Caution: Retarded transcriber creating web pages.

I'd hit it. - Yeah, me too.... with that police car.

Mom needs to pay more attention... If he has the mentality of a three year old, why would you let him wander around? She'd be jailed if he were actually three... what's the difference?

As for the asshats with the sign, well, that rope could be put to more productive uses, and would probably make the neighborhood a lot happier.

I can't warn drivers of the chance of a retard running across the street without warning and the whole world gets involved? What is the world coming to?

Funny, if I recall correctly, "retard" is just a euphemism for stupid. How strange of people to get fired up over what was a euphemism in the first place.

From TFA:

Tom Brownlee, Advocate for those with Disabilities: "When I was growing up, people always used that word in front of me and called me retarded."

Someone who knows how hurtful that word can be is Tom Brownlee, who today is an advocate for those with disabilities.

Tom Brownlee, Advocate for those with Disabilities
: "I hate that word, it was very offensive and I just want them to see that people with disabilities deserve the respect that they are entitled to."

Just reading that makes me want to put a foam helmet on and run out into traffic with my pants down.

Just in case no one missed it, there is a spare ' in their sign. Making "Retard's" possessive.

I'm starting to understand why the terrorists hate us so much.

Why, because it looks like the dog is licking the woman's snatch?

Which never would have happened if the gays hadn't started getting married.

Retards are just like the rest of us.

Used to live in a student dorm area where they had a assisted living housing for people like that just across me (literally about 50 feet from my room). So they were a pretty usual sight there but I never saw anyone treating them with disrespect.

Proud of having lived in a place like that. Just because someone has a mental handicap it doesn't mean you have to put them down. Behaviour still hurts their feelings. And their feelings should be as much valued as mine.

"retard" is just a euphemism for stupid

No, it's a shortened form of "mentally retarded."

"Stupid" is an insult; "mentally retarded" is not.

My wife (an English professor) and I had a conversation about the apostrophe this morning. There actually isn't anything wrong with it in that they are referring to a singular "retard" and one that "is in the area." It is a contraction of the phrase "retard is," not the possessive. It's not optimal and I asserted that it should either be written out or have the "is" dropped altogether, but it isn't technically incorrect.

Oh a new filter.

Hahaha.

What? That filter has been around for years.

Anyways, if that kid really was throwing rocks at their daughter, and the police did absolutely nothing (even to the parents of the kid), then I think a sign is perfectly understandable. What else are you going to do, throw rocks back? Well, that dosn't sound like a bad idea either, except the jail part.

2006-07-22 06:55:37 PM
Could the use of the "'" here be correct?

I mean, the sign says, in essence, "Retard is in area." They are referring to one retard, as opposed to multiple retards in the area. I mean, if there were more then one retard, then yes, no "'" necessary, but here, where the one retard in question is the subject of the sign, the fact that the sign reads, again, for clarity, "Caution, Retard's in area" may in fact be more proper.

they should have put up a better sign, one with lights and neon writing, that way more people would have noticed and read the sign. more people would have been aware there was a retard in the area.

A cardboard sign hanging in a tree, directed at a boy with developmental disabilities, and the boy's mother, isn't happy.

A cardboard sign has emotions?

Neighbor: "I've been harassed for six months, my daughter has been assaulted."

Sam Penrod, Eyewitness News "By who?"

Neighbor: "The young boy, we got pictures and everything and they would not press charges because he is handicapped."

The neighbor claims Colton threw a rock at his young daughter. Other neighbors told us they have frequently found Colton wandering onto their property.

So... the guy's daughter is being assualted by this kid, and the police refuse to do anything, so the guy makes a desperate (albeit misguided) attempt to draw attention to his situation... and everyone sides with that family of the kid that is throwing rocks because they don't want the kid to feel bad.

Truly a pathetic society we are indeed.

I guess the sign just wasn't official looking enough, or put up by the state.

How hard can it be to kill a 'tard and make it look like an accident? Sheesh. ;-)

I never got the debate over the word "retard".

re·tard1 Audio pronunciation of "retard" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-tärd)
v. re·tard·ed, re·tard·ing, re·tards
v. tr.

To cause to move or proceed slowly; delay or impede.

Then they started using "slow". Then "Mentally Challenged." Now it's "developmentally delayed." Pick one and stick to it. Personally, I like "Pro-choice" the best.

My favorite part of the article/interview...

Sam Penrod, Eyewitness News: "Why did you put that sign up?

Neighbor: "I've been harassed for six months, my daughter has been assaulted."

Sam Penrod, Eyewitness News: "By who?"

Who the fark do you think? Like the neighbor is going to say, "Actually, it was some black guy but we just love picking on retards."

Great interviewing skills dude.

it could be a contraction for "retard is in area"

Maybe the retard's stupid mother will start paying attention to what he's doing now. The father of the daughter whom the retarded kid assaulted tried to do the right thing, but the PC world forced him to use a less tactful method. Too bad, but the kid is a retarded and he's a danger to others. Lock his ass up in a mental home or something.

2006-07-22 07:07:24 PM
Y'know, I'm handicapped myself, and I just don't give a shiat about the use of "retard". But then, I don't care if someone says "blind" or "Deaf" either. This 'visually incapacitated' or some shiat.

Dead Milkmen lyrics
" Takin' Retards To The Zoo "

It's a boring day - I've got nothing to do
Except to get a load of retards and drive 'em to the zoo

Oh oh oh takin' retards to the zoo [x2]

Load 'em on a bus just for laughs
Down a winding road stepping on the gas
Down a winding road just daydreaming
Down a winding road with the retards screaming

Oh oh oh takin' retards to the zoo [x2]

One of them blowing a big spit bubble
Slam on the brakes at the first sign of trouble
Head on collision bodies everywhere
Head on collision retards beware

Oh oh oh takin' retards to the zoo [x2]

I think the best part, which has been largely overlooked, is that the sign has an incorrect apostrophe here. "retard's". That moran needs to get a brain.

We should adjust submitter's headline to reflect this error.

2006-07-22 07:08:59 PM
The owners of the retard should put their own sign in the window about their developmentally challenged neighbor.

/just kidding about the owner part.

2006-07-22 07:09:09 PM
Ok... the sign is tatseless, but if some kid threw a rock at one of my daughters...

I think for the boy's own saftey, his mother should try to keep him a little closer to home.
