnected from the experience as possible)

gerbopel: Best. Jeep commercial. Ever.

Agreed. I'm going to buy one now!

Actually, I already own one. 96' Cherokee Sport 2D 5-speed manual and I love it. I'll have to get more big boobed girls into my drivers seat though...

This Jeep Compass looks exactly like every other crossover SUV on the market. What never ceases to amaze me about these car companies is that without fail, they get a good thing going and then they intentionally ruin it. Did it occur to them that maybe people like the boxiness of the Jeep brand - that it appeals to an iconoclastic or romantic image people have of themselves? The same thing happened to Subaru - their Forrester cars were a bit boxy but they appealed to the earthy crunchy set. Now they're all slick and tricked out. I'd even wager that the same thing happened to Mercedes - people realy liked the regal boxiness of the whole lineup. The new SLK500 looks like a flying saucer out of a buck rogers movie. (sighs)

Very true Mr.Detour,

Why the fark can't the new 07 Wrangler get for than 14 MPG in the city?

I'm shopping for a new car and if doesn't get in the mid to upper 20's in the city, no sale.

What's really bizarre is you trying to equate brake riding with SUVs. As if no else does that and it never happened before the SUV came around. Is this your entry for the lamest bash attempt ever award?

And, you know, the thing about a bobblehead... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.

2006-07-23 11:20:09 AM
Whenever I see a bobblehead, I want to make humanity suffer in some terrible way. I hate them. Lord, I hate them so.

Like all people in the demographic they're out to get, I rather like the Wrangler. That's the only one people my age will buy, and if they'd just save their money and do some little upgrades to it now and then, they'd be fine. No need for hideously annoying ads.

/Doesn't think Jeep knows what it's doing

Amazing. Fark.com can turn any kind of brand discussion into a flame war.

Apple? FARK YOU MAC USERS! PC'S RULESZZ!
Jeep? FARK YOU SUV DRIVERS! MY PRIUS GETS 439 MILES PER GALLONZ!!!

Ugh.

If you don't like it, don't buy it, and shut the hell up.

2006-07-23 12:37:17 PM
Won't sell because of gas prices? It gets 25/30mpg 4x4 with a manual transmission. 23/26 with a CVT.

I'm gonna get a wrangler as soon as I can afford it and ditch my Kia.

2006-07-23 02:38:03 PM
I love the new Wrangler that's coming out sometime this year. It looks like that I might be getting it, but depending on the gas prices in the next few years, I might be going the way of the Rabbit.
